Chapter 11: CHAPTER 11
Victor POV
I stood close to the ceiling-ground glass window, admiring the view. My City. I thought to myself. Over the past 5 years, I have gradually built an underground empire and achieved the status of 'Kingpin.' I looked down from our skyscraper tower. All the other buildings looked like ants gathered in one space in comparison to mine.
A smug look crept up my face as a wave of accomplishment washed over me. I had achieved even more than my late father ever dreamt of. I stylishly admired my reflection on the window. Suddenly, I heard a gentle tap on the door.
Knock!
I snapped back from my daze quickly. "Enter," I replied in a stern voice. The huge doors revealed a young lady in her early twenties with a light blue long-sleeve shirt and gray office skirt that accentuated her figure. I narrowed my eyes and recognized my secretary, Janice.
"Mr. Langston, you have two visitors here to see you." She replied in a respectable tone. I had a puzzled look on my face as I tried to remember any scheduled meetings for the day.
"They aren't on the list for today, but one of them has a tattoo on his left eye." Janice, reading my facial expression, guessed my thoughts.
"Dom," I mumbled to myself. I let out a sigh after recognizing the visitor. We usually held our meetings at the bar, except for some emergencies. I regained my composure and glanced at Janice.
"Send them in." I gestured with my hand to allow them through. It must be about the latest incident in the city. I sat down on my chair and placed my hands on the armrest.
Dom entered the office with a dark aura around him. He wore a black suit and black leather boots. He also came with Nate behind him. I had a cold glint in my eyes as he slightly bowed his head to me. I could sense there was something off about him, but I was not sure yet.
"Sorry, Boss, this couldn't wait-" Dom said with a panicked look. I signaled for them both to sit down on the chairs opposite me. He took a weary sigh as he continued. "There are updates in the streets that someone attacked the jackals today."
I furrowed my brows. The jackals were a small gang in my organization, however, they were notorious and ruthless. This made them a group not to be trifled with. Their attacker must have been quite formidable to be able to ambush them in their neighborhood successfully.
"Have you contacted our person in the police force?" I asked in a calm tone. I stylishly glanced at Nate, he had a serious face like he was invested in our conversation.
"Yes, he went there with his unit. But, it was cleared. Although there were signs of struggle all over the place. Only the new set of girls kept in the room were found, but there was already a news crew on site, so he couldn't move them discreetly." Dom whispered to me. I let out a deep sigh.
"Hope it can't be traced back to us?" Dom shook his head. I slumped back on my chair in relief. "Send some of our men to track jack. He has to explain what happened." I said to Dom in a serious tone. He nodded in approval.
I glanced at Nate, seated quietly next to him. "Any update on the contract?" I snarled at him. He curved his lips slightly to reveal a smirk on his face.
"Yes, they will make a formal announcement that they are partnering with your company before it commences." He had a smug look on his face. A wave of anger washed over me. As much as I don't like him, he has accomplished all the missions given to him without hassle. He has become a valuable asset in my team whom I can rely on.
"That will be all for now. Tell all the boys to remain vigilant." I signaled for both of them to leave. They both nodded in agreement and left. Nate grinned as they walked away. I felt a lump in my throat while watching his retreating figure.
