Chapter 134: Cain finally steps in to handle Lucan's protector
Roaring in pain, Old Yan attempted to attack, but Fenix lunged from behind. With one last furious swing, he thrust both knives into Old Yan's back.

Flames erupted from the steel edges, searing flesh in an unholy heat. Old Yan became rigid, his mouth contorting in a mute scream. Poison and shadow flashed around him before dissipating.
Fenix drew a strained breath and ripped his blades free. Old Yan's body crumpled in a heap, with smoke curling from his deep wounds. For a minute, just the crackle of dispersing flames shattered the silence.
Fenix remained standing, but his eyes rolled back, and he dropped to one knee, swords clattering against the rocky ground.
The fiery wings of his rebirth faded out, like a snuffed candle. A ripping fatigue engulfed him, every muscle throbbing with exhaustion. He felt more vulnerable than ever, a direct result of Infernal Rebirth.
Anya approached quickly, stumbling over Old Yan's body. She threw an arm around his shoulders, gently bringing him to the ground to catch his breath. "Fenix!" she exclaimed, voice laced with concern. "Are you all right?"
He attempted to speak, but the words remained in his throat. Instead, he managed a slight nod. The depleting effect of resurrection had thrown him into an exhaustion.
Anya, on the verge of collapse, closed her eyes and let the triple-tailed power fade. The ground was littered with the remains of those who had sought their demise, and while Fenix had died once during the conflict, his [SS+ Rank talent] had saved him from certain death.
The battlefield fell silent, interrupted only by the odd crackle of fading embers.
Both survivors breathed raggedly, hearts pounding with the aftermath of mortal peril. Nearby, the remains of their foes lay motionless, a final testament to the fierce confrontation.
While looking at Fenix and Anya, Cain had been paying attention to Garran and Lucan's protector, as he never had any complete trust in them, even since he always thought of the worst-case possibility all along.
After confirming that they still hadn't made any move, Cain finally let out a long sigh since the worst-case scenario didn't happen.
As he was thinking about something else, Cain was instantly overjoyed since the system notifications that he had been waiting for a while finally came.
However, he was surprised when he saw the last few notifications, as he hadn't expected such things to happen.

When Cain looked at the last notifications, he knitted his eyebrows as he thought about something for a second before looking at Fenix and Anya with a smile.
"Alright, there's only one enemy left. Quit the act and come here, both of you." Cain chuckled as he shook his head, thinking that the reason why both of them had been 'acting' weakly the entire fight was because of his order.
He had told them to fight the six enemies at just enough strength to make those opponents think they still had a chance.
If Anya had shown her true power from the start, the enemies might have burned their blood essence and revealed themselves as wielders of the Dark Demonic Dragon God's bloodline.
Because being the wielder of the Dark Demonic Dragon God's bloodline meant that they were part of the group that attacked people for their bloodline, and revealing this fact was a bad move for Old Yan's group, as this showed that they were one of them.
The reason for that was because they didn't know if Garran or Lucan's forces had a feud with their forces, and he couldn't take the risk of it since it could lead to a disaster for not only them but also the family behind them.
However, in some cases they wouldn't care about the consequence if the benefit was enough to outweigh the risk. Which was why Cain wanted to play it safe and ordered both Fenix and Anya to play it along so that it wouldn't overcomplicate things.
Fortunately, they hadn't shown their true identity and power since it would be quite troublesome for Anya and Fenix, as their strength would be boosted to another level, making the fight bigger and might even force both of them to burn their blood essence too, which Cain didn't want to see.
Especially with Fenix's situation, as his bloodline was of the phoenix's bloodline, and he didn't want to hassle himself looking for a phoenix's blood since he was already extremely busy himself.
…
When everyone heard Cain's words, they were confused since they didn't know what his words meant.
However, when they noticed that Fenix and Anya immediately stood up straight and walked towards Cain casually, they immediately realized what was happening.
"Fenix, can you handle that man?" Cain asked as he glanced at Lucan's protector with a smile.
"Unfortunately, I can't at the moment because the backlash I received from the [Infernal Rebirth] is real. I can still fight a bit, but I'm not in any shape to kill him." Fenix answered while scratching the back of his head since he was ashamed that he couldn't handle someone when he proudly said that he was the strongest.
Sigh!
Cain let out a long sigh as he thought to himself. 'It seems that I still need to handle it by myself.'
