Chapter 557: Almost Routed (Bonus)
The moment they were done with the arrangement, Nathan immediately led the rest of the army to head to the last group, wondering what was happening for them not being able to come.
Even if they were injured, they should have some people to deliver a message even though it was dangerous.
And what they found was an empty field. They first found the trace of the fight from the sky and checked it personally.
Looking at the number of corpses, there should be a big battle happening in this place.
They realized that at least three hundred people had died here while the enemies lost about a thousand aliens.
However, they didn't find a single mature class or warrior class alien among the corpses, which made it suspicious.
"This is weird…" The minister frowned. "Do they disappear? Return to the tunnel? Doesn't seem like it."
"Yeah." Nathan raised his head, staring at a huge trail left behind by those people and aliens. The trail was so huge, so there was no way they wouldn't find it.
"Maybe they're still fighting against them?" The minister speculated.
"Most likely. They must break their formation and head… Does this direction have a base or something?" Nathan asked.
"Hmm…" The minister glanced at his side.
The old captain nodded his head. "Yes, sir. There should be a base in that direction. I'm not sure about the distance, but it should be quite long… approximately one or two hours of marching? Looking at the situation, it seemed they were being chased by the aliens."
"That doesn't sound good. If they marched for so long, they would be slaughtered left and right." The minister clicked his tongue.
"In that case, we shouldn't leave behind any soldiers here, believing that there might be some aliens in this area. Since the situation is unknown, it's better to reconquer this place later after we learn the entire situation from them," suggested Nathan.
"Good enough. Let's go."
They hurriedly followed the trail, wondering what had happened in this place. They could find a lot of corpses along the way, which made them worry.
They didn't know how many casualties this group suffered, but Nathan expected close to two thousand soldiers, if not more. It would be better if the group was actually not wiped out by the enemies.
That was why they had to pick up their pace. As mentioned, they found a base one hour away from their location, which was currently under siege.
It looked like the trail was leading to this base.
The minister couldn't help but narrow his eyes. There were mountains of corpses on the outside. The blood had formed rivers and pools, which made the blood smell worse around the area.
The situation was actually much worse than they originally thought.
They could see several summoners fighting against the aliens, especially the mature class and warrior class aliens.
However, there was a limit to how many aliens they could handle.
Although they wanted to rush right away to help them, both Nathan and the minister had to remain calm.
"There are a lot of corpses, but I assume there are a few warrior class aliens already dying on this battlefield. The problem is that there are still 4 warrior class aliens left.
"The rest of the aliens are suspected to be about 5,000 aliens. If we count the corpses we saw along the way, I'm assuming they were attacked by at least 7 or 8 warrior class aliens as well as 15,000 lower-level aliens."
Nathan's expression turned solemn. On the one hand, the urge to summon Anubis to help them was strong. On the other hand, giving more ena to Anubis might end up causing him to lose so much ena that he can't do anything else after completing this mission.
The other option was to let Anubis recover for a day, which should be enough for Anubis to recover a portion of his strength. But this would mean he couldn't save a lot of soldiers.
Nathan scratched the back of his head. "You better reward me with more cores since I have to overwork my familiar, who has exhausted his ena. We have lost too many soldiers, so it's better to keep whatever we have right now."
"…" The minister looked shocked. He thought it would be over when a familiar exhausted their ena. After all, they wouldn't be able to use their abilities anymore.
But it appeared Nathan still had a way to let Anubis use his ability even though he had exhausted his ena. And this kind of ability must come from a price that would be paid by Nathan or Anubis himself.
However, the minister misunderstood how high the price that Nathan planned to pay was. He thought it would be something like a lifespan or something even more precious. That was why he swore to reward him more, even if it meant taking his own portion.
After all, he could see the sincere care from Nathan when he gave things he didn't have anymore.
Nathan didn't realize at that time that his reward would actually become much larger than anything he imagined.
"So, how are we going to attack them? Should we split them?"
"I can see that the remaining warrior class aliens are being occupied right now by their respective opponents. It doesn't seem they're going to lose anytime soon. I believe we should focus on one side at a time and eliminate them in rapid succession.
"By doing so, I can also sneak into their places and heal them by going in the opposite directions. Fortunately, the fort looks strong enough," explained Nathan.
The war minister nodded in agreement. "Then we'll do just that. I will lead the charge. Since my power is the strongest, I will take care of the warrior class aliens. Your group will focus on the mature class aliens and the rest. The soldiers will enter the fort and have them reinforce the wall. Have Her Highness Flora handle the diplomacy… not that they'll refuse since they have taken in the first commander."
