Chapter 228 - 228: An Indelible Mark_1
Chapter 228: Chapter 228: An Indelible Mark_1
He hoped that Ahao would scold him or even beat him up. This sense of estrangement between them was unbearable for him.
Yun Lei turned to leave. As he reached the door, he paused, “Big brother, go back home earlier!” Then he left with heavy steps.
Yun Hai let out a bitter laugh. From the time he could remember, his parents had always told him that as the eldest brother, he was responsible for taking care of his younger siblings and act like a true elder brother. They also used to say, “when brothers unite in purpose, they can cut through any obstacle”.
However, he failed to live up to those expectations, allowing rumors about his wife and Little Huzi to spread in public.
How could he face Ahao and ask for his forgiveness?
The words from his three younger siblings, as if they were harsh blows to his face and heart, had become a permanent mark that couldn’t be erased.
…..
They had a meal in silence.
“Mom, Dad, I’m leaving.” After putting down his chopsticks, Ahao declared his departure.
This was unexpected to both of their parents.
Yun Shuang hoped dearly that they would have a good talk and settle their differences. If they did so, some things would probably be left behind. However, seeing Ahao eager to leave right now, she was surprised, “Ahao, the sun is still blazing outdoors.”
“That’s fine.” His two simple words conveyed his firm decision to leave.
Yun’s father knew that there was no point in dissuading him, so he remembered the money sent from the army, “Ahao, wait a moment.”
Yun Shuang was puzzled. Was her father not intending to keep Ahao from leaving?
Similarly, Ahao was somewhat sceptical. What was his father going to fetch?
The elderly man moved quickly. When he returned, he was holding two envelopes, “This is the money the army sent you. Take it.”
Yun’s mother saw the envelopes in her husband’s hands. She had forgotten about it last time, but this time her husband remembered.
“Ahao, we’ve divided some corn at home. Take some with you when you leave.” Yun’s mother remembered about the corn and enthusiastically told him to take some home.
Ahao, however, refused decisively, and there was a trace of coldness in his tone, “Mother, keep it! And as for this money, father, you keep it too. There’s still a lot left from the money you gave Yunhan last time.”
Both Yun’s father and Yun’s mother felt awkward simultaneously.
After thinking for a while, Yun Shuang understood why Ahao would refuse to take the grain.
She figured he was afraid that as soon as he left with the grain, his sisters-in-law would cause a commotion.
Ahao didn’t want to stir up any trouble.
He was doing it for his parents’ sake.
“Father, just keep it. Consider it as Ahao and Yunhan’s advance New Year’s gift!” Yun Shuang had known Ahao for many years and understood him pretty well.
While Ahao didn’t agree or object, he tacitly accepted Yun Shuang’s suggestion.
With hopeful eyes, Yun’s mother gazed at Ahao, wishing to hear such affirmations from his mouth.
However, even after a long while, she didn’t get any explanation from him.
“Father, mother, I should go now. Yunhan is still waiting for me at home.” This was the longest sentence Ahao had spoken since he came home.
“Ahao, treat your wife well.” Yun’s father had nothing else to say to his son, as everything had already been said.
Yun’s mother, thinking of Meng Yunhan and Little Huzi, added, “Take good care of your wife and child.”
Yun Shuang intended to go into town, but seeing her mother in such a state, she felt the need to comfort her.
“Ahao, next time when you come back, I’ll visit Little Huzi and Yunhan.”
Ahao’s departure from Qingzhao Village stirred up gossip among some villagers.
Yun Shuang helped her mother back to the house, advising her earnestly, “Mother, things have come to this point. You should stop trying to make Ahao reconcile with big brother and second brother.”
