Chapter 5: chapter 4
Jasmine felt like her head was going to explode. Not only was she stuck in a world she barely understood, but she had to figure out how to stop an evil plot while pretending to be a maid. To make matters worse, she was still reeling from almost getting caught eating party food by one of the Rajput brothers.
The next morning, Jasmine woke up early, determined to start her day right and learn more about the household. As she shuffled out of her tiny room, she nearly bumped into the old lady from the day before.
"Good morning, sleepyhead! You better hurry and get to the garden. The flowers aren't going to water themselves!" she scolded.
Jasmine gave her a quick nod, still groggy. "Yes, yes, I'm on it!" She had no idea what she was doing but figured watering flowers couldn't be that hard. How wrong she was.
She found a garden hose near the side of the mansion and turned it on, expecting a gentle stream of water. Instead, the hose sprang to life, flailing wildly like a snake. Jasmine squealed and tried to grab it, but it slipped from her hands, spraying water everywhere.
"Whoa, whoa, stop!" she shouted, chasing after the hose. It was chaos. The hose twisted and turned, soaking her from head to toe. Jasmine, completely drenched, finally managed to catch it, only to be sprayed right in the face.
"Ahhh!" she yelled, sputtering as water poured over her.
From the balcony above, a deep laugh echoed. She looked up to see Siddharth, the second brother, leaning against the railing, watching her with a huge grin.
"Having fun down there?" he called out, still laughing.
Jasmine felt her face turn red. "Oh, just peachy!" she shouted back sarcastically, wringing out her wet hair.
Siddharth shook his head, clearly amused. "You know, you're supposed to water the plants, not yourself."
Jasmine rolled her eyes. "Thank you for that insightful tip, Mr. Obvious."
Still chuckling, Siddharth waved and disappeared back inside. Jasmine sighed, finally getting the hose under control. She managed to water the garden without further incident, though she did accidentally spray a cat, which glared at her like she'd ruined its entire day.
After finishing up in the garden, Jasmine went back inside to help with breakfast. She found herself in the dining room, setting up the table. The Rajput brothers were already there, chatting and drinking coffee.
As she carefully arranged the cutlery, she noticed a small, delicious-looking pastry on the sideboard. Her stomach growled. She glanced around—nobody was watching. *Maybe just one bite…*
Jasmine quickly grabbed the pastry and popped it into her mouth. But just as she did, Abhiraj, the eldest brother, walked in. Startled, she choked and tried to swallow it whole, but the pastry was too big. Her eyes widened as she coughed, struggling to breathe.
Abhiraj raised an eyebrow, watching her curiously. "Are you alright?"
Jasmine, still unable to speak, nodded frantically, tears forming in her eyes. She finally managed to swallow the pastry and gasped for air.
"Y-yes, sir! All good!" she wheezed.
He frowned slightly but nodded, his expression softening as he walked past her. Jasmine, still red-faced and embarrassed, took a deep breath, willing her heart to stop racing.
*Smooth, Jasmine, real smooth.* She mentally kicked herself for almost dying over a pastry.
The rest of the day was a blur of cleaning and helping prepare for a family lunch. Jasmine decided to keep a low profile after her morning mishaps. But fate had other plans.
In the afternoon, she was helping set up the dining area again when she noticed a tiny spider crawling on the tablecloth. Jasmine, not one to be afraid of bugs, decided to help it along. She gently nudged the spider onto a napkin and was about to release it outside when she heard a loud, horrified gasp.
Tara, Abhiraj's fiancée, had just walked in and spotted the spider. "AHHH! Spider!" she screamed, jumping back as if it was going to attack her.
Jasmine blinked, holding the napkin awkwardly. "It's just a spider. It won't hurt you."
Tara glared at her, clearly offended. "Get rid of it! Now!"
Jasmine shrugged and turned to leave, but then the unthinkable happened. The spider decided it was done with the napkin and crawled up Jasmine's arm instead.
"Oh, great," she muttered, trying to keep her cool.
Tara screamed again. "Get it off! Get it off!"
Jasmine, panicking a little now, tried to shake the spider off, but it only scurried up to her shoulder. She was twisting and turning, looking like she was doing some sort of weird dance. Just as she was about to grab the spider, it jumped onto the floor and scurried away.
Jasmine let out a relieved breath, but Tara looked at her as if she had committed some horrible crime. "You! Clean this up immediately!" she ordered before storming off in a huff.
"Sure, right after I stop my heart from racing," Jasmine muttered under her breath, picking up the napkin and trying to calm herself down.
As she straightened up the dining area, she couldn't help but smile. Despite all the craziness, she was starting to feel more at home here. If she could survive spiders, choking on pastries, and being drenched by a rogue hose, she could handle anything.
Maybe being a maid in a chaotic, storybook family wasn't so bad after all.
