Chapter 4: PEOPLE FINALLY
Gideon and his stepdaughter, Samantha, have been in the business of kidnapping people for a really long time. It was sort of something lucrative around those parts where there was fewer attention of the government task force to observe. It used to be him and his wife who sadly passed on after a brief illness and now, he had recruited Samantha. She was a pro seductress and good at doing business.
The moment he had seen that man, he had a thought that he was going to extort enough funds from him. Sadly, he had been met with something far worse than a poor person, a person with no memory at all or he probably was faking it.
Right now, he was hell bent on either getting his money or selling the man when suddenly, the man started rising up. As he rose, cracks appeared on his body and his pupils seemed to dilate into a hypnotizing hellish colour. This was nothing like he had ever seen before.
"What are you?" A stunned Gideon managed to whisper as he froze on the spot. His daughter was so scared that she fell on her butt on the ground as the man suddenly started approaching.
Before one could say anything more, he had his hand around Gideon's neck and then started to squeeze. There was something superhuman about his strength as he easily lifted Gideon and stared him directly into the eyes, a smirk emerging on his face.
"By the powers of the one true demon, I banish thee." The man said almost as if he was in a trance and suddenly, Gideon started burning from inside out. In a short time, all that was left was a black charred body which the man dropped to the ground.
Samantha let out a scream of horror as she scampered away, crying out. She had just witnessed something that would probably end her and she needed to flee from this place. She ran into the house and started frantically searching for the truck keys.
"Where is it? Damnit! Where did he leave it?" She was tossing things around, her body shaking violently as she was in a state of panic.
Unbeknownst to her, the man had come inside and he saw the keys where they had been left on top of the refrigerator by the side of the door. He did not make a sound as he picked it off and stared at her. She still had not noticed him. A smile crept onto his face. It spoke of evil and horror.
"Looking for this?" He asked her as she was checking those drawers.
Samantha suddenly turned, her back on the drawers and her breath ragged. She could tell that she was in the face of death at the moment and she needed to defend herself.
"Listen, it was all him. I swear. Please, don't kill me." She said to him,
He was looking around the cabin at this point and smiling.
"All him you say?" He asked her and she nodded her head over and over. "And then why do you fear?"
"I'm sorry. Please, don't hurt me." She said but her hand was already beginning to reach for something. It was a pistol in the drawer. Her only prayer was that it was loaded when she made the shot. "We were kind to you!"
That was her last attempt at buying herself more time.
He did not say anything but then started approaching her and she suddenly pulled the gun out and pointed it at him.
"Stay back or I swear I will kill you!" She yelled at him at the top of her lungs. Her hand was doing its very best at trying to hold steady.
He said nothing to her as he kept approaching. He did not care at all and whatever was leading him at this point was also foreign to him. She was angry now as she suddenly raised the gun to his chest level and pulled the trigger.
"Dammit it!" She muttered. The gun was jammed and she started trying to unjam it.
Too late, he was already in front of her when she looked up. Tears had welled up in her eyes, her body was shaking violently.
"Please." She muttered.
He said nothing as he held her by her neck just as he had her father.
"By the powers of the one true demon, I banish thee." He said.
"No!" She screamed out as she started burning from inside out and she was soon dropped like her father.
Only now did the man realise himself and he feared what he might actually be. He had killed two people, uttering words that he had no knowledge prior of and he probably was going to do more.
That was when something caught his eyes. It was a pack of Benson and Hedges. Something about it seemed to draw him near and he went over and raised it. The moment he touched it, flashes of memory caught his eyes.
There was a flash of him muttering the word 'Cigarette' and there was someone putting it in his mouth. The only thing was that he did not recall the face, only this feeling that he despised this person with all his being.
Seeing there was nothing more to remember, he took the pack and then found a box of matches. He had the car keys as well and then started looking around the house for some things. There was a wooden chest in there and it had cash in it which he found important as he took a couple and then changed the clothes he had been given into a polo and jeans.
It was time to leave when he caught sight of a jerry can of gasoline at the corner. This wrought a darker thought into his mind as he took it and started pouring it everywhere inside the house and then he went and brought the body of the farmer which he kept beside his daughter.
Only now did he step outside and then lit up a match stick which he threw into the house. And suddenly, everything was engulfed with flame so hot but it did not bother him.
[Two power points given for two souls received. Inventory updated. Please tap right to see what items are available]
The system was back and he was really in a hurry to find out what had been given to him.
So, he tapped the right option and there were two options on the screen.
[City map]
[Your name]
Wow, this was great. He finally was going to figure out what his name was and without considering anything, he selected that option.
[Name incomplete. Send more souls to get it updated]
"That's unfair. I sent two souls." He muttered and probably he was expecting someone to answer but there was none. He now knew that he had to settle for the map and reluctantly, he selected that option.
[City map selected; Now available. Where do you want to go?]
The system responded and a little dialogue box appeared before him with a keyboard to input letters.
Clearly, he was being messed with because he did not know where exactly he wanted to go. He could not even recollect all his memories but nevertheless, he was going to try and do something. So, he started clicking.
[PEDRO PICASSO]
He was hoping this would help him find this person.
[Request declined. Where do you want to go?]
What on earth was this?
He was already beginning to get frustrated when he decided to see the map. He backed out of the dialogue box to view the map just one more time and then a certain place struck his attention. Something about it felt almost welcoming.
[Palermo]
He had no idea why but that place was rather outstanding.
[Location accepted. Direction made available]
The system responded and suddenly, he could see the direction to the place he wanted to go.
He walked straight to the truck, at first skeptical that he would be able to pull it off but then, he turned on the ignition and the memory started flooding through on what to do.
He lit himself a cigarette for some reason and then started driving away.
It was quite a long drive but then when it was already beginning to fall dark, he arrived in the city. It was night but still busy and he found a place to park.
Suddenly he caught sight of a billboard that flashed him the date.
January 20th, 2025
At least he could now start keeping track of his time. Only now, he would try to find Pedro Picasso.
So he came down, there was a store beside where he was parked and he entered, everyone in there was staring at him as he approached a man that sat behind a counter.
"What can I do for you?" The man demanded.
"Pedro Picasso, where can I find him?" He asked the man.
"Are you nuts? Who let you in here you despicable creature?" The man demanded angrily.
