Chapter 249 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Protects Basic Human Rights

Chapter 249: Divine Cat Mii-chan Protects Basic Human Rights

Mii-chan took all the credit, leaving the hunters stunned.

“Nero, that was an amazing move!” said Rosalinde, assuming I was the one who did it.

“What?! Wasn’t it the kitten?”

“Are you an idiot? There’s no way a kitten could do something like that!”

“But still…”

“Mii…”

It’s okay, Mii-chan. I know that you’re the one who protected everyone. I’ll give you kisses to show my gratitude.

“Mii~♪”

While I was kissing Mii-chan, five burly men and three who seemed to be executives stepped out from the mansion’s entrance.

“Well, well! You really did it now. Where are you all from?”

“I’ve got nothing to say to trash like you.”

“Better watch what you say! Hey, have some fun with them!”

The five burly men seemed to be bodyguards for the executives and looked tough. Two hunters stepped forward from our group, which included me, Rosalinde, Letty, and the hunters.

Sorry to ruin their fun, but I’ll finish this in one blow. The guy in front of me is way stronger than me and seems to be the toughest of the five. He has some impressive skills too. Well, there are plenty of people stronger than me… thinking about it makes me a little sad.

“Mii…”

Since there’s no formal signal to start, I’ll take the initiative! I channel Mii-chan’s divine lightning and layer my own on top, pointing my index finger at the man. People say not to point fingers at others, but in this situation, I can’t afford to care about that—my life is on the line.

A bluish-white light shoots from my fingertip, and a lightning whip lashes out at him. This is the first time I’ve used it on a living thing… the man trembles and his whole body is enveloped in the bluish-white light. I can tell that if I continue, he’ll end up like a tree struck by lightning, so I stop the discharge. He collapses with his eyes rolled back, smoke—or is it steam?—rising from his body. Did I… kill him?

“Hey, so it wasn’t the kitten after all…”

“Of course not…”

“What the hell was that skill…?”

“Such… malice…”

“Is that the lord of this town…?”

“He’s not a demon lord, right…?”

“Mii…”

They’re saying some harsh things, and calling me a demon lord is just rude. I deliberately used this skill to make them think that the earlier event was my doing, not Mii-chan’s. The sheer impact should convince them it was me. Sadly, it only makes me look like a villain… but I guess that’s inevitable since I’m mimicking a villain’s move. So being called a demon lord makes sense, I suppose.

My attack signals the start of the others’ battles. Letty and Rosalinde are doing just fine. Letty’s opponent is swinging a great sword, but attacking the wrong spot—probably because of Letty’s skill, which I’ve seen before. I wish she’d teach me, it seems really useful.

Rosalinde, despite being an archer, is displaying incredible swordsmanship. I’d heard she was strong even barehanded, but she’s terrifyingly skilled… High Elf. I feel chills down my spine…

The two hunters, though, seem a bit outmatched. While they might be competent hunters, they’re not quite up to par here… Then I remember: the hunter party recommended by Guildmaster Herda isn’t here because they took a bodyguard request elsewhere.

One of the hunters gets thrown off balance by a feint from his opponent. The mafia’s bodyguard is about to strike him down, but I create a stone pillar with my earth skill next to the hunter, blocking the sword with a sharp clang.

“Y-you cheater! This was supposed to be a one-on-one!”

“Huh? Is that so? I had no idea.”

“Tch, damn scum.”

Getting called dirty by the mafia doesn’t bother me. As the bodyguard is rattled, the hunter takes advantage and slices his arm, rendering him unable to fight. Seeing the tide turn against them, the three executives try to flee but are quickly captured by the remaining hunters, kicking up a fuss. Pathetic…

Letty and Rosalinde secured easy victories, and another bodyguard surrendered, throwing down his weapon.

But where’s the mafia boss? He hasn’t shown himself at all. Could he have escaped through some hidden exit we don’t know about?

While the hunters searched the mansion, one of them came to report that the mafia boss had been found dead in a room. Suicide? No, apparently not. Interrogating the three executives revealed that they had killed him amidst the chaos. It seems they lost faith in him for being indecisive in an ongoing feud with another mafia that had recently arrived from the royal capital. Worse, he even tried to ally with the rival mafia, leading them to betray him.

Everyone in the mansion was captured. I split the hunters into four groups, sending three of them to the estates of the three executives. The remaining hunters tied up the captives. Some of them were women and children, which made it hard to watch… but it had to be done. It’s painful to see them like that, though.

“Mii…”

After entering the mansion, I stored everything away. This mansion, even the land, is larger and grander than the local magistrate’s residence. As expected from the mafia boss’s mansion and headquarters. He had hoarded a vast amount of gold, weapons, alcohol, food, and medicines—it seemed like he was preparing for a rebellion. I wonder just how many evil deeds this organization has committed. Taking them down was necessary. Some might say that a mafia like this is a “necessary evil,” but when they go too far, they’re just pests.

I hope that this incident will make Baron Brocken known for his zero-tolerance stance against evil. The upper class has become far too corrupt, treating people like they’re not human. It’s important that the citizens understand that he stands apart from such vile figures and that they should be able to live their lives without their basic human rights being violated.

“Mii~”
