Chapter 546 An adventure, like old times
546 An adventure, like old times
His training intensified as he walked through these mountains' vast forests and plains. He needed to train his body, so he momentarily sealed his power.
Although he needed to train his Path of Control, too, so the seal of his power only existed when he was trying to fight; inside his body, while he was not fighting, it was overflowing.
This time, he was trying to train his body to control its power internally for progressive strengthening. He allowed his body to become accustomed to a constant, internal movement of his own power so that it could strengthen his body passively and progressively. If he could complete that one, he could move smoothly up to the second level within the Path of Control, which he hoped would give him ample power in general.
But completing it was too difficult. Although the inner power is his, and he should be able to control it as he wants, and indeed, he can, it is not the same when it is a passive movement without him controlling it.
For this, he needs many things and must find a way to build muscle memory inside his brain to move it passively. Although it looked simple at the beginning, it became more complicated little by little because it required too much energy, and he could not move simultaneously; it must be progressive as if he were in a circle of infinite movement.
However, little by little, he was training his mind and body to accept it boldly, and now he is very close to achieving it.
Though unable to do so and surrounded by so many problems, he decided to go training in a different way. In this world, he has rarely had the opportunity to go on an adventure on his own; he has almost always been close to someone when he does. Alice, Isla...
Even on Earth, he almost always went on adventures with Charlotte.
But, millions of years ago, when his family still existed, he loved to go on adventures alone. It was one of the pleasures he could enjoy; now, he wanted to enjoy it again.
So, the deeper he went, the more excited he got, although he didn't forget the reasons why he came here.
The first thing was to train, of course. But he also needed to find out some information about the place where Isla lived in her childhood, as he wanted to understand more about her, starting with the fact that her age is not 10 million years old as it should be. According to her energy, although it has increased considerably, it still tells him that she is less than 25 years old.
That's mysterious, and he needs to understand the reasons for it.
'Although the best thing would have been to go and ask Sophia. These mountains are so big that...' Matthew turned around and looked down and sideways.
He had passed several large and beautiful mountains with many different beasts, but in the end, he found nothing.
There wasn't much snow on the first few mountains, but after the third one, things changed drastically. There was almost no green vegetation anymore; it was almost all painted white.
'They're so big that I'm afraid it's almost impossible to get that spot. Moreover, the snowstorms around here are annoying; they should have covered it all by now.' He sighed but looked ahead.
He hadn't encountered any devourers, so he had virtually no information.
Still, he didn't care.
He started walking again before stopping and stepping back to dodge a claw attack from a huge bear that had been hiding behind a towering tree.
'These trees are so thick they lend themselves to things like that.' He quickly stepped forward and punched the bear a few times in the chest.
Although he had his power sealed and was facing a bear with inner power, which seemed to have a power of about 10,000, there was nothing to worry about.
His body had long since surpassed that level, so his blows bent numerous bones and hollowed out the chest.
Matthew grabbed its claw and pulled it towards him, subsequently jumping up and riding on the bear's head. He then bent its neck with ease, and the little bear that only wanted food turned into roasted meat a few hours later.
It was already dark. Although he had no sun and moon indicator to tell him whether it was night or day, he could now recognize a little when it was night.
By cheating, of course. He used a device that told him the time so as not to mess with his head.
After cooking the bear and eating several kilos of meat, Matthew went on his way, not wanting to waste time.
A little later, he frowned.
Besides, these beasts were not like the rest. They appeared to be larger and had certain distinctions that showed they were the leaders of their respective herds. If they gathered to attack him, it was because they had good intelligence, but in Matthew's eyes, they were pretty dumb.
Matthew shook off his hands and stretched out his arms in preparation for the hard battle to come. Doing so was taken as a moment of weakness by several wolf-like beasts that attacked him head-on, but it was a feint.
He stomped to the side to dodge their claws and lunged at one of them, hitting it firmly in the stomach and slamming into one of the nearby trees. At the same time, he spun on his own axis and launched a kick towards the one coming from behind, destroying several bones in one blow.
At that moment, he realized that those who came to attack him were not just anything. 'I estimate over 20,000 power. Although I can't see it because they use power so weirdly, they should hover around that. They're pretty tough. At least like a devourer with 10,000 power.'
He drew that conclusion because the punch he took hurt his hands, and he wasn't far wrong. It was a pretty accurate prediction of the power this group of powerful animals wielded.
And, although he wanted to think, he knew he had to concentrate, for it was not only those two who were attacking and, among those, there were snakes and other venomous animals that were slippery and quite annoying to deal with.
So he soon found himself plunged into a protracted battle of endurance, full of powerful blows but without a hint of vampiric power.
