Chapter 248 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Roars in Victory
Chapter 248: Divine Cat Mii-chan Roars in Victory
We divided the hunters into two groups: one led by Glenhart, the other by Rosalinde. Glenhart’s group headed for the Assassin Guild, while Rosalinde’s group went to the Shadow Finance Guild.
I decided to follow the Shadow Finance Guild group. The Bandit Guild was tasked with sealing off entry and exit points and keeping watch to ensure no one escaped during the raid.
Upon reaching the Shadow Finance Guild’s base, a member of the Bandit Guild approached to report. Most of the members were present, though a few were not. Bandit Guild members were already tailing those who weren’t here, so after raiding this place, we’d go after them. We also had the locations of the top executives’ residences, so we planned to secure those as well.
Before arriving, I used my earth skills to completely seal off the secret passageway out of town that Letty had reported. Unless they had similar earth skills, it would be nearly impossible to dig it out by hand in a short time.
With everything in place, a few hunters blocked the building’s entrances while the Bandit Guild covered the other escape routes, and the rest of the hunters stormed in. The Shadow Finance Guild had many members, but they put up little resistance and were quickly captured.
Mii-chan and I walked through the mansion, storing everything we found. I checked suspicious spots using my mapping skills and stored entire safes without bothering to open them yet. We found four hidden safes and two secret rooms. While I hadn’t checked their contents, I had high hopes—this was the Shadow Finance Guild, after all.
“Mii~”
The captured guild members were handed over to the town guards. We split into two more groups: one to raid the executives’ residences and the other to capture those who hadn’t been here. I headed to Glenhart’s group at the Assassin Guild’s base.
The Assassin Guild fought back to the bitter end, and all of them were killed. Some hunters were injured or poisoned, but fortunately, the poison wasn’t fast-acting. I gave the poisoned hunters some of Mii-chan’s mineral water.
The Assassin Guild’s base was hidden like a secret room, so the cleanup didn’t take long. After finishing up, we also raided the Shadow Finance Guild executives’ residences, stored everything, and returned to the Hunter Guild.
We took a short break at the Hunter Guild before moving on to the main event of the day. This time, the opponents were not only numerous but also a martial group. A fight was inevitable, and it wouldn’t be an easy one. While we could ignore the small fry, we had to capture or confirm the deaths of the executives. Once we took down the core members, the rest would scatter like headless chickens.
The hunters switched from their earlier casual outfits to full gear, ready for action. Since the mafia factions were in conflict with each other, most of their members were gathered at their respective bases. The Bandit Guild would handle any secret exits, and we planned a direct frontal assault.
I also prepared my equipment, and Mii-chan, sitting on my shoulder, snorted with determination. “Mii-chan, you don’t have to push yourself to fight, okay?”
“Mii~!”
For some reason, Mii-chan seemed as eager as ever…
“Who are you people?!”
Two guards at the gate were quickly knocked out by the hunters. Ouch… that looked painful.
“Intruders!”
A man near the mansion’s window noticed the commotion and shouted. We weren’t planning to fight inside the mansion, so it worked out perfectly. As the hunters stormed the large garden, the mafia members rushed out with weapons drawn.
“Who the hell are you?!”
“Does it really matter? Let’s get this started!” Rosalinde shouted nonchalantly, signaling the start of the battle. As expected, some of the mafia members, who had used violence to control the town, were powerful enough to rival the hunters. Rosalinde provided support from the rear with her bow, but many of these guys were not to be underestimated.
The mafia grunts, however, fought recklessly, more like suicide charges than real battles. This resulted in numerous injuries among the hunters. While they were seasoned monster fighters, they had less experience with human opponents, and it seemed they unconsciously held back. Who would have thought we’d see the hunters’ weakness exposed here…
I moved in to provide support, shooting out the legs of the mafia members. However, during a magazine change, my defense became vulnerable. Normally, Perro would cover me, but he wasn’t here today. Despite my best efforts, one of the mafia grunts spotted my pause and charged at me. I knew I couldn’t reload in time and started to retreat, but just as the thug reached me, he collapsed a few steps short…
“Mii~!”
From my shoulder, Mii-chan had placed one paw on my head for balance and unleashed a divine lightning strike with her other paw to protect me. Mii-chan… did you take him down?
“Mii?”
Snorting proudly, Mii-chan sent out more divine lightning strikes shaped like cat punches, knocking down the mafia members one after another. In the end, Mii-chan claimed a flawless victory.
“Mii~!”
Though I couldn’t see her well, Mii-chan seemed to be giving a triumphant roar from my shoulder… Was Mii-chan always this kind of character?
“Mii! Mii!”
