Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Storm on the Horizon
In the heart of Loguetown, a dense cloud of cigar smoke curled into the air as Marine Captain Smoker leaned against the railing of the Marine base balcony, his sharp eyes scanning the bustling town below. A fresh report had just landed in his hands, detailing the arrival of a certain Straw Hat pirate. His lips curled into a smirk as he crushed the paper in his fist. "So, you've finally arrived, Monkey D. Luffy. Let's see if you can escape me."
Meanwhile, Luffy followed the overwhelming presence he had sensed earlier. His feet carried him through the back alleys of Loguetown, away from the main streets. His heart pounded with excitement—he was finally going to meet his father. As he turned a corner, standing in the shadow of a crumbling wall, he saw him.
Monkey D. Dragon.
The revolutionary leader stood tall, his cloak billowing in the wind. His piercing eyes locked onto Luffy's, unreadable and calm. For a moment, neither spoke.
Luffy broke the silence with his usual grin. "So, you're my dad, huh? Took ya long enough to show up."
Dragon chuckled. "I could say the same about you. You've made quite the name for yourself. Thirty million already?"
Luffy waved his hand dismissively. "Eh, that's nothing. I'm gonna be King of the Pirates."
Dragon studied him for a moment before nodding. "I believe you."
Luffy's grin widened before he got serious. "Hey, I need something. Medicine. There's an island with giant insects called Little Garden. If my crew gets bitten, I want something to help them."
Dragon raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Smart. I'll have something sent to you before you leave. Anything else?"
Luffy scratched his head. "Yeah! Give me your Den Den Mushi number. And Sabo's too."
A flicker of emotion crossed Dragon's face at the mention of Sabo, but he quickly pulled out a small slip of paper. "Here. Use it wisely."
Luffy stuffed it into his pocket with a satisfied nod. "Thanks!"
Just then, a loud voice echoed through the alleyway. "There you are, Straw Hat!"
Luffy turned his head to see Smoker approaching, his long Marine coat flowing behind him. Smoke billowed from his fists as he cracked his knuckles. "I've been waiting for you."
Dragon remained still as Luffy took a step forward, stretching his arms. "Heh, guess it's time to play."
The storm in Loguetown was just beginning.
