Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Froakie Acquired (5)

School Pond.

Ever since the Pokémon World merged with this reality, the world itself had expanded. Even ordinary places—like schools—were now far larger than before.

As one of Saffron City's top academies, Saffron Academy had a massive school pond, almost the size of a small lake.

Usually, this area was a popular spot for students to hang out.

But today?

The pond was completely off-limits.

The entire area had been sealed off for the starter Pokémon selection.

Only those qualified to choose a starter were permitted to enter.

Trying to sneak in to grab a starter early?

A one-way ticket to regret.

Surveillance cameras covered every inch of the school grounds.

Anyone caught stealing a starter Pokémon would be immediately disqualified as a Trainer—and even face jail time.

And even if someone somehow managed to take a Pokémon and run, the Pokémon League would reclaim it immediately.

The rules were absolute.

---

When Ryuu arrived at the pond, the place was deserted.

Not surprising.

After all, the number of students eligible to receive starter Pokémon was already small.

And most of them were off chasing other options.

Which meant?

Froakie was all his.

An Elite-grade Froakie?

There was no way in hell he was letting this chance slip.

After leaving the classroom, he had followed the glowing red fate thread that belonged to Watanabe Shun.

This destiny thread had led him straight to the pond.

Ryuu had originally been worried about how to track down Froakie—after all, the school was huge.

But thanks to the system's tracking ability, pinpointing opportunities meant for others was effortless.

Now, if he ever found out that someone else was destined to get a rare Pokémon or treasure, he could steal it with perfect accuracy.

This system was busted.

No more wandering blindly through the wild hoping to stumble upon good fortune.

Ryuu just had to follow the threads—and claim everything for himself.

---

Southeast corner of the pond.

There.

Froakie was just within reach.

But there was a problem.

Froakie was still in the water.

And jumping into the water?

Not an option.

One of the golden rules of wilderness survival was:

Never enter water without a plan.

Most Water-type Pokémon were territorial.

Disturb them, and they'd attack without hesitation.

Over the years, there had been countless cases of Trainers who underestimated wild Water-types—only to end up dragged into the depths.

So, unless you had a Water Pokémon to assist you, going in was suicide.

---

As Ryuu stood there debating his approach, ripples formed on the pond's surface.

Then—

A small blue figure emerged from the water.

A Froakie, its sleek body glistening under the sunlight.

And on its head—

A red fate thread.

The same one connected to Watanabe Shun.

Which meant this was the Froakie destined for him.

Except—

It wasn't anymore.

Because Ryuu was taking it for himself.

His expression lit up.

Now to win it over.

He reached into his backpack, pulling out a small box filled with Energy Cubes.

---

Over the past few centuries, the world had developed advanced Pokémon food, similar to the Pokémon world's Pokéblocks and Poffins.

These Energy Cubes were highly nutritious and delicious—but they weren't quite at the level of the Pokémon world's top-tier food.

Still, compared to wild berries, these cubes had balanced nutrients and were far tastier.

Most Pokémon loved them.

"Froakie, want a bite?"

Ryuu extended his hand, offering a cube.

Froakie stared at him for a moment.

Then—

It hopped forward, landing just a few feet away.

Without hesitation, it snatched up the cube and took a bite.

The moment the sweetness hit, Froakie's eyes widened.

"Froakiii!"

A delighted cry escaped it, a smile forming on its face.

It liked it.

Ryuu saw his chance.

"Froakie," he said, kneeling down to meet its gaze. "Want to be my Pokémon?"

"If you do, I'll give you these every day."

He held up another Energy Cube.

His eyes were full of anticipation.

This moment would determine everything.

Froakie hesitated.

Its golden eyes met Ryuu's.

For a moment, they simply stared at each other.

Then—

Perhaps sensing Ryuu's sincerity, Froakie slowly reached out a hand.

With a small tap, it touched the Poké Ball in Ryuu's outstretched palm.

A flash of red light engulfed the tiny Water-type.

The Poké Ball shook lightly.

Then—

Ding!

The sound of successful capture echoed in the air.

For a brief second, Ryuu couldn't move.

Then—

"HELL YEAH!"

His excitement exploded.

Without thinking, he jumped up, lifting the Poké Ball high into the air.

This was his first ever Pokémon.

And not just any Pokémon.

An Elite-grade Froakie.

His future was set.

---

He immediately released Froakie from the Poké Ball.

The small Water-type blinked before looking up at Ryuu.

A moment later—

It hopped into his arms.

Clearly, it had already warmed up to him.

Ryuu gently held it close, smiling.

"Froakie, from now on, we're partners."

Froakie let out a small, content hum, shifting slightly to get comfortable.

It had already accepted Ryuu as its Trainer.

Ryuu smirked.

A strong bond was the key to unlocking Ash-Greninja.

If he could develop that bond, then Froakie would eventually achieve the Bond Phenomenon.

And Bonded Greninja?

That was an absolute monster.

His future was looking better and better.

---

Meanwhile…

After following Ryuu's advice, Aoi had tracked down the Charmander in the southeast corner of the school.

And—

She had successfully caught it.

She never doubted Ryuu's words.

After all, Ryuu was from an Elite Trainer family—if he said a Pokémon was strong, then it was.

Now, she had a high-grade Charmander.

Which meant her Trainer career was starting on the perfect note.

Aoi returned to the classroom, expecting to see Ryuu soon.

But—

Even after waiting a while, he still hadn't shown up.

She found herself subconsciously thinking about him.

She sighed.

"Where is he?"

---

Back at the pond, Ryuu was taking his time.

Leisurely, he walked back toward the classroom, Froakie resting in his arms.

By the time he arrived, most students had already picked their Pokémon.

Inside the room, groups of students were loudly discussing their choices.

Those who had received strong Pokémon were showing off.

Those who weren't satisfied? Well, they at least had a starter Pokémon now.

As soon as Ryuu entered—

All eyes turned to him.

"Whoa, Ryuu got Froakie?!"

"That's so rare!"

A group of girls instantly surrounded him, their eyes shining with admiration.

Truthfully?

Froakie wasn't that rare.

But that wasn't why they were interested.

The real reason?

Because it was Ryuu who had it.

Froakie, sitting in Ryuu's arms, smugly accepted the attention.

It knew it was special.

Ryuu?

He sighed.

This Froakie… was way too arrogant.

But at least it wasn't timid.

And that?

That was a good thing.
