There were two people sitting in a rather poorly lit office with only a single lantern. An old man looking a little dazedly at the report in front of his face and a young guy relaxedly smoking a cigarette on a sofa not far from him.
And yes, that was me and General Lane. And now the General was a little surprised at such a quick addition to my squad. He was especially surprised when he found out the exact number of Hassans. I even counted them, there were exactly 128 men. And they all count as essentially one person. It's a weird fucking thing to say.
What's interesting is that I had Kirei's command seals transferred into my body, which somehow synchronised with the Hassans. I don't know if it's because they were "connected" to those seals before, or if it's just the fact that they're servants.
The way they were all brought to the base was pretty comical though. Still, I called the General, told him to send a car to some strange abandoned place on the border of Metropolis, with the words that I had found new members of the squad. I'd honestly been surprised myself. Still, you're unlikely to find anyone other than combat junkies or homeless people in that place.
But the soldiers who came after us were definitely surprised by the small army of Hassans that immediately surrounded them. But the Hassans themselves are good at hiding, they don't need to be fed, nor do they need to pay their wages. Although they will still get it, just one for all, because they are considered as one person.
In any case, the Hassans will be the most useful. There are many of them, they can guard my loved ones, patrol the city, or just keep an eye out for dangerous people. Still, almost all of them are impossible to detect without magic or some kind of supertechnology, which humans don't even have.
- Yeah, Ed. I was hoping you'd find new members of the Argent squad soon enough, but this... I didn't expect this," the general said a little tiredly, lighting a cigarette.
- A Japanese schoolgirl war veteran, a Metahuman with good luck powers, a talented inventor who thinks he's a soldier of an intergalactic empire, a genius Hacker, and a Metahuman who split into multiple spy-killer bodies. I don't even have much to say to all of this. And it's even weirder that the most ordinary of them seem to be a hacker and a schoolgirl, though they are still, to put it mildly, extraordinary individuals," Sam began to say, looking at me seriously, "But you realise that our superiors will need a visual test of their abilities... Though you don't even have to be present at it," he stipulated, starting to type something.
- If that's the case, when do you think you'll give them the tests? - I asked him, taking out my second cigarette.
- Hmm, I think we can do it in a couple of days. The Joker's transport is scheduled for five days from now anyway, so they'll be full members of the squad by then... If they pass the tests," Sam said, typing something into the computer again, "Although... Hacker can be added to the squad right away. With his record, he deserves it, and he's not a field agent, so it's okay. The only thing to check is his loyalty.
- Don't worry about loyalty. You could say I saved all of them from very bad situations, so they owe me. Their loyalty shouldn't be in question," I said, fully confident with the system. Although it's not all that clear-cut, their loyalty should be at least higher than that of the random heroes and villains of this world that I'll recruit in the future.
- Hmm, since you say so, I'll trust you. But you need to choose your subordinates carefully, your squad is going to face a lot of enemies in the future, and you need to be very careful, I'd say you could use a little paranoia," he told me as he got off the computer.
- Anyway, where should I put them all for now? - I asked.
- They're almost accepted into the squad, so they can occupy flats in your building. But about these Hassans... I don't know," the general said, a little lost in thought. The situation is not very clear to me either. Of course, they are unlikely to live in their flat, but they also need to rest. Well...
- We could combine the three flats into one, and there would be enough space for them, especially since they would rarely sleep in their own flat... all together," I told him.- Then that's what we'll do, I'll have the local builders do it tomorrow," he told me, continuing his work.
I decided not to bother Sam anymore and left the office. My new subordinates were waiting for me at the base. Gilbert was there just explaining our policy to all of them in more detail....
- All right, guys, I think you've got it all figured out. The rest will come to you during the work, - Gilbert finished when he saw that I came.
- I've solved all the questions on your account. For now, follow me. I'll explain everything on the way," I said, waving to everyone. The Hassans immediately hid, and I was the only one who could sense their presence, while the others quietly moved towards me.
- Whatever you say, boss. Actually, we're going to have a fun job, I gather. Battles with supervillains and terrorists and all that fun stuff. And we'll even be paid handsomely for it, by the government itself. Chic," Domino said happily, walking beside me.
- Well, you're right, roughly speaking. But you don't take into account such nuances as deaths of civilians, tragedies, revenge from our enemies, possible death of comrades and a lot of other not very pleasant things, - I answered her.
- Ooooh, boss why think so negatively? With a little luck we can avoid all this, right? Yes and more positivity in life. If you think like that, it will definitely happen! - Domino said confidently, spinning round me.
