Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Why Isn't It Down Yet?
Standing firm, Lian endured the Bubble Beam and then unleashed Dragon Rage, spitting out a shockwave directly towards the approaching Kingler.
Kalia found it peculiar that Charmeleon did not dodge the Bubble Beam, as typically they would make every effort to avoid such moves.
Seeing the successful hit with Bubble Beam, Blanc flashed a brilliant smile and promptly instructed Kingler to evade Dragon Rage.
"Kingler, dodge Dragon Rage."
Although it appeared that Charmeleon didn't sustain severe damage, being struck by a Water-type move meant it must have been enduring considerable pain. Attribute advantages were no joke; for Blanc, ignoring them was unthinkable. Given Charmeleon's resistance to Special moves, it definitely couldn't withstand another Bubble Beam.
Blanc's assessment was accurate; under normal circumstances, a Charmeleon could not endure more than one Bubble Beam, even if Kingler's Special Attack ability points were relatively low. However, attribute bonuses cannot be underestimated.
But he was destined for disappointment. Lian's abilities far surpassed those of an ordinary Charmeleon. In terms of raw stats, he was comparable to a level 30-40 Charmeleon already.
The Kingler continuously swayed its crab legs, swiftly moving sideways. Despite its impressive speed, it fell short of evading Dragon Rage. Lian had utilized this move countless times and had developed excellent predictive timing.
The shockwave instantly sent the Kingler flying, crashing onto the ground. It struggled to get up but found difficulty due to the weight of its massive claws, momentarily unable to regain its footing.
After some effort, Kingler finally managed to clumsily flip itself upright. The giant claws, while providing immense offensive power, also posed as a burden.
It was evident that Blanc hadn't adequately trained his Kingler's control over the red pincers; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so challenging for the Pokemon.
However, training a Pokemon encompasses numerous aspects, making it practically impossible to cover everything comprehensively. Trainers typically focus on enhancing their Pokemon's strongest abilities.
For example, Kalia knew well that Grovyle had weak defense capabilities. Yet, she chose not to train its defense to compensate for this weakness because Grovyle excelled in speed and special attacks. Focusing on defense would be counterproductive and inefficient.
There is no such thing as a perfect Pokemon; each has its weaknesses. It's impractical to train every aspect, so focusing on enhancing their strongest abilities and addressing specific shortcomings based on need is essential.
A Trainer's capabilities are limited, and they too are continuously learning. They cannot excel in all areas simultaneously. Consequently, skilled Trainers often have one primary, formidable Pokemon while others may be somewhat weaker.
As Kingler struggled back onto its feet, Kalia promptly commanded, "Charmeleon, continue using Dragon Rage."
"Kingler, use Bubble Beam! Take down that Charmeleon," Blanc confidently instructed, believing he had control over the battle. As a challenger of the sixth floor, just one level higher made a significant difference compared to Lian.
If Blanc had followed conventional battling tactics, employing direct attack moves with his Kingler, even a single hit could potentially inflict severe damage on Lian due to the Level disparity.
However, since he insisted on taking unnecessary risks, there was little choice but to adapt.
Lian completely disregarded the Bubble Beam, unleashing Dragon Rage amidst it. The energy beams struck him, causing only mild discomfort and slight injuries.
"How is this possible?" Blanc was stunned.
The Charmeleon unscathed? How could that be? This is Bubble Beam, a Water-type move; enduring two direct hits without any effect?
In contrast, Lian's Dragon Rage struck Kingler for the second time, sending it flying again with immense force.
Despite its hard shell, Kingler's resistance against Special moves was relatively weak, and Dragon Rage bypasses Special Defense.
While the shell appeared undamaged, maintaining its usual luster, internally, Kingler couldn't sustain itself anymore. Its massive claws weakly crashed to the ground, followed by its collapse into unconsciousness.
Blanc observed Kingler losing combat capability, unsurprised as Dragon Rage is inherently powerful. However, what puzzled him was how Charmeleon seemed unaffected and continued using moves effortlessly. It made no sense.
If Charmeleon had dodged Bubble Beam, Blanc wouldn't have questioned it, but clearly, it didn't evade and took both attacks head-on. Yet, Charmeleon behaved as if it merely endured two Water Gun moves, showing no signs of harm.
Noticing Blanc's puzzled expression, Lian considered feigning severe injury to make his opponent feel better.
Clutching his stomach, he suddenly displayed a look of extreme pain, appearing as if gravely wounded while gritting his teeth and kneeling half-way on the ground.
"Charmeleon, what's wrong?" Kalia was startled by Charmeleon's appearance and anxiously asked.
Lian managed to stand up, determination shining in his eyes. He waved off her concern, indicating that he was fine.
Blanc saw this as a glimmer of hope; it seemed Charmeleon indeed sustained heavy damage but had been enduring it until now, finally reaching its limit.
"Go, Golduck! Defeat this Charmeleon!" Blanc recalled Kingler and tossed another Poké Ball, releasing a blue-bodied Golduck onto the battlefield.
Upon seeing Golduck, Lian immediately grew serious. Golduck has evenly distributed base stats, with notably high Stamina values. Additionally, it knows numerous Water-type moves.
The most threatening move against Lian was Aqua Tail, boasting a high power of 90. It was a signature Water-type attack, akin to Surf or Flamethrower.
Apart from that, Golduck's Water Pulse also posed significant danger due to its proficiency in Special Attacks.
Lian maintained a pained expression, appearing as if he were barely holding on.
"Golduck, use Aqua Jet! Quickly defeat this Charmeleon!" Blanc sounded urgent, determined to swiftly overpower the Charmeleon and give Kalia a taste of losing to a type-advantaged Pokemon.
"Charmeleon, can you hold out? Use Smokescreen," Kalia said, concerned by Charmeleon's struggle. She planned to have it release Smokescreen to buy some time.
At that moment, Golduck initiated its attack. Aqua Jet is similar to Quick Attack, both relying on sudden bursts of speed for rapid strikes.
Golduck rapidly accelerated, moving like a jet-propelled stream of water at lightning-fast speed, heading straight towards Lian.
Lian didn't attempt to dodge but instead opted for Smokescreen first. Aqua Jet's speed was too rapid, making evasion challenging.
Aqua Jet isn't particularly powerful and is primarily an attack move. Honestly, Lian expected Golduck to use Water Pulse, not relying solely on Aqua Jet to defeat him.
Perhaps Blanc assumed he was close to losing his fighting capability.
Smoke emerged from Lian's mouth, gradually spreading and enveloping the area. By this time, Golduck had rapidly approached him.
Golduck charged head-on, sending Lian flying, but surprisingly, it felt weaker than Bubble Beam earlier.
After regaining his footing, Lian rubbed his stomach, still feeling some pain. Considering he took three consecutive water-type moves without evading, any ordinary Charmeleon would have already lost its ability to battle.
The Smokescreen provided cover, allowing Lian to create distance. It was now time for his counterattack; otherwise, things might indeed take a turn for the worse.
As smoke filled the battlefield, Blanc couldn't be certain if Golduck had defeated Charmeleon, but he believed the chances were high.
Shortly after, Blanc spotted Charmeleon emerging from the smoke, seemingly more battered than before. It swayed unsteadily, struggling to maintain its footing but remarkably managing not to collapse.
