Chapter 34
“Master, thank you for your hard work.”
As night fell, I returned to The World.
“I’m exhausted since I did something I’m not used to.”
I continued to leave the security in Eve’s hands. Roberto had invited me to his tent, but I couldn’t bring myself to join them all the way.
“By the way, it’s gotten pretty spacious, hasn’t it?”
The room had expanded significantly compared to the morning. It was thanks to the magic core I used from the monsters that Kaiser fed on.
“Monsters truly are a blessing. They’re so tasty, I wonder if we could get some more?”
According to Eve, D-rank monsters were practically just food to her. Normally, they would be dangerous, but…
“Queek.”
“Oh, Kaiser, you’re exhausted too. You did great today.”
I embraced Kaiser, who jumped into the room, and petted him. Then I cast Clean to help him shake off the fatigue of the day.
“Queek, queek.”
He seemed happy. After a little more attention, he returned to his nest in the space I’d set up for him in the fields. Looks like he’s going to sleep tonight.
“Eve, I want to see the cold storage.”
“Yes. It’s over here.”
I followed her guidance.
“We store the monsters we’ve hunted here after draining their blood to keep them fresh.”
Passing through a single door, the temperature dropped sharply.
This was a storage area inside the room, where the temperature was lowered to prevent the monster corpses from spoiling.
“Wow, you’ve hunted quite a few, haven’t you?”
There must have been an overwhelming number of monsters in this area, because even though we’d spent time on an uninhabited island, this was the largest haul I’d had so far.
“We could dismantle them, but based on your knowledge, Master, there are some unclear parts about that.”
Eve could access my knowledge. So, although I’d had some experience in dissecting small animals, apparently, dismantling higher-rank monsters was still difficult.
“Well, once we get back to the town, I’ll put in a request.”
There were specialists for dismantling monsters.
Since we were preserving them by refrigeration, there was no need to rush processing them. It was more efficient to leave such work to the professionals.
I started feeling a bit cold, so I finished my inspection and decided to leave the cold storage.
“Well, it’s about time to sleep.”
I had nothing else to do now, so I thought I’d get some rest, even though it was a bit early.
After changing clothes, I began to lay them on the table before lying down in bed…
“Master, what’s that?!”
Eve’s voice sounded alarmed as she noticed something.
“Hm? What’s that?”
“That pendant! What’s that?!”
Eve was interested in the pendant I had received from Roberto.
“Oh, that? I got it from Roberto earlier. He said it’s some kind of good luck charm.”
It was supposed to be a lucky charm that would bring good fortune, I think? As I wondered whether Eve would even care about something so superstitious…
“That’s… a core!”
“What?!”
I couldn’t help but express my surprise.
“Master, show it to me quickly!”
Eve urged me, and so I held the pendant up once more. Indeed, it seemed to exude some kind of power…
“Are dungeon cores usually this small?”
The larger a core is, the higher the rank it tends to be, I thought. But this one was just about the size of a small, special core stone.
“Generally, yes, but this core feels unusually dense.”
Eve’s words made me more excited. Could this be a powerful core after all?
I placed the pendant on its stand as Eve instructed, waiting for her appraisal.
“Just as I thought, it’s a core. This is the most powerful core we currently possess.”
She paused for a moment. It seemed like she was beginning to analyze it in depth.
“Master, I understand now.”
After a while, Eve finally spoke up.
“So, what kind of core is it?”
Impatient to hear her findings, I asked.
“Yes, the power of this core is Illusion.”
“…Illusion?”
I was confused by the name, unable to fully grasp what it meant.
