Chapter 219: Chapter 219: The Abandoned Sirens
A strong wind blew across the sea, stirring waves on its vast surface. In the middle of the ocean lay a sea area with a deeper hue, resembling a sapphire embedded in the water.
From above, it appeared like a blue eye, giving the "Azure Eye" its name.
Beneath the sea, hundreds of meters deep, stretched a complex of structures built atop coral reefs. The hollow reefs had been transformed into exquisite homes.
Between the reefs, small buildings made from coral, shells, seaweed, and stone were scattered, creating a picturesque underwater village.
Beautiful sirens sat atop the coral reefs, their snake-like tails swaying gently as they sang. Though surrounded by water, their voices carried clearly, as if resonating directly within one's mind.
At the center of this complex was a grand palace, towering above the surrounding buildings, enhancing its majestic presence.
More astonishing was the absence of water around the palace, forming an air-filled bubble-like area, a hundred meters in radius, as if an invisible force pushed the sea away.
Inside the depths of the palace, in a spacious hall, the light from whale oil lamps illuminated the entire room. Aida knelt before a long table, her posture reverent as she chanted strange syllables.
As the melodious sound spread, strands of starlight appeared out of nowhere, crisscrossing and forming the outline of a book on the table, which then materialized.
It was a large book, floating in mid-air, its pale green cover facing downward, shimmering with a cold metallic sheen, adorned with a white jade gardenia.
An invisible hand turned the book's pages, revealing a black vortex at the center of one page, slowly expanding until it covered the entire surface.
A cold female voice emerged from the vortex.
"Aida, it's two months until the annual audience day. Why summon me early?"
Aida bowed her head, replying respectfully, "Honored one, our tribe faces an unprecedented crisis. We implore you to save us!"
"Crisis?" The cold voice grew slightly sharper. "Explain in detail."
"Yes, honored one!"
Aida quickly recounted recent events.
Upon hearing, the cold voice paused before speaking again, now tinged with displeasure. "Why wasn't this mentioned during the last audience?"
Ashamed, Aida replied, "I underestimated their power. I thought we could first deal with the deep-sea Nagas, collect enough Hearts of the Sea for your descent, and then you could lead us against the humans."
During the last audience, Aida had hidden the sirens' defeat at Coral Island to avoid reprimand. She believed that stopping the humans from building the island was impossible and decided to focus on defeating the deep-sea Nagas first.
She thought that once the honored one descended, dispatching the humans would be easy.
Who would have thought the humans would act so swiftly, forming a fleet shortly after completing the islands, and heading straight for their home?
Aida had heard descriptions from her tribe about the terrifying power of the metal ships, and now over a hundred were coming for the Azure Eye!
They couldn't possibly withstand such an assault!
Their only hope was to seek the honored one's help.
Faced with Aida's earnest plea, the cold voice remained silent.
As Aida's anxiety grew, the voice finally spoke again, but its words were chilling.
"You're on your own."
As the voice faded, the book shattered into countless rays of light, vanishing into the air.
"Honored one!"
Aida raised her head in panic, shouting desperately.
But the table was already empty.
Aida quickly knelt again, chanting more fervently.
Yet after a long time, no response came.
Aida ceased her chanting, collapsing to the ground, her face pale.
The empty table starkly presented a cold reality—the sirens had been abandoned by their honored one!
At that moment, a commotion outside jolted Aida from her despair.
She hurried outside, only to see a tribesman rushing toward her in panic.
"Chieftain, bad news! The humans are attacking!"
Aida's face turned white.
In that instant, she deeply understood what it meant for misfortunes to never come singly.
On the vast ocean, the wind roared.
A massive fleet of over a hundred ships sailed into the Azure Eye's waters.
"This place is quite beautiful," Adil couldn't help but remark, gazing at the sapphire-like sea.
But then, Corey's voice cut through the admiration.
"Where are the sirens hiding?"
"In the Coral City, over two hundred meters underwater," Andrea pointed to the azure sea. "The sirens must have spotted us."
Sheman and the others couldn't disagree.
Such an obvious fleet—only a blind siren wouldn't see it.
Since they hadn't appeared yet, they must be planning to hide underwater and resist to the end.
After all, the ocean was naturally their domain, difficult for humans to penetrate.
Perhaps they thought that by hiding in the ocean depths, the Star Alliance wouldn't be able to reach them.
"Let's attack and finish this quickly so we can report back to the teacher," Sheman said.
The group nodded.
After nearly four years in the Rainbow Sea, they were eager to wrap things up and return to Starlight Academy.
This battle was the navy's first test; proving their combat power would demonstrate the Star Alliance's dominance at sea, completing their mission here.
With the order to attack, the metal hulls of the magic ships suddenly glowed, expanding into a faint barrier encasing the massive vessels.
From a distance, the entire fleet appeared enveloped in giant bubbles.
In the next moment, these bubbles broke the sea's surface, submerging into the depths.
The crushing pressure from all directions only slightly deformed the barriers, unable to break through this layer of protection.
Hundreds of magic ships slowly navigated underwater.
Soon, a sprawling complex of buildings appeared in view.
Numerous sirens, holding tridents, gathered before Coral City, their faces pale as they stared at the massive forms before them, fear etched in their eyes.
