Chapter 65: Heroes save beauty?
Waves of water exploded as the Aqua Ring attack burst apart the leaves in the tree canopy.
Falling to the ground, Tyson's expression darkened.
Just as Kadabra was preparing to use Teleport to escape with Tyson, one of Masae Kuroda's guards ordered his Azumarill to unleash Aqua Wave, disrupting the move and forcing Tyson into the open.
"Young man, forgive my actions," the guard, Bell, quickly pleaded. "We're from the Kuroda family, and this is Lady Masae Kuroda, the daughter of the family head. If you can escort her safely back to the estate, you will be handsomely rewarded!"
Bell's eyes gleamed as he noticed Tyson's Kadabra, realizing the utility of a psychic Pokémon capable of teleportation. However, Tyson's expression remained cold.
The truth was, Bell had no intention of involving outsiders at first. When his Azumarill detected someone hiding in the canopy, Bell had chosen to wait until he was cornered. Now, having forced Tyson out into the open, Bell hoped to use him to shift the attackers' focus.
The pursuers, however, had no interest in negotiations. A group broke off and immediately began attacking Tyson. For them, eliminating witnesses was just as important as killing Masae Kuroda.
While logic might suggest aiding Bell would maximize Tyson's rewards, his thoughts were elsewhere. It was Bell's recklessness that put him in this position, a sharp reminder never to lower his guard. If he had left the area immediately instead of observing, none of this would have happened.
"Come out, Charizard! Use Flamethrower!"
"Kadabra, reposition! Teleport!"
With a flash of light, Charizard emerged, its blazing fire forming a curtain of flames to block the advancing Houndooms, negating their Taunt attempts and attacks. Meanwhile, Kadabra swapped positions with Masae Kuroda, bringing her next to Tyson before reappearing behind him. The sequence was executed seamlessly.
"Eliminate her, Kadabra!"
Bell's hopeful expression turned to horror as Masae Kuroda suddenly collapsed, lifeless.
"NO!"
Bell's anguished roar echoed through the forest, his eyes burning with regret and rage. If he hadn't provoked Tyson, perhaps they could have succeeded in protecting the young mistress.
"You'll pay for this!"
Consumed by vengeance, Bell turned his fury toward the attackers, while the pursuers refocused on him, not willing to let him escape either. Meanwhile, Tyson took advantage of the chaos, directing Kadabra to retreat with Masae Kuroda's body using Teleport.
The pursuers assigned one elite trainer and two Advanced trainers to track Tyson while the others dealt with Bell. Their goal was simple: keep Tyson within their sights until they could regroup and finish him off.
As the chase began, the three trainers relied on their Houndooms to track Tyson's scent. However, with Kadabra's high-level Teleport, they quickly lost visual contact.
Rather than splitting up, the group spread out their Houndooms to expand their search radius. They remained wary of an ambush, but their vigilance was insufficient.
Suddenly, the elite trainer vanished, replaced by Kadabra. Before the others could react, Kadabra teleported again, leaving the trainer's lifeless body behind.
The scent of blood filled the air, alerting the Houndooms, who raced to the scene. The lead Houndoom, driven by fury, found its trainer lying motionless. Before it could process the loss, more cries echoed from nearby.
Rushing toward the sound, the Houndoom discovered the other two trainers dead, their Pokémon missing. It hesitated, its instincts split between grief and vengeance.
A red beam shot out from the shadows, encapsulating the Houndoom and locking it in a Poké Ball.
Tyson emerged from his hiding spot, his expression cold and resolute. "You've done well, Kadabra. Take a rest. We'll need you for the battle ahead."
He patted Kadabra's shoulder before directing Charizard to incinerate the remains of the fallen trainers.
After being forced into this situation by Bell, Tyson had no intention of leaving anyone alive.
The chaos surrounding Masae Kuroda's assassination had been carefully orchestrated. Tyson's meticulous planning hinged on Kadabra's Teleport, which he had upgraded to its highest proficiency using mission points.
With Teleport at its peak, Kadabra could execute the move faster, with greater range, and reduced energy consumption. Even countermeasures like Taunt or Mean Look were ineffective unless they were similarly mastered.
Having invested so heavily, Tyson intended to recover his losses by looting his enemies.
