Chapter 25: A Battlefield Apparition Returns
At this time, Uchiha Tatsumi wore a weary expression as he dily-dallied to draw his number. For him, every additional second counted, as the end of this event brought a fear akin to facing death. When he finally glanced at his number, it read Number One.
Turning to Mikoto, he asked, "Mikoto, what is your number?"
"I am number three," she replied.
"And Minato?"
"I am number two," Minato answered.
Three people, three different numbers. Was there some hidden agenda? Who knew.
Uchiha Tatsumi adjusted his Uchiha-branded windbreaker and slowly walked up to the stage, his heroic appearance slowly coming into view.
A handsome face. A powerful posture. Deadly in action. Desperately strong in battle.
"Hit Uchiha Tatsumi, that trash! Long live Himeji Hime!" a boy shouted from the audience.
"Pay me back for wasting my handsome entrance!" Uchiha Tatsumi instantly became angry, glaring at the boy.
The audience began to riot as it became apparent that Uchiha Tatsumi's opponent was Hyuga Himeji. As the top contender in the two rankings of "most wanting to be her boyfriend" and "most wanting to be his girlfriend," their popularity was almost equal. No, in fact, the Himeji cult had more members.
Himeji was an influential figure in the ranking of "the most wanted to be her girlfriend," and many girls admired her. There were even rumours that she had a preference for women.
As the two prepared to fight, Uchiha Tatsumi closely observed Hyuga Himeji. She appeared serene and composed.
She had fair skin, light blue hair cascading down her back, and white pupils as clear as snow. Her expressionless face was as cold as winter.
"Hyuga Himeji, please advise," she said, offering a polite greeting.
This caught Uchiha Tatsumi off guard, but he could see a solemnity in her eyes that he had never seen before.
"Uchiha Tatsumi, I hope to learn much from you, Senior," he responded immediately.
This was a clash between two of the most gifted youngsters of the time, and a collision between two of Konoha's Noble Clans. Uchiha Tatsumi decided not to use his Sharingan. His Genjutsu targeted the five senses, aiming to control the flow of Chakra in his opponent's brain nerve system. However, Hyuga Himeji, with her 360-degree Byakugan, could detect even the slightest movements. If she fell into his Genjutsu, she could disrupt her Chakra flow with her superior control.
Hyuga Himeji's Chakra control, combined with her Byakugan, was undoubtedly above Tatsumi's level. As a user of the Revolving Heaven technique, which required precise Chakra release from the tenketsu, she possessed exceptional control over her Chakra.
Without warning, Himeji threw several shuriken directly at Tatsumi's chest. Shuriken attacks were generally used to probe the opponent, and this was no exception. Immediately after, Himeji rushed forward, ready to exploit the close-range advantage of the Hyuga Clan's Gentle Fist.
Tatsumi took out several kunai from his ninja bag. With a swift wave of his right hand, he sent the kunai flying through the air. He then used his left hand to parry the oncoming shuriken, swiftly blocking them with precision.
By now, Himeji was already close. Tatsumi could clearly see the fine eyelashes on her eyes. She quickly pointed a finger towards him, and Tatsumi moved his left-hand kunai to intercept her arm, but she deftly evaded.
The two engaged in close combat, their movements rapid and precise. The specialization of the Hyuga Clan's Taijutsu was truly remarkable. Tatsumi had been concealing his true Taijutsu strength, but at the Academy's current level, there were only a few who could match him.
Facing Hyuga Himeji, Uchiha Tatsumi suddenly retracted his kunai and launched a powerful kick. Although Himeji blocked it, she was caught off guard and was pushed backwards. Tatsumi immediately put some distance between them.
The kunai that Tatsumi had thrown earlier collided mid-air and arced sharply, hurtling towards Himeji with frightening speed. The kunai throw alone showcased his skill.
"Look at that!" Nawaki exclaimed from the audience, instantly becoming a fan of the impressive throwing technique.
However, Himeji remained calm, her Byakugan had already detected the approaching kunai.
"In front of my Byakugan, none of your actions are hidden," Himeji said softly.
"..." Tatsumi thought to himself, Isn't this a line meant for my Sharingan?
When the kunai reached her, Himeji parried them swiftly with her own kunai. "Clang!" The sound echoed as Tatsumi's attack seemed to have no effect.
"What?!" Himeji's heart skipped a beat as she felt her body numb. Tatsumi had infused his kunai with Lightning-Style, which now coursed through her.
Taking advantage of her paralysis, Tatsumi unleashed a powerful jutsu. "Fire-Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!" he shouted. A massive, exaggerated fireball, filled with intense Chakra, barreled towards Himeji.
Feeling the heat of the Great Fireball, Himeji knew she couldn't perform a hand seal or use Body Substitution Jutsu in time. "Then... Eight-Trigrams Palm Revolving Heaven," she muttered, as several Chakras spewed from her tenketsu, spinning to counter the fireball.
"Worthy of Hyuga," Tatsumi spat out, disappointed that his Fire-Style attack had failed. "There's no time for Ninjutsu to hit people effectively."
After the Revolving Heaven technique ended, Himeji was panting, clearly exhausted. Tsunade had done an excellent job, but it was clear using such a powerful jutsu twice in one day would take a toll on her regardless of injury.
Tatsumi observed Himeji closely. She had been pushing herself hard to prove something, but with such a mindset, survival in the ninja world was impossible. Transformation and growth often required bloodshed, and Himeji was on her path to growth.
Deciding to respect her by showing his true strength, Tatsumi prepared for his final move. "Hyuga Himeji, how far can your Byakugan see? I am looking forward to finding out," he said.
A cloud of light dust rose as multiple clones of Uchiha Tatsumi appeared on the stage. Himeji activated her Byakugan but couldn't distinguish between the real Tatsumi and the clones.
Suddenly, Tatsumi disappeared in a flash. Shua! Orochimaru, watching from the sidelines, was filled with disbelief. He had only seen this move once before—from Uchiha Kagami. Could Tatsumi have learned this ultra-high-speed Jutsu from his father's scroll alone?
Since Himeji couldn't identify the real Tatsumi, she decided to attack each clone. Her fist went through what seemed to be Tatsumi, but it was merely an afterimage.
"Is this... an afterimage?" she wondered, just as the real Tatsumi landed a punch, forcing her backwards.
As she retreated, another Tatsumi approached from behind. Himeji threw a shuriken, but it passed through the figure once again.
Then, Tatsumi jumped and delivered a powerful kick to her abdomen. Himeji couldn't resist any longer. "I am both an entity and not an entity," Tatsumi's voice echoed slowly.
