Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Aunt Wang's Relative
Not long after returning to his rental apartment, Jaxon received a call from his landlord.
Jaxon was deeply grateful to his landlord. Without her initial help, he might have ended up homeless. The apartment he rented not only had a great location and a well-decorated interior, but the rent was also surprisingly low, saving him a significant amount of money. As a result, Jaxon had always felt indebted to her.
"Hello, Aunt Wang, what's going on?" Jaxon answered the call promptly.
"Jaxon, here's the thing. As I mentioned earlier, I have a relative coming to Goldenleaf University to study, and she plans to stay here. She's arriving today, but I have an urgent matter and can't be there myself. Could you help look after her for me?" Aunt Wang explained over the phone.
"Of course, no problem," Jaxon replied without hesitation.
Aunt Wang had indeed mentioned this to him before, and with Goldenleaf University's semester starting in just a few days, it made sense that her relative would be arriving now.
The apartment Jaxon lived in had three bedrooms and a living room. Besides the room he occupied, the other two were empty, so accommodating one more person wouldn't be an issue. As a tenant, Jaxon naturally had no objections to Aunt Wang's relative staying there.
"Thanks for your help," Aunt Wang said.
"Aunt Wang, don't mention it. I'll make sure she's well taken care of," Jaxon assured her.
"Alright, I trust you to handle it," Aunt Wang replied.
After hanging up, Jaxon put on his coat and headed out again. He planned to go to the market to buy some groceries. Since he had promised Aunt Wang to take care of her relative, Jaxon intended to do his best.
Jaxon was no stranger to grocery shopping and cooking. His year-long experience of living in a rental had sharpened his skills in the kitchen. While his cooking wasn't gourmet-level, it was still pretty decent.
"The vegetables and fruits in that game world are incredibly fresh. If I could bring some here to sell, they'd probably be a hit," Jaxon thought to himself as he browsed the market.
That world was almost identical to reality, so people there had to eat as well. Jaxon had previously eaten dry rations, but he had also noticed that the village grew vegetables and fruits, which looked exceptionally fresh. The produce there was organic and pollution-free, so the taste must be excellent.
Jaxon's thoughts returned to the vegetables and fruits. With his current financial struggles, he was constantly brainstorming ways to earn money.
"I remember there's a piece of vacant land behind the village. When I go back, I'll ask the village chief if I can rent it to grow some vegetables and fruits. That way, I'll have another source of income," Jaxon thought, increasingly convinced that this was a feasible plan.
In reality, renting land would definitely cost money, and he would also have to maintain it. Jaxon wasn't very knowledgeable about farming, nor did he have the time.
However, it was different in the game world. Once he rented the land there, it would be his, and no one could take it away. Moreover, as the only player in the beginner's village, he wouldn't have to waste time guarding it. Also, farming in the game world was undoubtedly much simpler than in reality. Just like learning the skill of alchemy, as long as Old Li agreed to teach him, he could master it quickly. Others would have to spend a long time learning, not to mention reaching an advanced level, which would take even more time and might not be achievable in a lifetime.
This was the advantage of being a player!
As for not having money to rent the land, Jaxon wasn't too worried. The village chief was a "good person," and he believed the chief would agree to let him pay later.
Money was also something that troubled Jaxon. He had killed some monsters in that world and even obtained some equipment, but he hadn't seen any money. Could it be that killing monsters in that world didn't drop money? How was he supposed to make money then?
There were many questions, but Jaxon believed that as he spent more time there, he would eventually figure everything out.
After buying the groceries and returning home, Jaxon started cooking in the kitchen and didn't stop until noon when he heard a knock on the door.
"It must be Aunt Wang's relative," Jaxon thought as he quickly put down what he was doing and ran to open the door.
However, when the door opened, both Jaxon and the person outside were stunned.
Lily was about to become a freshman at Goldenleaf University. Having grown up under her parents' watchful eyes, she had long wanted to break free and live the life she desired. Therefore, when filling out her university preferences, she chose Goldenleaf University, which was far from home, instead of staying in the capital as her parents had hoped.
Her parents had scolded her for this decision, but she was unwilling to give up. Eventually, they agreed to her choice.
One reason her parents agreed was Lily's firm insistence. The other reason was that they had a relative in Goldenleaf who could look after her, so they didn't have to worry about anything happening to her.
In order to get her parents' permission, Lily had compromised and agreed to stay with this relative. For her, it wasn't a big deal. She would just come back to sleep at night, and she could arrange her own schedule for the rest of the time.
However, before she arrived, her relative had told her that there was already a tenant in the house and asked her to be prepared. Of course, the relative had also assured her that the tenant was a very nice person, so she didn't have to worry too much.
Lily didn't take it seriously. She had never planned to spend much time there every day, just to sleep. Having an extra neighbor wouldn't make much difference.
But what Lily didn't expect was that the tenant her relative mentioned was a man! Was she supposed to live with a man?!
Lily was completely overwhelmed, frozen in place as her mind raced.
Jaxon was also stunned. He hadn't expected that Aunt Wang's relative would be a woman, and not just any woman, but a young and beautiful one. Her stunning beauty was on par with that of Chloe, whom he had seen before!
Eventually, Jaxon was the first to regain his composure and asked tentatively, "Are you Aunt Wang's relative?"
"Are you my aunt's tenant?" Lily didn't answer Jaxon's question but instead countered with one of her own.
"If you haven't come to the wrong place, then yes, I am your aunt's tenant," Jaxon replied.
"How could this be?!" Lily exclaimed, her mind spinning with disbelief.
She had never been in a relationship before, and now she was supposed to live with a man?!
Lily truly felt overwhelmed.
