Chapter 944 944: Disappearance in Border of Mist
Flint and Cassie passed through the portal together with Scarlet. They were now traversing in the border of mist. The surroundings were filled with fog. They could barely see the way through the mist. Scarlet's fire was their source of light as the place was so dark.
In the sacred place, there was no such thing as day and night. It was different from the world of the guardians. It was like a different dimension. And only a few could enter this place.
The ancestors of the guardian warriors discovered this place a long time ago. Through their journey to the sacred place, they gained supernatural powers in this place.
"Why are we not running?" Flint asked Scarlet who was only walking at this moment.
"Shhhhh! The border of mist was a quiet place. If I run here, my steps would create a loud sound that would disturb the place. The border of mist will become more dangerous for us if we create a sound." Scarlet explained to Flint in a low voice.
Cassie and Flint were still riding Scarlet's back as she was still in her fox form. Cassie was throwing fireballs ahead to create a pathway illuminated by its fire.
"Why do I feel like a monster will pop up here any time?" Cassie also made a comment as she assessed the surroundings.
The deafening silence was frightening. She felt like a monster was hiding in the mist.
"Master, it is also possible. Monsters from the dark forest may get lost here or visit the border of mist since the two borders are nearby each other. Furthermore, it has been so long since the last time I set foot here together with my former master, your grandfather."
Flint didn't want to admit it but his heart was drumming inside his chest. The silence made the place so eerie. And for some unknown reason, he could feel the chill running down his spine as he assessed the surroundings.
'What if Scarlet's words are right? A scary monster might suddenly appear. Can I fight them? I only see monsters in movies… not a real one…' Flint was having a monologue inside his mind. But he was trying to look calm outside.
However, Cassie could feel his anxiousness, along with his tensed body. She couldn't help but smile. "Flint, are you scared? Just hold me tight!" She teased him.
"Of course not! I'm not scared!" Flint denied it blatantly. He loosened his grip on her body. He didn't want Cassie to think that he was a coward. Though this place was unfamiliar to him and filled with creatures and magics, he was still a man. And a man shouldn't show fear in front of a woman.
Cassie let out a soft giggle and said, "Relax. I'm just kidding. Don't get so riled up."
Flint just glared at her. He decided not to hold her waist but Cassie didn't want him to let go. "Grab me. The fog is getting thicker and thicker by the second."
Flint also noticed it. The fog became thicker, giving them zero visibility. They were just relying on Scarlet's sense of direction. With her fire eyes, she could still have a clear vision that could see through this mist.
"Master, the fireballs are getting extinguished fast. The cold air is putting out our fireballs. It looks like the light coming from our fireball is disturbing the silence of this place. It is now releasing more fog." Scarlet had a bad feeling about this. She could sense danger coming their way.
"What do you suggest, Scarlet?" Cassie consulted her.
"I suggest that we took a break first," Scarlet said.
"I don't think that is a good idea. We need to leave this place as soon as possible. I feel like we are blind here. We can't see anything," Flint suggested. The temperature kept dropping low. He felt so cold now.
If they stayed there he felt like he would be frozen to death.
Unlike Cassie who has fire power, Flint couldn't warm himself. He had to rely on Cassie. But he was too embarrassed to say it out loud. And now, Scarlet was suggesting taking a break and staying on their spot for the meantime. He might die from hypothermia.
"Flint, are you cold? Your body is trembling," Cassie finally noticed it.
"I'm just fine…" Flint lied.
"Why don't you move closer to me? Hug me because I feel cold!" Cassie commanded him. She could tell that Flint was just enduring it. 'You are not a good liar. What a prideful man!' Cassie lamented to herself. She felt a little bit annoyed since Flint didn't want to come closer to her as if he was avoiding her.
"I don't have a skin disease," Cassie added.
"I know… I'm fine. I can manage." Flint stubbornly said.
"But once we reach the Dark forest, we can no longer take a rest. Dark Forest is more dangerous than here. Lots of monsters are hiding there," Scarlet reasoned out with them.
Flint and Cassie exchanged glances with one another. Scarlet had a point. Besides, Scarlet had been running for a while now while carrying them on her back. She needed to rest to recover her strength. They might encounter monsters and they had to engage in a fight. Scarlet needed to be in good condition to fight several monsters at once.
Thinking about Scarlet, Flint and Cassie finally agreed to take a rest first before they continued their journey. "I brought food. Let's eat first."
The two of them got off Scarlet's back. They sat on the ground and prepared the food. Cassie packed some food. It was the remaining wild boar meat last night.
"Let's dig in." Flint started to eat. Scarlet remained on high alert as she watched the surroundings. She let the two enjoy their meal. After fifteen minutes, Cassie and Flint finished eating.
"Gosh… I feel like I have to pee." Cassie murmured. She glanced at Flint and Scarlet. "Scarlet, stay here and watch over Flint. I will just go somewhere.
"Where are you going? You have to stick with us, remember?" Flint grabbed her elbow.
"I have to pee." Cassie promptly responded. "Do you want me to do my stuff here?"
Flint's cheeks reddened as he imagined it. "N-No…Cough! Go ahead. But don't go too far."
"Don't worry. I can protect myself. Ciao!" Cassie left immediately. The cold temperature was making it worst.
Flint could only watch her worriedly. For some unknown reason, he didn't want to get separated from Cassie. But Cassie had to pee somewhere. Sigh. He just hoped she would return right away.
"I can see her from our spot. I will watch her so just calm down," Scarlet reassured Flint.
Five minutes later, Cassie hadn't returned yet. And Flint was feeling so cold. He was trembling already. 'Ahh! Where is Cassie? What took her so long?'
"Scarlet… Why don't you fetch your master? Is she not done yet?" Flint asked Scarlet who was standing next to him. Scarlet's eyes were fixed in the direction where Cassie disappeared to.
"Scarlet?" Flint called her out once more since she didn't respond. Flint frowned further since Scarlet didn't say a word. He was about to touch her when suddenly, she disappeared like a bubble.
"Huh?! SCARLET?"
