Chapter 1076: Desperate Times
Ethan abruptly opened his eyes and found himself lying on the floor.
He had fallen off from the bed, and the sound of it woke Nicole from her slumber.
The young lady was about to tease the young man when she saw his serious expression. She held her tongue back, feeling that something might have happened to him.
"What's wrong?" Nicole asked. "You look very pale."
"Lily," Ethan said through gritted teeth. "Progenitors kidnapped Lily!"
"What?" Nicole, who thought that maybe Ethan had just had a bad dream, helped him up from the floor.
The young man took a few deep breaths in order to calm his raging emotions down. He hoped that what he saw was just a dream, but a part of him already knew that it was all real.
That wasn't the first time he experienced Astral Projection, and the events that happened whenever he was in that state were all real.
"Nicole, I'm sorry. But please, let's hurry back to the academy," Ethan said in a serious tone.
If what he saw was real, then he would need Emma's help in order to unlock his powers to their peak.
It no longer mattered even if Progenitors were to know of his existence.
What he needed right now was power strong enough to save his wife.
Lilith, who was always hiding in Ethan's shadow, could feel the anger, frustration, and despair that was emanating from Ethan's body.
Being bonded through his shadow allowed her to feel all of his emotions. So, she could tell that Ethan was in a state of panic despite the fact that he tried his best to remain calm on the surface.
"Understood." Nicole nodded. "Let's return to the academy."
It was still dark outside, but Ethan had no plans of waiting until the morning to travel.
After returning Nicole's Origin Crystal, he could no longer generate his own magic. However, he had enough Magic Crystals to power up the Wind Dancer and force it to fly at great speeds.
Nicole sat behind Ethan as the Wind Dancer took off in the air and vanished into the night.
Frustrated at the speed of the Wind Dancer, thinking it wasn't enough, he asked Nicole to cast a spell for them.
"Nicole, create a wind barrier," Ethan said. "I will increase Wind Dancer's speed to its limit."
The young lady nodded and chanted a spell to protect themselves from the wind pressure that one could feel when they were traveling at high speeds.
As soon as the spell was cast, Ethan cranked up the absorption of the Magic Crystal, which made the Wind Dancer fly three times faster.
Although it would burn up the Magic Crystal faster than the norm, Ethan didn't need to worry because he had plenty of reserves.
The most important thing right now was to arrive at the academy and confirm whether what he saw was real or not.
Although he could have traveled directly to Southshire, Ethan deemed that going there right now was useless.
Regardless if what he had seen had happened or not, he would still need to travel to Brynhildr Academy to meet Emma.
It would further delay his plan to save Lily from the Progenitors that belonged to Erra's Faction, but it was better than saving her unprepared.
Sending how tense Ethan was, Nicole held onto him tightly.
'Baradiel,' Nicole said. 'If the Progenitors really captured Lily, I want you to help me rescue her.'
'… It will not be easy,' Baradiel replied. 'Are you prepared to die for her?'
'Yes,' Nicole answered firmly. 'If something happens to her, Ethan would be heartbroken.'
Baradiel didn't answer right away. However, if she wanted Nicole and Ethan to grant her request, it would be best that she did him a favor first.
'Very well, I will help. But remember this,' Baradiel stated. 'I will prioritize your safety over Lily's.'

'Thank you,' Nicole knew that Baradiel wasn't at her peak power at the moment. However, the latter would still be able to tap into the raw power of a Progenitor, which was superior to other Progenitors of the same rank.
If the battle did not become a battle of attrition, Nicole was confident that she would be able to defeat a Progenitor as long as she took them by surprise.
While Ethan was traveling at full speed toward the academy, Seff was busy commanding his people to help the injured, as well as gather those who had died in battle.
Even though the invasion didn't last for a long time, the sheer number of the monsters that attacked his domain numbered in the tens of thousands.
Fortunately, despite the casualties, the death count didn't surpass a hundred.
This made Seff assume that the Progenitors didn't order their army to conduct a massacre.
If they did, he was certain that the numbers of the dead would number in the thousands, which would have been a devastating blow to his people.
'Damn it!' Seff clenched his teeth in anger.
His frustration was justified. He might have reached the peak of being a mortal, but his enemies were simply two grades higher than him.
Had his opponent been a Colossi, he was confident that he would have managed as long as he used the forbidden bloodline skill of the Beastkins.
But since he was up against a Progenitor, he would only be throwing his life away even if he used everything in his arsenal to fight them.
Lily's mother, Leah, was crying silently because she knew that everyone in their family had tried their best to protect her daughter.
Two of Seff's wives were even seriously injured by Tiruru when they tried to protect Lily from the Progenitor who had come to kidnap her.
Lady Catherine, despite her injuries, hugged Leah tightly.
As a mother, she could truly understand the pain of losing her child. She had already used her artifact to contact her husband and tell him that their daughter-in-law had been captured by the Plague Faction.
However, he must not be able to reply at the moment due to the great battle taking place in the Lands of Saraqael after the Defenders of Midgard were attacked in different locations at the same time.
Truth be told, the other Invaders had used this opportunity to descend upon Midgard.
Even now, a great battle was happening in the Milesian Kingdom, where countless Minotaurs started to rampage across their territory.
If not for the fact that King Arawn and the Fomorians had stopped in the Milesian Kingdom to stay for a few days, the invaders might have managed to erase the Capital City of Cashel from the face of the world.
The Kings and Queens of the Shire Continent, who had also received the distress message from Southshire, mobilized their forces and sent their fastest regiments to go to Seff's territory in order to help them during this critical time.
However, since they were a distance away, it would still take them two days before they arrived at their destination, even with the use of the Teleportation Gates.
Right now, the entire world, including the Lands of Saraqael, was in chaos.
The Defenders of Midgard were hard-pressed to hold the line of defense and keep the enemies at bay.
Their cunning enemies were quick to take advantage of any opportunity to hit them hard where it hurt the most.
While all of this was happening, two little girls opened their eyes from their afternoon nap.
"Cinnamon, it finally happened," Maple said calmly.
"Yes," Cinnamon replied sadly.
The twins then held each other's hands and moved their free hands in a circular motion.
Soon, a portal appeared, which would lead them to Midgard.
The two of them would not be able to save their mother-in-law on their own.
Because of this, they would need the help of their father-in-law, who was desperately doing his best to reach Brynhildr Academy as soon as possible so that he could save his wife, whom he held sacred in his heart.
