Chapter 242: Chapter 242: The Level 6 Celestial Behemoth
The remaining tenth of the fleet could be eliminated with a single salvo from the Storm Fleet's primary and secondary cannons—this battle was barely a challenge, and Feng Mo had yet to encounter the rumored Celestial Behemoth researched by the New Humanity Church.
The one they had captured on Beast Roar Prime was now well-fed and thriving under Feng Mo's care. However, due to genetic limitations, it had only reached Level 5 and was a half-finished product at best. Years of experiments in the bio-research lab suggested it only had five years left to live.
Curious about the New Humanity Church's research, Feng Mo wondered if they had managed to create a true Level 6 Celestial Behemoth.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, an alarm echoed through the Vermilion Ape's control room.
"Warning! A Level 6 energy signature has been detected near the primary planet of the New Humanity Church. Awaiting orders!"
Simultaneously, the radar initiated an automated scan, generating a video feed. Feng Mo watched as a colossal, red-furred ape, over three hundred meters tall, launched itself from the planet's surface and aimed directly at the Vermilion Ape.
The creature bore wings on its back, a head and torso resembling a gorilla, and limbs like those of a tiger, complete with razor-sharp claws. Its vibrant red fur was unusually striking. Intrigued, Feng Mo issued his command:
"Prepare the T6 Black Hole-class Annihilation Cannon and T6 Cluster Annihilation Cannons for firing!"
He wanted to test whether this red-furred behemoth could withstand the power of an Annihilation Cannon. Lacking a T6 control chip, Feng Mo knew the creature's fate was already sealed; it would ultimately become nourishment for the Devouring Ancient Tree.
"Annihilation Cannons fully charged, awaiting orders," chimed the electronic voice.
"Target the red-furred ape and fire the T6 Cluster Annihilation Cannon!"
In an instant, a dark beam surged forward, meeting the red-furred ape mid-flight. The creature seemed to sense the danger, releasing a furious roar as it unleashed a dark red energy beam from its massive maw.
The two beams clashed in a violent explosion, sending the creature tumbling back to the planet's surface, where it struggled to stabilize even with its wings.
Watching, Feng Mo shook his head. The red-furred ape might match an ordinary T6 warship, perhaps on par with the Storm Empire's standard T6 design, but it paled in comparison to the Vermilion Ape.
Struck by the cannon's impact, the creature plummeted to the ground, creating a massive crater upon impact. Though initially amused, Feng Mo quickly lost interest.
Just as he was about to give the order to finish it off, he saw the beast rise from the smoke and launch itself back toward the Vermilion Ape. Impressed by its resilience, Feng Mo smiled and issued another command:
"Wait until it reaches the void, then fire the T6 Black Hole-class Annihilation Cannon!"
He wanted to avoid damaging the planet, which would soon be his territory, especially as the radar had detected large underground storages filled with T6 and T5 raw materials, dark matter resources, and dark energy crystals.
The New Humanity Church was clearly wealthy, and the riches gathered here meant that this expedition was already profitable, especially with control over this mid-sized system.
The red-furred ape's wings flared, propelling it like a meteor toward the Vermilion Ape, surpassing even T5 mecha in speed. As it breached the atmosphere and entered the void of space, the Vermilion Ape's primary cannon unleashed a roaring beam.
A red column of energy, focused and swift, pierced the creature. Though its silent roar in the vacuum went unheard, Feng Mo observed the creature's body radiate crimson, its mouth unleashing a powerful beam of its own to counter the Black Hole-class cannon.
However, the beast's effort proved futile. Though its attack was stronger than a T6 Cluster Cannon, it was vastly outmatched by the Black Hole-class Annihilation Cannon.
The creature's beam was obliterated, and the Black Hole-class cannon blasted through its body, leaving it nothing but scattered particles in its wake. The red beam continued through, piercing several asteroids in the nearby belt before dissipating.
Feng Mo winced as he realized his mistake. The red-furred ape was now obliterated, leaving nothing for biological research or even for the Devouring Ancient Tree to consume.
Seeing his exaggerated expression, Xing Shuwen couldn't help but chuckle. While Feng Mo was patient and kind with his subordinates, his thrifty nature was always a source of amusement.
Unknown to Xing Shuwen, Feng Mo's habits had been shaped by his early struggles, when every star credit had to be accounted for, and even Yunshan currency was precious. Old habits, it seemed, died hard.
However, his disappointment soon turned to joy as Xing Shuwen reported the spoils from the New Humanity System. Feng Mo couldn't help but marvel at the sheer wealth of the New Humanity Church—its resources outmatched even those of the Crystal Skeletons' treasure hoard.
Among the plunder, dark matter resources and dark energy crystals filled ten T5 transport ships. T6 and T5 raw materials and rare metals filled an additional forty.
Without delay, Feng Mo issued orders for a twenty-ship escort fleet composed of T5 Sword Dragons and T5 Wolf Kings to return with the loot. He then commanded the Beast Roar Fleet, one of three stationed in the Storm Star System, to depart for the New Humanity System.
Feng Mo did not concern himself with the smaller systems under the New Humanity Church's control. With his forces stretched thin, occupying excessive territory would only spread his defenses too far. Better to consolidate control over the New Humanity System.
While Feng Mo remained cautious, the two other major powers of the Lihuang Sector were anything but. News of the New Humanity Church's defeat at the hands of a fleet of fewer than a hundred ships spread quickly, shaking the sector.
Initially, they struggled to believe the news, but their scouts soon confirmed it. Both factions marked the Storm Fleet as a force not to be trifled with.
