Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Collapsing
"How is this possible?"
Feeling somewhat overwhelmed, Blanc noticed that Golduck's Aqua Jet clearly struck Charmeleon. Yet, why wasn't Charmeleon severely injured and unconscious? This defied logic.
Seeing Charmeleon teetering on the verge of collapse, Blanc believed one more Aqua Jet would inevitably defeat it.
"Golduck, continue using Aqua Jet!"
While Blanc could have Golduck employ other moves, since Charmeleon was close to defeat, there was no need for a stronger Water-type attack.
Generally, when a Pokémon is near defeat, Trainers avoid using excessively powerful moves to prevent irreversible harm.
In the past, there was a Trainer who, during battles, failed to recognize when an opponent's Pokémon couldn't continue fighting and persisted with commanding overly strong attacks.
During one such battle, the opponent's Pokémon was barely able to stand, clinging onto its last bit of strength. The Trainer then ordered their Pokémon to use Hyper Beam. As a result, the opponent's Pokémon sustained critical injuries, endangering its life. Due to being too far from the Pokémon Center, medical assistance arrived too late, and they could only watch helplessly as the Pokémon slowly succumbed.
The defeated Trainer nearly went insane, and this incident caught the attention of the Pokemon League, leading to the establishment of an unofficial rule.
During battles, if it's evident that the opponent's Pokemon is nearing severe injury or unconsciousness, Trainers should avoid using excessively powerful moves. Violations would result in warnings and penalties upon discovery.
"Charmeleon, can you still hold on?" Kalia had never seen Charmeleon pushed to such extremes. Typically, Charmeleon could easily dodge opponents' attacks, yet now, despite not evading once, it hadn't lost its fighting capability.
Lian nodded, indicating he still had energy left.
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Breath," Kalia commanded. She needed to assess the overall situation; Charmeleon was clearly close to losing its battle strength. At this point, her priority was to create a safe environment for Grovyle to effectively attack.
Considering Dragon Breath's potential paralysis effect, it was the optimal choice. Although there was only a chance of causing paralysis, other moves wouldn't be as advantageous.
Lian gradually started running, appearing somewhat fatigued, ready to first evade Golduck's assault.
Although Aqua Jet is swift, it's not guaranteed to hit due to some moves being too fast and difficult to control precisely.
The surrounding smoke had gradually dissipated somewhat, but Golduck still faced visibility issues. Once Blanc pinpointed Lian's location, he commanded Aqua Jet.
As Golduck charged, Lian was already prepared to dodge. With an explosive burst of speed, he swiftly evaded to the side.
Currently, Lian's Explosive Power multiplier stood at 1.5 times, proving invaluable during critical moments. Since his strategy relied on avoiding close combat, most of this power was utilized for dodging attacks.
Golduck clearly lacked mastery over Aqua Jet, struggling to control its trajectory. After Lian evaded, Golduck nearly overshot and went beyond the battlefield boundaries.
Immediately after dodging Aqua Jet, Lian nimbly turned and unleashed Dragon Breath, executing the move seamlessly.
"Darn it, somehow avoided again." Blanc grew visibly frustrated, just narrowly missing as the Charmeleon managed to evade once more, causing him immense anxiety.
Meanwhile, Dragon Breath struck Golduck's body, forcefully buffeting it with intense breath. Coincidentally, traces of Dragon-type energy infiltrated Golduck's physique.
Gradually, Golduck sensed changes within its body; its movements seemed hindered, becoming jerky and sluggish. Something inside was obstructing its actions and restricting the flow of energy.
Did it actually enter a Paralysis state?
Observing Golduck's movements, Lian could clearly tell it had indeed fallen into Paralysis. It's intriguing how luck plays a role sometimes—while Dragon Breath may not cause Paralysis twice in a row, other times it hits with just one use.
Blanc also quickly realized this. Water-type Pokémon, aside from fearing Grass-types, also dread Electric-types. Consequently, he was well-versed in recognizing the abnormal conditions often induced by Electric-type moves, spotting it instantly.
Blanc felt his luck was somewhat lacking. Paralysis is typically caused by Electric-type moves, although he knew there was a chance for Dragon Breath to induce Paralysis too—but this probability seemed unreasonably high.
The timing of entering Paralysis at such a critical moment left Blanc devastated. Just a fraction more, and he could have defeated Charmeleon. Why couldn't fortune favor him even once?
"Golduck, don't let it affect you! Use Aqua Jet!" Blanc shouted loudly. He hadn't specifically trained Golduck to resist Paralysis before, so now it all depended on Golduck's performance.
"Charmeleon, keep pushing! Use Dragon Rage," Kalia exclaimed with delight upon seeing Golduck paralyzed. Most importantly, Charmeleon had finally regained its composure and started evading attacks effectively.
Sometimes, even Kalia couldn't understand Charmeleon's behavior. In several battles over the past few days, it failed to dodge Water-type moves, resulting in swift defeats and overall losses.
Golduck attempted to use Aqua Jet, but as soon as it began running, it realized it couldn't gain speed. Its body felt like rusty gears, unresponsive to its commands.
Observing Golduck's struggle, Lian unleashed a Dragon Rage breath. He had played around enough; sustaining heavy injuries was painful, so it was time to swiftly end the battle.
The shockwave from Dragon Rage forcefully knocked Golduck down. Due to the Paralysis-induced stiffness, it took several seconds just to stand back up.
"Gaaack!" At this moment, Golduck seemed enraged, emitting a furious cry as it abruptly jumped up, seemingly overcoming the adverse effects of Paralysis.
While Golduck's movements became smoother, its speed remained slow. It appeared that it had merely adapted to the Paralysis, allowing it to execute moves with less hindrance.
Sometimes Pokemon possess their own pride; Golduck clearly felt enraged by its inability to defeat the opponent swiftly, leading to this sudden burst of energy.
"Great job, Golduck! Use Aqua Jet and take down Charmeleon!" Seeing Golduck's determination, Blanc reignited with hope.
Golduck rapidly charged forward, not initially fast due to paralysis, but the move amplified its speed instantly. Its body covered in a layer of water, it resembled a submerged torpedo, swiftly heading towards Lian.
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage." Kalia was surprised that Golduck overcame the paralysis effect, quickly directing Charmeleon to counterattack.
She still held the advantage in this battle. Even if Charmeleon were defeated, she could bring out Grovyle, which should have no issue against an already injured Golduck.
Why couldn't you just stay defeated? Lian was somewhat speechless that Golduck managed to surge despite everything. Although unexpected, it had no impact on the outcome.
Well then, let me plunge you further into despair.
Lian immediately unleashed Dragon Rage, leaving no chance for Golduck. While Golduck could potentially withstand another hit, Lian aimed to crush Blanc's hopes entirely.
You thought I was close to losing, but in reality, you're about to be defeated. Even if your attack lands, it won't be enough to overcome me, and now you'll never know why.
Although Aqua Jet has a preemptive effect, essentially it's about suddenly increasing speed to catch the opponent off guard, which still requires some time to initiate. Moreover, Golduck was already paralyzed.
Unmercifully, Lian unleashed Dragon Rage straight towards Golduck. As they collided fiercely, Golduck attempted to push through the shockwave despite being halted momentarily.
"Hang in there, Golduck!" Blanc shouted excitedly.
However, just as he finished speaking, Golduck could no longer withstand the force and was knocked down by the shockwave. This time, Golduck did not get back up.
"No!" Blanc cried out despairingly.
