Chapter 833: Loved
Scarlett felt a subtle hint of warmth in her heart after hearing such reassuring words from her son. Although she didn't feel as if she deserved any kindness from him, she graciously took the kindness he had shown her.
She looked at her son with a wistful smile on her lips and softly whispered to him, "Yes, you are here now. My beautiful son." She lovingly looked at his eyes when she said that, suggesting that she wasn't afraid of his eyes anymore. After all, all she saw in those eyes at the moment was kindness, an emotion that Reginald had never shown.
Suddenly, Scarlett realized that she didn't even know her son's name. She felt a little ashamed for not asking his name until now. "Umm…" She took a deep breath, wiped her tears, and then curiously looked at her son. "I never asked you your name." Stay tuned with My Virtual Library Empire
"Ah!" It finally dawned upon Kenneth that he hadn't properly introduced himself to Scarlett. After all, he was too eager to listen to her side of the story. "I'm sorry for forgetting my manners."
Although he didn't need to, he gently bowed his head and formally introduced himself to Scarlett. "I am Kenneth, son of King Walter and Queen Florence. And I am the current Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Brenalia."
"You are a Crown Prince…" Scarlett's eyes widened with shock, a rather pleasant shock.
From the way the two young lads were dressed in exquisite clothes, she had already assumed that her son was adopted by a well-off noble family. But to think he was adopted by the King of a prominent Kingdom, she couldn't be any happier about how things turned out for her son.
And on top of that, they had instated him as the Crown Prince. It told her what she needed to know. 'My son is loved.' She closed her eyes and thanked God for protecting her son and somehow leading him to them.
"What are your parents like? They must love you and adore you, right?" She asked, just to reconfirm what was already in her mind.
Just like she had thought, Kenneth nodded his head and said with a polite smile, "Yes, they do love me, especially my mother. She never once made me feel that I wasn't her blood." His smile became wider when he recalled how she had fought for him even when everyone else had branded him as a monster.
Scarlett also smiled along with Kenneth, feeling thankful as well as indebted towards the woman who had raised Kenneth as her own. "I'm very glad to hear that. She must be an angel sent from heaven to protect you."
'I don't think she is an angel. She looked like a normal human to me.' Damien frowned in confusion and thought to himself, not realizing that Scarlett was speaking metaphorically.
Scarlett turned to focus her attention on Damien and asked to make him feel included, "While we are doing the introduction, may I also know your good name?" As her son turned out to be a Crown Prince, she was sure that her son's friend was also of high status. So, she didn't want to make him feel ignored or unintentionally come off as rude.
Damien quickly gave a smile to Scarlett and gave his introduction. "I am Damien, son of Lilith." Damien had heard how Kenneth had introduced himself and went with the flow, mentioning his mother's name in the process.
"L-Lilith?!" Scarlett's eyes widened once again, this time more with fear rather than shock. She looked so petrified upon hearing that name, the name of the fearsome demoness whom she had accidentally encountered once in the past while she was in Mihir, that all colors from her face faded in an instant.
'Oh, Hell! I shouldn't have said her name!' Damien silently scolded himself when he saw the fear in Scarlett's eyes.
Scarlett suddenly felt as if she was in the presence of Lilith herself. She started to sweat profusely and even began to shake. "You d-don't mean the d-demoness Lilith, right?" Her eyes were screaming at Damien to deny her statement.
However, Damien confirmed her fear instead. "That would be my mother. I am a half-demon."
Scarlett inhaled sharply and subconsciously fumbled backward in panic. She would have fallen from the stool if Kenneth hadn't grabbed her arm in time.
"You don't have to be scared. He is harmless." Kenneth tried to calm Scarlett down but to no avail. He could feel her whole body trembling violently.
Every organ in Scarlett's body was screaming at her to run away from the room. If Kenneth wasn't in the same room right now, she would have already screamed at the top of her lungs and ran outside.
Damien could see how disturbed her aura was and said while giving an apologetic look to Kenneth for spooking Scarlett, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. And I definitely won't hurt you in any way."
Scarlett took a big dry gulp and tried to control her body from shaking and her mind and heart from being shaken. However, even when she knew that she was being rude to her guest, she couldn't regain her composure right away.
"I'm… I'm sorry." She lowered her head to avoid making eye contact with Damien and said, "I had met your mother once. She looked so ferocious that I can't help but be scared even now."
Damien let out an awkward laugh and mumbled, "Yes, she does look ferocious. Almost every demons are scared of her so it's natural for humans to be terrified of her."
'Almost every demon? Just how many demons are there? And where do they live?' A lot of questions swirled in Scarlett's mind. She didn't dare to ask them though. She didn't need to know. 'The less I know, the better.'
However, to calm herself though, she wrapped her arms around her shoulders and asked, "How come you two are friends? How did you two meet?"
Kenneth and Damien exchanged a wary look with each other as they had started on the wrong foot.
After a short while, Kenneth finally smiled and simply said, "We have a common friend. Actually, we have a lot of common friends. We met on a trip recently."
He looked at Damien and also added while grabbing Damien's shoulder, "And I just found out that he is my half-brother."
Scarlett had heard some rumors saying how Reginald had impregnated Lilith. At that time, she had dismissed it as just baseless rumors but it looked like they were true.
"That's…" She looked at how the two boys were looking at each other, with eyes full of future expectations she thought, and finally smiled again. "…that's wonderful."
