Chapter 6: The Runaway Princess
Meanwhile
Waking in my bed at home is normal, but it's not normal when the last place I was, was the ghost town's cathedral. I don't want to get up, but I don't really have much of a choice to. Knock, knock. See, like I said, not much of a choice that's probably my maid.
"Miss. Iris, it is time for you to get up." Next, she's going to enter my room and choose an outfit for me to wear. Creek. Her name is Sarah, she's, my maid.
"Miss. Iris, what color would you pick to wear today?" I want sneak out again today, but I not sure if I'll be able to.
"Sarah, what's today's kingdom's news?" Hearing the morning news helps me decide if I should sneak out or not.
"Well Miss. Iris, there has been a series of pickpocketing in the middle class, an orphan went missing from the upper class and your 18th birthday is two weeks from now." Wait, did she just say a little girl went missing from an orphanage?
"Sarah, what did the little girl who went missing look like? Sarah turned to me like she knew I was thinking of something dumb. I don't know, but I could get you a missing person's poster from outside." Bingo, that my chance to be able to go outside, and once I'm outside I can sneak away and go to the ghost town where that little girl was running!
"Sarah, may we go into town today to hand out a poster of the missing girl, please?" Sarah sighs but nods, yay! Sarah could never say no to me. I got out of bed quickly and walked towards the closet.
"So, why don't you pick what I wear today, Sarah?" She looked at me suspiciously but did as I said and picked a blue gown, I took the dress and pushed her out of my room.
"Miss?! You don't need help getting dressed?!" She turned around but I closed my bedroom door.
"Nope! I can get dressed all by myself." I put on a small dress under my gown, I was going to sneak off and take off my gown. Once I was all dressed, I left my room and went to the dining hall, my father was already there.
"Good morning father!" I smiled.
"Iris, have a seat." I sat down quickly across from him.
"Yes father." The servers began to serve the food as we sat silently.
"I hear from Sarah that you're going to the town to hand out papers today." I nodded.
"Iris, did you know that your 18th birthday and marriage ball is only in two weeks." I nodded again, I didn't want to go to that marriage ball, I wanted to get married but not to some rich snob.
"Father, may I take leave?" He sighed heavily but nodded. I stood up and left the castle getting into the carriage. No, we're not that old, we have cars, it's just my father thinks it's fancier if we go around in carriages. It wasn't too long before we arrived at the upper class, I got out the carriage quickly and looked at the missing poster, it really did look like the girl I had seen. Well then, it's time to execute my plan.
"Sarah, I'm going to go into that shop really quick to use their bathroom." Sarah sends a bodyguard to wait outside the bathroom. Too bad for them I wouldn't be coming back out, there was a window in this bathroom so all I needed to do was take off the dress, re-do my makeup and climb out the window. Now I was in an alleyway and with a few turns I'm on a completely different street. From here I can call a cab to drive me to the slums.
The drive was only two hours long. I got out the cab and paid the man double, on my way to the ghost town I stopped at a small bakery and bought some water and food for her. I would imagine she's hungry. Now that I'm in the ghost town I need to find out what building she's in, that was going to be the hardest part. Clank. Or so I thought that noise came from the old academy's dormitory. It's so dirty and it feels like it's going to fall apart. The noise came from one of the higher floors, I walked as fast as I could in heels. I ended up on the 8th floor and there was light coming out of one of the rooms, I quickly walked over there and there she was, the little girl. I had seen her name on the missing poster, so I called out to her.
"Ivy?" She turned her head quickly, her eyes wide and when she saw me, she hid behind the thing she was pushing.
"W-who are you?! How do you know my name!" She was so adorable.
"Ivy, I'm not going to hurt you and I'm also not taking you back to the orphanage. I mean you had a reason to run away, right? I learned your name from the missing posters." Ivy peeped out from behind the thing she had been pushing. She was so cute I wish she could be my daughter.
"Well, if you're not here to take me back why are you here?" I smiled and began to walk closer to her.
"I thought you might be hungry, you're a kid and probably don't have a job, so I brought you some food." Ivy stepped out from behind the object, and I gave her the food and water. She sat on the floor and started eating it meanwhile I walked over to the object she was moving.
"Don't. Touch. It." I turned to Ivy, and she was giving me a death stare.
"What is it?" I sat down next to her making sure to keep a smile.
"It's a generator, it's the only reason I have a working light and a heater, no water yet though." Wow she found a generator and got it to work.
"This is a pretty nice place you got here Ivy, why did you run away?" Ivy spoke in between bites.
"I left because they treated me like an idiot, living there was pointless. I was just there to grow up and get married or something." I understood Ivy, she didn't want to be part of the big fancy life, she just wanted to be known for her talent.
"I get it, I also wish I could run away." Ivy looked at me confused.
"Who are you anyway, you never told me." I really hadn't introduced myself.
"M-me, I'm Iris, I'm the princess." Ivy smiled and started laughing.
"You? The princess? Impossible. She's just a rich snob like everyone else." I was surprised by Ivy's response.
"Well, it's fine if you don't believe me, but can I stay with you for a while? If my father knows I ran away I'm dead." I looked at Ivy seriously hoping she would say yes otherwise I was done for.
"Fine, there are two beds, you can have the other one, but there's no showering princess." Ivy finished eating and began pushing the generator again. I stood up and began to help her push.
"I might be a princess but I'm not afraid of getting dirty you know!" Together we pushed the generator towards the wall and left it there. Ivy went over to one of the beds and laid down, I lied down on the bed next to hers.
"Ivy, I don't want to ask something too personal but what happened to your parents?" Ivy turned off the light.
"Shut up or get out." I did as she said and got quiet, but I felt bad.
"I'm sorry for asking but I lost my mom as well, she got ill and slowly died… I was 6 at the time she died." Ivy didn't respond so I assumed she was asleep, I ended up going to sleep as well.
