Chapter 26: Trial Version Talk no Jutsu
Uchiha Tatsumi's voice rang from the battle stage, though it was impossible to pinpoint its origin.
"What an amazing technique," murmured a spectator.
"Is this the real strength of Uchiha Tatsumi?" the audience buzzed with excitement.
"Nawaki, do you understand Tatsumi's Ninjutsu?" Minato asked gently.
"Huh? Me? Of course, I understand. I saw the principle of his Ninjutsu at a glance. What, Minato, do I need to explain it to you?" Nawaki replied, trying to mask his uncertainty.
Minato chuckled, "Ah ha ha, you don't need to explain it. I think I understand it too."
"This is the final blow, Hyuga Himeji," Tatsumi's voice echoed once more.
Hyuga Himeji's expression grew solemn. Shadow Clone? Or is it something more? How is this possible? she wondered, sensing the power in Tatsumi's technique.
Tatsumi spun rapidly in the sky, launching a fierce kick with his right foot. Himeji, unable to resist, was sent flying through the air. Four Uchiha Tatsumi clones charged simultaneously.
"Eight-Trigrams Palm Revolving Heaven...!" Himeji attempted to use her technique, but her Chakra was insufficient, and she couldn't complete it.
"Uchiha Lion Bombs!" Tatsumi's attack struck with devastating force.
"Boom!" Himeji crashed onto the soil platform like a shooting star, leaving the surroundings in absolute silence.
"Himeji, I don't know what you want to prove," Tatsumi spoke softly, approaching her. "However, for us ninja, recognition isn't achieved by defeating others. If you want to be recognized, the first step is acknowledging your own existence."
"Have I really been going about things the wrong way?" Himeji muttered, struggling to her feet. "I've struggled so long and won so many fights yet..."
"Ninja are often forced to make cruel choices. For Shindo, one thousand ordinary people can come up with one answer, and one person can give one thousand answers. If you want to change everything, then grow up. Don't continue this way, Himeji," Tatsumi advised, extending his hand.
Himeji hesitated before accepting his help, and they exchanged a Unison Sign.
Tatsumi shook his Uchiha brand windbreaker and walked away with a confident stride.
"Wow, Tatsumi, that was a great match!" Mikoto exclaimed, running over.
Tatsumi smiled slightly. Though his Talk no Jutsu skills weren't on Naruto's level, they didn't need to be. He wasn't targeting anyone specifically—just making a point.
"This time, Uchiha Tatsumi is the victor," Orochimaru's low voice announced.
"Do your words truly reflect your mind? It's really interesting. The orphan of Uchiha Kagami," Orochimaru mused with interest.
Hyuga Hizashi quickly arrived at the training stadium, checking on Himeji. He sighed in relief when he found that she was merely exhausted, without any mortal danger.
In the last blow, Tatsumi had seemed to hold back his strength.
"Tatsumi, wasn't that a bit harsh on a girl?" Nawaki interjected, standing on the moral high ground.
"Using all my strength is also a sign of respect for the opponent, right, Nawaki?" Tatsumi replied lightly. "Otherwise, when I fight you in the future, I could say I didn't use my full strength, and you would fall. How about that?"
"Uh, no, please, spare me," Nawaki immediately backtracked. He couldn't afford to lose face as Konoha's second genius.
"Tatsumi, your Taijutsu is incredibly powerful. How come I've never seen you use it before?" Nawaki inquired.
"The speed and strength just now aren't what an Academy student should possess," Minato added, curious.
Minato, the "Little Sun" with golden hair, looked up expectantly.
Uchiha Tatsumi placed a reassuring hand on Minato's shoulder. "Excellence comes with its own set of troubles, Minato. When you possess power, you risk isolation and arrogance, even if you start with the best intentions. You understand that, don't you?"
Minato's face tightened with confusion. I don't understand anything, he thought.
Tatsumi inwardly awarded himself full marks for his pretentious wisdom. It seems my pretentiousness will surpass Sasuke's sooner or later.
"Yes, I understand," Nawaki chimed in, nodding earnestly. "I often face this trouble too. Sometimes, I don't know how to relate to others. Being too good isn't always beneficial, is it?"
How come you are everywhere! Tatsumi mused, noting Nawaki's top-notch fashion sense.
"Second stage, please step forward," Orochimaru's hoarse voice announced.
"Minato, don't let up if you want to make it to the end," Tatsumi encouraged.
"Hmm, I won't," Minato replied with a silly smile.
As Namikaze Minato and Shimura Kura took their positions in the ring, Orochimaru began the match with a raspy voice. "Let the battle begin!"
Tatsumi knew Minato's fighting strength at this stage. Besides the standard Academy Three-Style Jutsu, Minato had several C-Rank Wind-Style Ninjutsu techniques that Tatsumi had taught him during practice.
Shimura Kura, from the Shimura Clan, specialised in Wind-Style Ninjutsu. With both opponents wielding Wind-Style, their techniques would have a limited effect on each other. Their skill and adaptability would decide the outcome.
"Shimura Kura, please guide me," Minato said respectfully.
"Namikaze Minato, please teach me, Senpai," Kura replied, reaching into his holster.
Minato swiftly threw a few shuriken at tricky angles, aiming to test his opponent.
To Minato's surprise, his shuriken interrupted Kura's preparations. Shimura Kura, impaled by the shuriken, vanished in a puff of smoke, replaced by a piece of wood.
So fast! Minato thought, recognizing the Body Substitution Jutsu. He quickly turned to see Kura attacking from behind.
Shimura Kura's wrist twisted, kunai flashing to Minato's throat in an instant. Minato flipped away, avoiding the strike, and threw a kunai back at Kura, forcing him to retreat.
The two stared each other down with steely determination, having recognized the seriousness of the battle. Kura hadn't expected a commoner ninja to pose such a challenge.
"Huh!" Kura huffed as they clashed again. Their duel was fierce, the sound of kunai colliding filling the air. The two fighters moved so swiftly their silhouettes blurred, dazzling the onlookers.
"Minato, keep it up!" cheered the spectators.
"Shimura Kura, defeat him!" others yelled, rooting for their favourite.