- Because you have to be serious about these things. Light-heartedness and positivity won't help us much in killing criminals. And it doesn't stop being a murder if you kill bad people," I told her, remembering the words of a comrade from when I was in the war in a previous life. That one was a strongly religious man, and had always told me that killing was a sin in itself, and should be avoided whenever possible. It was that kind of thinking that ruined him. The one he spared stabbed him with a knife hidden in his shoe. That's when I realised that those who have never lost their humanity should always be killed. They'll never change, and they'll only try to make your life harder. You're not killing them, you're keeping them alive. Because the blood of all the people they kill after that will be on your hands.
- I agree with the commander. You have to be more serious in such matters, so that at the decisive moment your hand doesn't tremble," Mukuro replied to my words, looking at Domino with a frown.
- You don't understand my delicate nature at all. But that's okay, I'll prove to you the importance of fun in life," Domino said, clenching her fist and stepping back to Mukuro. Apparently she had chosen an easier victim.
- Okay, this will be your home now. You can choose any flat on the first and second floors. As for the Hassans, you guard the base area for now. Your flat will be ready in a couple of days, - I said, pointing my hand towards the big house, - By the way, Neo, you are now a full-fledged member of the Argent squad, but the rest of you will have to prove your abilities in two days at the firing range. I may not be at the base and you will have to obey General Lane until I return. I'm sure you'll all be able to pass the tests easily, but give it your best shot," I said as I left for my room. I also need to get some sleep. Physically I wasn't tired, but mentally I was exhausted.
I had to deal with Alice first thing in the morning tomorrow, and then I had to go to Metropolis and summon the others, and then to Smallville to see my parents.
Ohhh, just when things had settled down, I immediately created a bunch of new ones. But that's okay, all this effort will benefit the future I want to build....

- Honey, wake up," Semilia's voice woke me up. Opening my eyes, I immediately saw her face right in front of mine. Yes and I also felt a heaviness on my body as well. I wonder...
If someone else snuck up on me like that, I would immediately wake up and go into battle mode, but apparently Semilia is concerned because I trust her. I wonder...
- What time is it now? - I asked her, sitting down and placing the girl on my lap.
- Mmmm, about half past six in the morning," she said thoughtfully, giving me a sly smile.
- And you decided to wake me up so early for an obviously important reason, didn't you? Yes? - I asked her.
- Of course... Alice made us breakfast, and it's insanely delicious, especially her pizza," Semilia said, kissing me. My annoyance at having my sleep so brazenly interrupted immediately went somewhere. I was going to be up pretty early anyway.
- Was she feeling better? - I asked the girl.
- Yep. She's surprisingly calm. And Alice told me that she's already recovered from the experience, and now she just doesn't want to remember it in her new life, - Semilia answered me.
I don't think it's that simple. The system has obviously interfered with Alice's mind and may have reduced her emotions towards the past world, or something like that. With her powers, it shouldn't be too hard to do something like that. But okay, it was good for her, so don't take it negatively....
- I think it's some sort of influence from the powers I used to summon her," I said, looking at the ceiling thoughtfully.
- I thought the same thing. But it's better for her anyway, so there's nothing to worry about," Semilia said, standing up and grabbing my hand.
We still went to the kitchen, where I found Alice finishing cooking some food, who was happily humming some song. At once I could see a great contrast with her yesterday's condition. Yesterday she was pale with a kind of desperate expression and red eyes. Her whole appearance spoke of not the best situation in life, and in general, of fatigue.
But now she looked exactly as a girl of her age should look, quite cheerful and cheerful, not worrying about anything. She was doing her favourite thing and clearly enjoying it....
- Oh, Semilia had brought the master after all. Good morning!" she said cheerfully, turning to us.
- Good morning, Alice. And you'd better call me Edmont or Ed, I'm more used to it," I told her, sitting down at the table, which was already full of dishes. I feel like an aristocrat....
- All right, Edmont-san," she said as she came to the table and put the last dish on it.
- No, no. Just Edmont, or better yet, just Ed. We don't use Japanese suffixes," I said, only now realising that she was speaking Japanese. Both Semilia and I knew it well, but I couldn't be sure about the others.
- Good, Ed," she said cheerfully, looking at me.
Well, I guess it's time to talk to her. Yes, and I want to get to know her better, as a person, not as a character. She must be quite an interesting person. So it's a good time to talk to her, and I can tell by the look in her eyes that she wants to do the same...
