Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Destiny’s Chosen – Ryuu
A Parallel World – The Capital City
In the heart of the metropolis stood a massive building, its sleek glass structure resembling an enormous aquarium. But this wasn't a marine entertainment center.
"Ryuu, wake up!"
"I know."
In his bedroom, a young man rubbed his eyes, still groggy from sleep. Shaking off the drowsiness, he dressed quickly and headed to the bathroom.
After brushing his teeth and splashing cold water on his face, his mind sharpened. He stepped into the living room, where breakfast was already laid out.
At the table sat a middle-aged man, a newspaper in his left hand and a cup of tea in his right.
A graceful woman, her beauty untouched by age, placed two plates of food on the table.
"Ryuu, hurry and eat before it gets cold."
Her voice was filled with warmth, and when she looked at him, there was nothing but affection. It was as if she wanted to spoil him beyond reason.
"Got it, Mom."
Ryuu took his seat and picked up his utensils. Beside him stood a towering yellow-and-black Pokémon.
"Electivire, good morning."
"Vireee!"
Electivire waved a muscular arm, greeting him cheerfully.
Yes, Electivire.
Ryuu wasn't an ordinary teenager—he was a Transmigrator.
More than a decade ago, he had crossed over from Earth into this world, a realm where Pokémon and humans coexisted.
At first, history had mirrored that of his original world. But everything changed a few centuries ago, during the beginning of the Great War. That was when Pokémon first appeared.
The moment these powerful creatures entered the world, conventional weaponry lost its significance. Warships, firearms, and missiles became obsolete overnight.
In the years that followed, Pokémon Trainers rose to prominence, shaping the new global order.
With Pokémon on their side, nations waged battles that redefined history. Some countries fell, others thrived. But one thing was certain—this new era had rewritten humanity's fate.
In 2022, the Kanto Region had become one of the strongest forces in the world, standing alongside the United States of Unova and the Russian Federation Region.
Many other nations existed, large and small, but these three held the most influence within the Pokémon World Alliance.
Despite the political complexities, Ryuu had a more personal concern—his lineage.
Born into a prestigious family tied to Electric-type Pokémon, he was the heir to an elite household.
His grandfather was an Electric-type Elite Four member, and his grandmother a Senior Breeder.
His father, inheriting their talents, became a Gym Leader specializing in Electric Pokémon. As the official Gym Trainer of Saffron City, he commanded some of the most powerful Electric-types in the region.
Among them was his Electivire—a Pokémon at the peak of Elite-level strength.
Additionally, he owned a Magnezone, also at Elite-level, along with two other formidable Pokémon that had reached the Ace Trainer rank.
Despite this, his father wasn't as powerful as his grandfather, who still held an official Elite position. His father's title as an "Elite" was in name only.
Meanwhile, Ryuu's mother was a strong Trainer in her own right, though she only reached the Quasi-Elite level. Like his grandmother, she was a renowned Breeder.
With such an extraordinary background, Ryuu was already leagues ahead of ordinary Trainers.
At least he didn't have to worry about getting his first Pokémon.
Compared to other transmigrators in similar situations—where their "parents" were mere common workers struggling to afford a Pokémon—he was incredibly lucky.
But even so, he envied the protagonists in fantasy novels.
Why?
Because they always had cheat systems.
While they started from nothing, a single system allowed them to surpass even the strongest families.
In contrast, Ryuu had everything—a powerful lineage, a strong foundation—but no system.
If given a choice, he would gladly trade some of his family's prestige for a system.
Because a system would take him further than any privileged background ever could.
---
At the breakfast table, his father, Fujiwara Daiki, folded his newspaper and spoke.
"Ryuu, today's the day you receive your starter Pokémon. Have you decided what to choose?"
As the Gym Leader of Saffron City, Fujiwara Daiki took this very seriously.
Naturally, he wanted his son to choose an Electric-type Pokémon, ensuring he would one day take over the Gym.
"Forget about the usual starters. You should choose an Electric-type, like my Elekid."
His father's gaze was expectant, filled with hope.
Ryuu hesitated.
He was still waiting.
If fate followed the typical isekai protagonist script, then today—the day he received his first Pokémon—should be the day he awakened a system.
If that happened, his options would expand far beyond Electric-types.
But if he didn't get a system… then taking Elekid wouldn't be a bad choice.
After all, an Electivire raised by an Elite Trainer was already leagues ahead of standard starter Pokémon.
"We'll see," Ryuu replied casually.
Fujiwara Daiki frowned but didn't push further.
At that moment, his mother, Fujiwara Sumire, interrupted.
"Daiki, let Ryuu decide for himself," she said with a warm smile.
Daiki sighed. His wife was the one person he never dared to argue with.
At home, Sumire ruled with absolute authority, and Daiki had long accepted his position as "third place" in the family hierarchy.
Ryuu? He was number one.
Being the beloved only son of a powerful family had its perks.
---
After breakfast, Ryuu grabbed his backpack and boarded a shuttle to Saffron Academy.
Today was the day students received their first Pokémon.
He wasn't excited about the starter Pokémon themselves.
What truly mattered was whether or not he would awaken a system.
Because with a system, he could take off instantly.

Saffron Academy
The school grounds were unusually lively.
Students had arrived earlier than usual, their excitement clear.
After all, today marked a turning point in their lives—the day they officially became Pokémon Trainers.
For most, obtaining a starter Pokémon was their only chance to enter the Trainer world.
In wealthier families, parents could simply buy a powerful Pokémon for their children.
But for commoners, attending school was the only way to receive a starter.
The academy offered a selection of basic Pokémon: Oddish, Weedle, Caterpie—Pokémon considered weak and common.
Without talent or luck, Trainers who started with such Pokémon would struggle to ever reach Elite status.
Even those who obtained the traditional starters—Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle—weren't guaranteed success.
Because without proper talent, even a strong Pokémon was useless.
In this world, Elite-level Trainers weren't rare, but only a few would ever rise beyond that.
Ryuu exhaled deeply as he stepped onto campus.
Today, his journey would begin.
And if fate had any sense of justice, it would give him a system.
