The Tales of Draconic Warlock

Chapter 265: Graduation Exams (7)

I checked my first duelmate. It's some guy from the lower classes. I don't even know the name. I never learned all the names of students in my batch.

There were a lot of people and learning all their names is a waste of time.

Many of these students are either idiots who get themselves killed or disappear into obscurity as time goes on. They are mediocre at best when compared to most awakened. Sure they would reach ranks that are not easy to most awakened but those ranks would be never above Tier-3 before their inevitable deaths.

This did happen when that monster tide happened some time ago. A few of my batchmates dies in that tide. Many went there to gain points easily or so that's what they thought.

So, unless they caused some stir in society, I felt that it would be a waste of time to learn their names.

Sure, it may appear improper on my side to not learn about fellow batchmates but the match is not made of ten or thirty or even a hundred. There are more people on the list and after graduation, it is less likely to meet them again. So, there is no proper reason for me to learn all the names and their stories.

The only thing that matters to me is that, whoever this is, I could crush him easily but as I said before, I won't take anyone lightly. This is the graduation exam and there are many observants. Every participant would have their own bag of tricks.

Looking down on an opponent, no matter how weak that opponent is, is considered stupid. Stupidity gets people killed. Though killing in these duels is forbidden and there are formations to prevent such incidents, it is still best to watch out for the opponents, to avoid any dangers. I soon arrived at the stage, where my duel would take place. My opponent arrived a few minutes behind me.

The entire academy arrived at the same time. So, being more powerful than anyone in the class, I easily arrived at the duel site before him.

I think I recognize his face but not his name. It doesn't matter anyway. After this match, the chances of us meeting again are very low and the chances would likely be zero after we graduate.

So, for me, only the duel matters. There are many powerful people watching this duel along with other duels. So I have to put on an act based on the opponent's performance.

I can't after all appear too OP. It would definitely attract more attention than I wanted.

---

Five minutes...the duel ended in five minutes.

The referee introduced our names, though not to each other but to the observers, at least that's what I think. Once the referee gave the start signal. my opponent lunged at me with his sword.

He is a swordsman, and as a physical damage dealer using swords, he can only do damage to opponents in close range.

Of course, as a spellcaster, a long-range magic damage dealer, I can't let that happen and I didn't. I made sure that he stayed as far away from me as possible using my spells.

I didn't show any fancy moves, except my shadow spells. As I said, using other skills would attract more attraction than I want. Moreover, this opponent is too weak for me to even think about utilizing other skills.

Even though he is weak, to those watchers, I am weak too and I acted as such. I may be stronger than the opponent but my data shows that I am only a bit stronger than my opponent. If I appear to be an anomaly, it would be a problem.

Those old powerhouses love anomalies. I would certainly become their lab rat. Even if I didn't end up as their lab rat, they would certainly make use of me as a slave. Though on the surface I would not be a slave, it would be what I would become.

I like my freedom very much and don't like to work as some slave worker to someone else. No, Thank you.

This is why I made sure I took five minutes before I defeated the guy. By this, even if they know that I am strong, they would just think that's only among my peers, not among all the awakened.

---

Now that my first match is over. It's time for the second one, which is on the stage beside this one. So there is no need to run from one end to the other.

Also, a fifteen-minute break was given as mandatory after each match. In this gap, almost any potion can be consumed. It doesn't matter whether it is a health potion, magic potion or endurance potion, no one cares.

The only restriction would be that there should be no double powerup using potions. When a power-up potion is consumed, it would temporarily boost for ten minutes, half-hour or an hour. So, before the previous potion's power is gone, taking another potion to power up is not allowed.

If it is allowed then it would be no different than allowing to consume two potions during a duel match.

Some idiots do try to cheat, as I heard that happening before but they were caught easily. Every moment we make here is under the eyes of those powerhouses. Once we were transported from the academy, everything that we did, was under the eyes of those powerhouses.

Nothing escapes their senses. So it's best not to cheat.

I don't need to cheat but I have to waste Magic Regeneration potions. I am a Warlock and I used magic in that match. To make myself return to my peak I have to use the potion. This was because, according to those powerhouses, I just used a lot of Magic Power in that last match.

If I don't recuperate that, how can I face my next opponent and win?

That would be an anomaly. So during my rest time, I consumed a magic potion and also an endurance potion, all to keep up the fake show.
