Chapter 10: NICELY PLAYED
~{INGRID'S POV}~
*
My eyes quickly snapped open as I jerked in my chair. But when I looked around, I frowned.
Not only was it a dream but Flare was still lying on the bed like nothing had happened.
Actually, nothing happened.
It was just a dream, but it felt real.
I slowly got up and picked the bowl of water and cloth so I could hand it over to the boy or even the lady herself.
And as I got to the door, his words replayed in my mind; 'The fact that you want me."
Of course I wanted him, after all I found him first. Unless he was talking about the other kind of want.
I quickly shook my head and headed out of the room after glancing at him one last time to be sure he hadn't really woken up. And when I stepped outside, it was then I realized the sun had gone down, telling me that it would soon get dark.
Lights lit up in every house but people sat around as they conversed with each other while some were having their dinner.
"You're awake!"
Someone exclaimed and I blinked as I looked at him.
Being a Theta wolf was close to being a human. My senses weren't really sharp so I had failed to notice when the boy came up to me.
"What's your name?" I asked, after all he saved us.
"Jelly," he answered and my brows came together in wonder.
"Jelly? What kind of a name is that?"
"Haven't you heard of it?" He asked back and I shook my head.
"What's your name, miss?"
"Ingrid."
"And your husband?" He further asked.
"Flare," I replied and he grinned.
"Such lovely names. Would you like to eat something?"
At his question, I nodded and something came to mind.
"What do you feed my husband while he's asleep?"
I asked and noticed how fluently the word 'husband' came out.
"Watery food," he answered and I nodded in understanding.
As I looked at every house, I realized they were all cottages including the one Flare and I were.
"We kept your bag safe for you," he said once we entered the room I had woken up from at the beginning.
"Really? Where is it?"
I asked when I got reminded of the piece of egg shell in it.
"Here it is," he took it from a corner and handed it to me before going to a small dining table.
I opened it and checked to see if it was still there and truly, it was.
"Lady Ingrid?"
"Yes?" I looked at the boy as he set the table.
Moving closer, I assisted him before sitting on one of the chairs since they were just two.
"Won't your master be joining us?"
"I'm afraid not, she has a lot to do," he answered and began to fill his plate and I did likewise.
"How did she find us?" I finally asked the question I've been wanting to ask.
"The crocodiles," he answered.
"The crocodiles?" I asked in awe.
"Yes, they were the ones who found both of you and brought you to us. They aren't harmful even when they smell human blood unless it's not a human's blood then they attack," he explained and I nodded in understanding as realization dawned on me.
"And where is this village exactly?"
"It's not very popular but located in the southern part of the east," he answered.
"Southern part of the east?" I asked in wonder and he nodded.
"And what's this village called?"
"Pristine Shaw."
After that, silence settled between us as we focused on our meal. But it was short lived because Jelly asked a question I wasn't expecting him to ask.
"Are you in search of the last dragon?"
"N-no," I lied.
"There's no need to lie, miss. I saw the piece of dragon shell in your bag," he let me know and I frowned.
"Why did you go through my things?" I demanded.
"We had to be careful of the people we let into our village. We can't afford to bring in killers or monsters," he let me know.
"Why do you ask?" I cautiously asked as I squinted my eyes at him in suspicion.
"You kept calling that man dragon," he straightforwardly said as his eyes stayed on mine in an eerie manner.
My senses immediately went on high alert the moment I could no longer move my body, making me realize he must've put something in the food.
"Wh-what did you do to me?"
At my question, he smiled and got up to stretch his limbs before facing me again.
"You're clearly not human," he declared, ignoring my question.
"Although I don't seem to know what you are exactly. But thanks to you, I have now uncovered the truth and confirmed my earlier suspicion about that man. He's truly the last dragon," he said and chuckled in glee.
"You better stay away from him!" I snapped at him.
At least my mouth was the only part of the body that could move.
"Stay away from him?" He asked and chuckled before saying, "We've already gotten what we want, silly."
"What?" I asked as color left my face in dread.
"You must've really suffered a lot to find him. But thanks to your endless suffering, we finally got our dragon." He said and headed towards the door.
"HEY! HE'S NOT YOUR DRAGON!" I yelled after him but he laughed and left the room to my dismay.
"HEY!!!!! DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH HIM!!!!" I screamed all the more as I became angry.
I couldn't accept this. After all the suffering I went through then someone just came out of nowhere to take what was mine?
NEVER! Not this time.
I groaned loudly as I tried to shift to my wolf form and the more I tried, the more I could feel my hair struggle to grow out.
"You messed with the wrong wolf, boy. I'm gonna get you and I'm gonna make sure I eat you until all that's left is bones," I growled furiously as I successfully began to shift into my wolf form.
