Shattered Destiny : Fate

Chapter 3: A Lingering Mystery

The hospital room buzzed with panic as nurses rushed to Teo's side. He lay motionless, his breath faint, slipping away like sand through fingers. Confusion rippled through the room—how could this be? Teo was just a boy, and yet, as his life ebbed, his grandfather, who had been moments from death, grew stronger.

The once feeble old man now stirred with newfound vitality, his limbs regaining strength, his frail body rejuvenated in a way no one could comprehend. The doctors and nurses were frantic, their efforts to revive Teo relentless, but nothing they did could turn the tide. He was gone.

Agnes, frozen in disbelief, could barely grasp what had just happened. Her son had died, but why? Her father, who moments ago had been at death's door, now stood tall, almost as if life had swapped between them. "Where is my son?" she cried, her voice breaking through the chaos, but there was no answer—only silence.

Grandpa stood in stunned disbelief, his body strong but his heart burdened with guilt. He had been ready to leave this world, yet here he was, standing in the place of his grandson. He couldn't explain it, not to the doctors, not to Agnes, not even to himself. Something unexplainable had occurred, and no one knew how to feel—grief for Teo or relief for the old man who lived.

Three years passed, and the strange occurrence that day still lingered like an unresolved shadow over the family. Life had resumed its usual rhythm, but the mystery of what had happened to Teo haunted them.

Agnes gave birth to another son during that time, and the child was a startling reminder of Teo. He bore an uncanny resemblance to his brother, but there was something different about him—a spark, a better version. As the boy grew, Agnes and Emmanuel found some comfort in the thought that, perhaps, Teo hadn't left them entirely. It was as though his presence lived on in this new life, watching over them in ways they couldn't understand.

The pain of Teo's loss never truly left them, but the birth of their new son brought a glimmer of peace. In the boy's laughter and innocence, they saw pieces of Teo, reminding them that life, in its own mysterious way, continues—even when its course is inexplicable. Yet, the lingering question remained unanswered: What really happened that day?

Perhaps, they thought, Teo had made his own sacrifice.
