Chapter 947 947: His Choice!
Cassie embraced Flint's body. It did not take long before Scarlet surrounded them in his fire dragon form. Red lights engulfed them before they absorbed Scarlet's aura.
Scarlet used her psychic power to connect Cassie and Flint's subconscious. It was like Cassie was being teleported into a dimension where she could be present in Flint's current illusion where he was trapped.
What was he thinking? How was he being lured? Why did he get trapped in the illusion? Cassie would find out the answers in a while.
The moment Cassie opened her eyes, she saw something that shook her world. Flint was kissing someone. That someone was none other than Ella, her Aunt.
'He is thinking of her… my Aunt. He has been in love with her… It was always been her… from the start.' Cassie's heart ached at this sight. Though she knew that Ella was just an illusion, she couldn't help but feel heartbroken.
But she didn't have time to sulk around and feel sad. She went there to save Flint. She was not supposed to feel jealous. Cassie slammed her eyes shut and took a deep breath. After gathering her emotions and clearing her mind, Cassie pried her eyes open and marched toward Ella and Flint.
Upon reaching their spot, Cassie pulled Ella away from Flint, separating the two. Both Ella and Flint were surprised by her sudden interference.
"Cassie?!" Flint uttered her name with his weak voice. He staggered a little, almost falling into the ground. Fortunately, he was able to steady his footing. The mist sucked his life essence. This made him feel so weak. His energy was drained as well.
"Stay away from Flint!" Cassie released a fireball from her right hand. She would target Ella, the illusion. But before she could throw the fireball in her direction, Flint grabbed her elbow, misdirecting her aim.
"What the hell are you doing, Cassie?! Why are you attacking Ella?" Flint's angry voice resounded. He looked daggers at Cassie, clenching his jaws. He even gripped her elbow tightly.
"Don't be deceived, Flint. She is just an illusion. This is a trap! She is killing you. Can't you feel it? You've gotten weaker!" Cassie explained, enlightening Flint.
He was completely bewitched by the illusion.
Flint didn't know what to feel when he heard that. Just a while ago, he felt so happy when he saw Ella. He finally found the courage to confess his feelings for her. Then she responded to him.
'Damn it! I knew it. This was so good to be true. In the end, this is all just an illusion… created by the mist.' Flint thought to himself.
"Don't believe her, Flint. I am not an illusion. She might be the one trying to deceive us both." Ella spoke up. "She wanted to hurt me. I don't have the power to fight back. I'm just an ordinary human… like you."
"Flint… please believe me," Ella pleaded.
Cassie's eyebrows twitched and she crumpled her face. Ella used her words to confuse Flint.
"You are not Ella!" Cassie insisted, shielding Flint. She stepped into the middle, covering Flint's view. She didn't want him to be fooled by this impostor.
Flint shifted his gaze back and forth between Cassie and Ella. One of them might be telling the truth. Since Cassie showed up, he was reminded that this border of mist could create illusions.
"If you are Cassie, then where is Scarlet?" Flint questioned Cassie, seeking proof of her identity.
"I can't summon Scarlet right now. She is busy connecting me in your subconscious!" Cassie retorted. "Seriously, Flint?! You are still suspicious of me!" Cassie snarled at him, feeling annoyed.
"Indeed! Love is blind! You can't see through her lie… you are denying the truth that the Ella here is just an illusion!" Cassie was furious, and at the same time, feeling jealous.
Flint didn't let go of Cassie's hand. He was afraid that once he let go, Cassie would attack Ella once again. He couldn't bear to see Ella being hurt… even if she was just an illusion. "
Don't hurt her." Flint requested.
"Flint… do you trust me or not?! Let go of my hand now." Cassie could no longer take this. Flint was still trying to protect the impostor.
But Flint was so stubborn. He shook his head, holding Cassie tightly. Cassie, on the other hand, was losing her patience. She was hurt and insulted because she thought Flint didn't trust her. He chose to believe Ella, instead of her.
'I am a masochist. He kept on hurting my feelings over and over again, but still, here I am trying my best to save and protect him…' Cassie smiled bitterly at that thought.
Heaving a sigh of defeat, Cassie pulled out her dagger. This was a dagger she got from the cave… her grandfather and grandmother's former house. She took it as a remembrance.
Flint glanced at Cassie when she showed her dagger. 'Is she going to stab me?'
But to his surprise, Cassie offered the dagger to him. "Fine! Take this. Since you don't trust me, I am giving you the power to hurt me. I swear, I will never hurt you."
"What do you mean?" Flint asked her in confusion.
"In three seconds, I will attack that woman using my fireball. If you don't want that to happen and you decide to protect her… then go. Stab me with that dagger. Bury the tip into my chest! Kill me!" Cassie was forcing Flint to choose whom he wanted to save between them.
If Flint chose to protect that impostor Ella from Cassie, then he had to make a choice and stab Cassie. Cassie made one last attempt to test Flint's feelings for her. 'Do I not matter to him? Doesn't he care about me at all?'
Her heartbreak was more painful than a stab in her chest. She was also thinking of letting go and giving up on Flint if he decided to stab her. This would serve as her wake-up call.
Flint was now holding the dagger. He was still uncertain about his decision. He darted his gaze back and forth between Cassie and Ella.
"One…"
Cassie started counting.
"Flint! Stab her! Stay away from her and just save yourself… She is trying to confuse you. Don't get deceived by her," Ella warned him.
"Two.." A fireball resurfaced from her palm. All she had to do was throw it to Ella.
From her peripheral vision, Cassie saw Flint raising the dagger in his hand. Cassie could only close her eyes and waited for the sharp object to be buried in her chest.
'Damn it! I am just nothing to him…' The dagger hadn't reached her heart yet but she was already bleeding.
Slash!
Drop!
Before Cassie could realize what happened, she was thrown out of his subconscious.
"Master! Master! Are you okay?" Scarlet's worried voice could be heard. Cassie was back and got disconnected from Flint's subconscious.
'What happened? Did he really stab me?' Cassie felt horrible deep inside. She wanted to cry. Before she knew it, her tears began to fall from the corners of her eyes. She was now sobbing… in front of Scarlet.
"Master… don't cry… You did your best."