They never imagined there could be ships capable of submerging into the sea!
The ocean, once their trusted shield, could no longer protect them from these human invaders.
As the magic ships spread out, encircling Coral City, despair grew in the sirens' eyes.
Just then, a figure suddenly emerged, swimming toward the magic ships.
"Chieftain!"
Recognizing the figure, the sirens were shocked.
Several high-ranking sirens instinctively moved to follow but were halted by Aida's gesture.
Watching from afar, Sheman was curious about the siren chieftain's intentions and ordered the ships to hold fire.
Aida swam to the largest magic ship and opened her mouth, her unique siren voice echoing through the water.
"Star Alliance leader, please come forward!"
"What does she want?" Flaming wondered, frowning in confusion.
The group was equally puzzled, turning their gazes to Sheman and Corey.
While Andrea was the public leader in Rainbow Bay, Sheman and Corey held the highest authority.
Sheman glanced at Corey, who showed no intention of moving, and leaped from the deck.
"I'll speak with her."
Manipulating the water energy particles to create a dry space around him, Sheman quickly approached Aida.
"Siren chieftain, what do you wish to say?"
Aida looked Sheman over, seemingly surprised by his youth, hesitating before speaking. "Can you make decisions for the Star Alliance?"
"Within Rainbow Bay, and if the requests aren't excessive, I can decide."
Sheman had an inkling of her intentions.
Sure enough, Aida spoke with a heavy tone, "If the Star Alliance guarantees the safety of our tribe and harms none of us, we will surrender."
Sheman smiled, "Of course, as long as you don't resist, we have no desire for unnecessary casualties."
Relieved by Sheman's agreement, Aida felt a mix of emotions.
Abandoned by their honored one, the sirens couldn't resist the Star Alliance's power; surrender was their only option.
The anticipated battle didn't erupt, saving much effort.
Andrea was tasked with arranging the sirens' situation, while Sheman and his team took Aida back to Rainbow Bay aboard a Class 1 magic ship, then quickly teleported back to Dragon Forest.
Half an hour later, Aida found herself in a reception room, meeting the true leader of the Star Alliance.
"Sit."
Sunan gestured to the sofa opposite.
Aida nervously sat down.
On the way, Sheman had informed her that his teacher, the Star Alliance's leader, wanted to see her.
Seeing him in person, Aida's innate siren sensitivity to aura made her acutely aware of the powerful pressure emanating from him.
What puzzled her even more was that this pressure felt somewhat similar to their honored one's.
"Has the siren tribe truly received divine favor?" Sunan asked directly, getting to the point.
Aida hesitated before shaking her head. "I'm not sure anymore."
Before the Star Alliance fleet arrived, she had unwavering faith in the honored one, believing that she was the legendary deity, a blessing to the siren tribe.
But a deity should be omnipotent.
Could a deity who abandons believers in crisis truly be a deity?
Aida was filled with confusion and doubt.
Seeing Aida's changing expressions and considering the sirens' surrender, Sunan quickly deduced the truth, a knowing smile forming.
"It seems you've been abandoned by your deity."
Before Aida could respond, Sunan continued.
"Tell me how you encountered this deity."
Aida sighed, speaking softly.
The deity's appearance dated back fifty years.
During a major battle with the deep-sea Nagas, the deity intervened, stirring waves and storms to defeat the Nagas, allowing the sirens to survive and turn the tide.
When Aida thanked the deity and asked for a name, the deity claimed to be the Sea Goddess, sealed over ten thousand years ago and only recently awakened.
Before being sealed, the sirens had been her followers, so upon awakening and seeing them nearly wiped out by the Nagas, she intervened.
Hearing this, Sunan immediately knew the Sea Goddess was a fake.
Not only had there never been a Sea Goddess on the Starlight Continent, but even if there had been, she would have been captured from another plane by wizards.
If it were the latter, there's no way the wizards would have left such a valuable resource on the Starlight Continent when they departed a thousand years ago.
Even if such an oversight occurred, with a Sea Goddess sealed somewhere on the continent, how could she awaken without any believers to provide faith, unable to absorb power from other planes due to the planar blockade?
His mind raced, but Sunan showed no sign of it, continuing to listen to Aida.
Initially, Aida was skeptical.
But as the "Sea Goddess" taught the sirens advanced combat skills, helped them master more powerful illusions, and instructed them on cultivating rare plants, Aida's doubts faded, and she came to believe in the deity, offering her faith.
Afterward, the "Sea Goddess" commanded them to collect Hearts of the Sea, promising that with enough, she could descend as a saint and lead the sirens to dominate the Rainbow Sea.
"Collecting Hearts of the Sea..."
Sunan's eyes reflected contemplation.
The Heart of the Sea was a rare material used in crafting magical items or precious potions, like the water element elixir.
The latter was essential for many wizards during elemental transformation.
Beyond that, Sunan couldn't fathom the purpose of collecting Hearts of the Sea for this so-called "Sea Goddess."
"So, you've never seen the deity's true form?"
"No," Aida shook her head. "The honored one said she had just awakened and was at her weakest, only able to remain conscious for a short time each year, arranging an annual audience day. During these audiences, she appeared to me only as a book."
