Chapter 168: The Narrow Mimic Dungeon
As one would expect, the dungeon smelled even worse on the inside than on the outside.
It was a literal tunnel, and while he couldn't say he really disliked it, the walls were way too narrow.
There wasn't a lot of wriggle room, so he and Zafira had to walk pretty close, their hands practically touching with each swing.
However, as much as Rael wanted to embrace her again, this was a serious hunt, and for that, they actually had to focus.
"Zafira." He halted, brushing his finger across the wall. "There are some claw marks here."
She nodded, inspected the claw marks, and then leaned down, picking something up off the ground.
It was a piece of cloth, resembling a sweater. From the style alone, he could tell it belonged to one of the barbarians.
But now? It was simply covered in blood with no bones to be seen.
"Probably a predator."
Zafira rolled her eyes. "You don't say..."
"Was just making an observation," he replied with a sigh. "You're really trying to tease me now, though?"
She giggled. "I'm just trying to ease the tension."
He could admit it worked, since he accidentally tapped the wall, causing a separate long tunnel to appear where the wall was supposed to be.
"Oh." she whispered. "That definitely wasn't there before."
Rael rolled his eyes, pulled out his violin blade and stabbed the rapier into the wall right beside Zafira.
To no one's surprise, the wall opened up in the same way as the last one. All it took was a simple touch.
Both the entrances were identical and had weird engravings on the side.
"Secret rooms?" Zafira tilted her head. "That's not ominous at all..."
"I think we can stop whispering," Rael remarked. "I think this is a mimic dungeon."
"A mimic dungeon?" Zafira wondered. "As in those dungeons where you're inside a monster?"
"Mhm..." Rael nodded, and instead of taking either of the two paths, he continued walking forward.
She followed along cautiously.
"And you're sure of this?"
"We'll see in just a moment," Rael replied as he looked for one thing in particular.
And after a few seconds, he found it.
"Claw marks, same ones as last time." he pointed out with a sigh.
Mimic dungeons were not dangerous most of the time, as all the people had to do was find a way out.
The catch? These dungeons were actually giant monsters that had been sealed in between dimensions. He wasn't sure how it worked, but he knew that the only way to escape such a dungeon was to destroy five cores, which were scattered around.
Though I can't pinpoint the cores from here. I can't inspect this giant ass monster either, Rael thought with a sigh, and poked holes in the 'walls' again.
"Wait," Zafira said, halting as she turned to the side. They had been looping around so far, and he was just looking for any vulnerabilities.
However...
"That wasn't there before, I'm sure of it," she added, approaching a small orange pip on the wall.
It blended perfectly with the dark surroundings and the lantern's flame, so it was hard to notice. Especially for Rael, who was looking for any vulnerabilities on the ground.
"Poke it," Rael said with a grin. "If it pops, good. If not, then we're not on the right track."
"Well, you could always buy a map..." Zafira muttered, walking over to pop the orange pip.
On the other hand, Rael froze before facepalming.
This isn't an illusion, else I'd be able to see it with my Primordial Sight. But since it's a dungeon, it should have a map... he trailed off, opening the premium shop.
•—Premium Shop—•

• Mimic Dungeon Instance Map (Common): 1,000,000 Trell
Rael swiftly purchased it since it was so cheap, and in the very next moment, a parchment map appeared in his hand.
He inspected it, and the moment he did, a frown appeared on his face.
It was one giant straight tunnel, and the number of rooms scattered around was giving him a headache.
A literal maze, and clearly, Zafira popping a pip wouldn't do anything.
We need to get into the inner part to destroy the cores, Rael thought and approached Zafira, placing a hand on her shoulder just as she was about to strike the pip.
"No need, got the map," he said, showing the map to her.
Zafira's eyes narrowed, and not even a moment later, she placed her finger on the map and suddenly began trailing each of the pathways.
He was puzzled by her behavior, but he let her continue. Eventually, her finger stopped on a particular pathway, and she soon traced it back to the tunnel they were on.
Sure, it was a massive loop. However, even loops had loopholes.
"This is the exit," she stated plainly as she brushed back her hair. "It's the only path in the entire map that doesn't repeat itself."
"...?" Rael's eyes widened. "You can see all that?"
Zafira scoffed and puffed her chest. "What? Do you think I'm some trophy wife?"
"I kinda wish you were sometimes. You're stealing all my glory," Rael replied plainly, earning a giggle from her in response.
"I guess we'll see where we end up~" she trailed off playfully as she approached the single pathway she had pointed to.
Then, she turned back around, her beautiful smile entering his sight.
"Are you coming?"
Rael stared at her speechlessly for a moment before letting out a chuckle and following her.
He pierced the wall like earlier, revealing a path that looked identical to the others he'd seen.
But as Zafira took the first confident steps forward, he couldn't help but feel like he had doubted her for no reason.
Therefore, Rael took a deep breath and followed after her.
With each passing moment, the walls narrowed even more, to the point where he had to turn sideways in order to keep moving.
And not even a few minutes later, he noticed a glowing opening which Zafira swiftly headed toward.
He stuck right behind her, and the moment they reached the glowing opening, their eyes widened.
What the fuck is that?
