The Synthesis Wizard

Chapter 222: Chapter 222: More Fitting as an Assistant

".How do you know about the Starfall Society?" Lize stared at Sunan with a curious expression.

"I read about it in some ancient texts," Sunan replied nonchalantly.

The Starfall Society wasn't particularly renowned among the various wizard factions, barely considered a third-rate power. Their only notable trait was their exceptional skill in crafting alchemical creations.

Thinking about this, Falling Star City was likely a creation of the Starfall Society.

In Sunan's memory, the Starfall Society had collapsed due to internal strife. Could it have been because of Falling Star City?

Seeing that Sunan didn't elaborate, Lize didn't press further. She sighed and said, "Yes, I was a member of the Starfall Society, and Falling Star City was created by our organization."

After a moment's hesitation, she decided to speak frankly.

"After Falling Star City was completed, the Starfall Society had disagreements on how to handle it. External forces took advantage of this, leading to conflict. The result was disastrous, with heavy casualties. I was the only survivor."

"But I was gravely injured. To prevent Falling Star City from falling into external hands, I activated its teleportation program, hiding it deep within the Rainbow Sea. By then, I was on the brink of death."

"Unwilling to die, I merged my soul into the grimoire I carried. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to survive as a ghost."

Sunan asked, "And what about the key held by the Russell family?"

"When I first became a ghost, I was too weak and fell into a deep sleep. When I awoke, the wizards had already left the Starlight Continent. I didn't want to remain a ghost forever, so I found a way to send the method of entering Falling Star City and the Sun-Melting Pearl to the Russell family, hoping a genius would emerge, become a wizard, and find a way to resurrect me. Unfortunately, for over two hundred years, I found no suitable candidate."

"You didn't tell them about your existence?"

Lize paused, then said, "Even in the same family, I couldn't guarantee that everyone would have pure intentions."

Sunan understood.

Even the closest families could produce wayward descendants.

If one appeared with ulterior motives, coveting Lize's soul, her situation would become extremely perilous.

A formal wizard's soul was among the most valuable treasures on the Starlight Continent.

Unless a suitable candidate emerged, Lize would continue to wait patiently.

"Why did the Russell family later become unable to enter Falling Star City?" Sunan continued.

Lize glanced at the crystal-clear orb, sighing, "The Starlight Continent's environment greatly affected Falling Star City's star core. Over the years, the core's energy absorption fell short. To maintain operations, Falling Star City closed its entrance over seven hundred years ago and gradually shut down most facilities, leaving only this tower functional."

Hearing this, Sunan was puzzled.

If Falling Star City closed its entrance, how did he get in?

Could it be...

Sensing Sunan's confusion, Lize said, "Yes, I brought you in."

"While I can't fully control Falling Star City, I have some authority, like making it respond to the Sun-Melting Pearl."

"I didn't have high hopes, but you're more capable than I expected, finding your way here so quickly."

As she spoke, Lize couldn't help but glance at the cat on Sunan's shoulder.

She suspected that his success in finding Falling Star City had something to do with the little creature. Why else would he bring a cat?

The small thing seemed to lack any combat ability.

Noticing Lize's gaze, Amy shrank back behind Sunan's neck.

"You communicated with the sirens in the same way?"

"Yes."

"What is your purpose?"

"I want to regain a physical form!" Lize emphasized, "A body that will allow me to continue on the wizard's path!"

Sunan frowned.

If it were merely about regaining a physical form, even as a ghost, it wouldn't be too difficult for Lize.

A body of a legendary knight's caliber could accommodate a wizard's soul.

After fighting the deep-sea Nagas for so long, a suitable corpse could surely be found.

However, reviving in such a manner would cause a significant decline in Lize's power. Maintaining a third-circle wizard apprentice level would be fortunate, and further advancement would be out of the question.

Moreover, her lifespan would drastically decrease.

Once she reached the end of her natural life, she wouldn't be able to become a ghost again.

With so many drawbacks, Lize's reluctance to choose this method was understandable.

But creating a body perfectly compatible with a wizard's soul was no simple task.

"I haven't delved into this field, so I can't help you," Sunan shook his head.

"I have a method for reshaping a body, but I'm missing the materials."

Sunan's interest was piqued. "Like Hearts of the Sea?"

Hearts of the Sea were essences of oceanic power.

And the ocean itself had the power to reshape bodies—take the sirens, for example, who were semi-undead beings revived by the sea. Hence, Hearts of the Sea could serve as materials for reshaping a body.

Lize nodded, "Hearts of the Sea are just one type. I also need Blue Lotus Flame, Sun Phoenix Grass, World Tree Branch, Blackthorn Marrow, and Silver Silk Spring Water..."

As Sunan listened, he was left speechless.

Each material was more precious than the last.

Hearts of the Sea were already incredibly rare, yet they ranked low on the list.

"These materials could have been gathered a thousand years ago, but it's impossible on today's Starlight Continent."

"I know," Lize pursed her lips, "I can wait. Once the planar barriers are fully restored, the Starlight Continent can connect with other planes, making it possible to collect these materials."

"You have patience."

"After all, I'm a ghost. As long as the grimoire remains, I won't perish."

At this point, Lize noticed something amiss, looking at Sunan in surprise.

"You don't seem surprised about the planar barriers. Did you already know about the planar blockade?"

"I read about it in the Starry Tower's texts."

"The Starry Tower? I recall that's a legacy of the Dark Throne."

Lize's expression shifted, as if wanting to say more but hesitating.

The Dark Throne's reputation was well-known; they wouldn't kindly leave behind knowledge and resources without ensuring those who inherited them were under their control.

Since Sunan had entered the Starry Tower and emerged safely, did that mean...

As Lize's mind raced, Sunan spoke:

"I destroyed the Starry Tower."

Lize was momentarily stunned, then incredulous.

Destroyed?

How was that possible?

But Sunan had no reason to lie to her about this.

Her life was essentially in Sunan's hands, for him to decide. There was no reason for him to deceive her.

".Aren't you worried about the Dark Throne's retaliation?"

"Should I submit to their slavery out of fear?" Sunan shrugged. "Besides, the multiverse has more than just the Dark Throne. In fact, the Dark Throne has plenty of enemies. There are ways to avoid their retaliation."

Lize fell silent.

The more she conversed with Sunan, the more she realized how enigmatic he was.

Though he hadn't lived through the era a thousand years ago, he seemed to understand everything, leaving her baffled.

"You've said so much but haven't mentioned the most crucial thing."

Sunan's words brought Lize back from her thoughts.

He watched her with an amused expression.

"Gathering so many precious materials is no easy task. If you want my help, what do you offer in return?"

Lize seemed prepared and immediately replied, "I have the 'Falling Star' talent crystal model from the Starfall Society. It's a high-level talent crystal model. If you agree to help me, I can give it to you."

Sunan shook his head, "Not enough."

"A high-level talent crystal model isn't rare for me. It doesn't compensate for my future efforts."

Lize frowned, thinking Sunan intended to ask for too much. But before she could speak, Sunan pointed, and numerous beams of light appeared in the void, weaving into a complex crystal model.

It was the 'Liquid Metal' talent crystal model!

Not the final super talent crystal model Sunan synthesized, but a 'semi-finished' model slightly above high-level, not yet reaching super level.

When synthesizing, Sunan recorded each semi-finished model, thinking they might come in handy later.

And the model before them was an illusion created by his mental power.

Even as a semi-finished model not yet at super level, Lize was utterly stunned.

Though she had lost her physical form, her wizard's insight remained, allowing her to see the intricate and exquisite nature of the talent crystal model.

Among high-level talent crystal models, this one ranked among the top tier.

Sunan's next words left her in shock.

"This is a talent crystal model I created."

Sunan unabashedly attributed the Rubik's Cube's achievement to himself.

"Whether you believe me or not, creating high-level talent crystal models isn't difficult for me, so your 'Falling Star' doesn't hold as much value as you think."

Lize fell silent.

She wanted to doubt Sunan's words, but reason told her that he couldn't have encountered such top-tier talent crystal models on the Starlight Continent.

It was likely, as he said, that he created it himself.

If true, 'Falling Star' indeed wasn't that valuable to him.

At least if he wanted, he could create another high-level talent crystal model himself.

Amidst her shock, Lize realized something else.

Talent crystal models were important secrets for any wizard.

Since Sunan dared to reveal his creation of a top-tier high-level talent crystal model, he was undoubtedly sending a message.

Offer enough compensation to become his partner, or take the secret to the grave.

In simple terms, he had her cornered!

After a long pause, Lize spoke again, her voice tinged with bitterness, "I can share all the knowledge I possess."

"Like?"

"Designs for Falling Star City, the tentacle puppet, some fourth-circle potions and wizard tools, and information on other wizard powers."

Her resources and magical items had long been worn down by over a thousand years.

Aside from her soul, the only compensation she could offer was knowledge and information.

Sunan's gaze flickered upon hearing this.

After unifying the Starlight Continent, he had diligently collected all wizard texts.

He had already gathered comprehensive knowledge for wizard apprentices, comparable to the wizard era.

But knowledge at the wizard level was severely lacking, with only a small portion obtained from the Starry Tower.

Spells were somewhat better, with everything up to the fifth circle.

But knowledge related to wizard-level puppets, fourth-circle potions, and wizard tools was scarce.

Lize, having lived during the golden age of wizards and as a member of the Starfall Society, surely possessed substantial knowledge, potentially addressing these gaps.

However, that alone wasn't enough.

His mind racing, Sunan maintained a calm facade, speaking confidently, "In addition to that, you must serve me for a thousand years, even after regaining your body."

"You want me as your subordinate?" Lize showed discontent.

Sunan smiled slightly, "Assistant is a more fitting term."

"Don't worry; I won't force you to do anything that compromises your dignity or values. You just need to help manage the Star Alliance when I'm busy and occasionally assist with experiments. Since you'll be waiting for the planar barriers to restore, you might as well find something to do to pass the time, right?"

Lize fell silent again, her expression fluctuating as she wrestled with her thoughts.

In the end, the allure of regaining a body prevailed. She sighed deeply, giving Sunan a complex look before nodding.

"Alright, I agree."

"A wise choice," Sunan's lips curled into a smile.

A simple verbal agreement couldn't be trusted, so they finalized various details, including Lize's responsibilities as an assistant and prohibitions against actions detrimental to the Star Alliance and Sunan.

Most importantly, she had to keep everything confidential.

Even after the thousand-year service ended, she couldn't disclose any secrets of the Star Alliance or Sunan.

Once they ensured nothing was overlooked, they signed a vow contract.

As the vow's light flickered and faded, Lize exhaled in relief.

Though the future remained uncertain, she now had hope of regaining her body.

She no longer had to worry about Falling Star City exhausting its energy, leaving her forever trapped in an alternate dimension.
