Chapter 314: Fear The Night : Find It In Darkness
To the west, there were two main fronts to be found, one had been taken completely to the undead's advantages, the ranged support to be found here was multiple steps above the rest, no living could even poke a finger out without being targeted with incredible accuracy, just a few knights of some sort had been dispatched here, if one could call those things knights, for they were just sentient golems turned vampires by the power of the silver blood.
The situation was terrible, but not quite as bad as it was on the other western front, where Antieeld was stationed, the commandant had been suspicious of something foul being at play here, well, the entire siege was foul by nature, the undeads were employing different strategies on every single front, ruling over the battlefield everywhere all the same, they could have just thrown their entire forces without any sort of cohesion or plan and done the same.
But no, they were experimenting various strategies on their own, that was what Antieeld had concluded, not only were they planning on stomping Tamaris, they were going to use this opportunity to do some tests.
Utterly despicable, and she was just waiting for a chance to make them regret this decision, or at least, she had been, as her attention was to be put onto something else at the moment.
Sparks flew, one knee onto the ground, one hand on the hilt of her sabre, one hand on the back of her blade, blocking two heavy blades, those twin weapons were somewhat shaped like the Tochian blades, although much shorter, with no pointed tips and significantly heavier than they had any right to be.
"Attention!
Enemy is within!" with grunt, she pushed herself away from this disadvantageous position and rolled back to her feet, her call was not for naught, but many were still taken completely by surprise, three other healers garbed in ample white clothes, tainted by the blood of wounded soldiers stood up, blades lashing out at soldiers all around, their honed blades making short work of the unsuspecting rank and file. All eyes were on the four people garbed as medical personnel, resulting in even more losses as soldiers that had been lying inert, covered in dreadful wounds, rose without sound, plunging daggers in necks, stabbing spears into guts, or shoving their fingers into the eyes of the people that had been attending to them.
"So Alizée really is undead pawn?" Antieeld remained cool-headed, more than just a little displeased about seeing soldiers get slaughtered by fellow livings, a vein subtly popping on the side of her forehead.
'Milo was right it seems, but where did they show up from? Disappearing completely is one thing, but infiltrating our ranks unnoticed? Especially such a colourful bunch…'
'...A Tochian human, a beastwoman of some sort of spider species, A Pezerxian woman and- A vampire? No way they could have just slipped in without being noticed…' putting the wonder of how they had gotten here aside, she analysed her surroundings attentively.
Four competent warriors, and many former soldiers turned into puppets by the strange concoction that had made Alizée famous, not only this, but soldiers that had not even been injured had suddenly turned completely emotionless as well, were they secretly injected with it too?
Or…
Antieeld deflected two discus of blood, regrouping with the soldiers around that were not turned into marionettes, on the back lines, mages and operators from machinery were the most common, she could not recall the ones fighting outside, turning their backs on the enemy would get them killed for certain, and allowing the undeads to reach the barrier was probably exactly what Alizée hoped to achieve.
The Tochian moved ahead of the rest, kicking off the ground, blade splitting the air as it slammed into the commandant's sabre, the shock went right through Antieeld's arms, pushing her back, her soldiers were here to catch her however, quickly reciprocating, with strikes enhanced by both mana and simple arts, not quite enough to impress the green-bladed swordmaster.
Blood flew right through the air, a slash of red energy carving its way through a soldier to Antieeld's right, partly blocked by a hastily drawn blade, the attack was too strong for him to handle, pinning his own sword against his chest and allowing the red to slice down to his ribs anyways.
"Glory!"
"Brave!"
"Knights!"
Speaking those three words in succession, Antieeld exerted an augmentation upon her surroundings allies, her face scrunching up for a moment, incapable of acting upon what she had just noticed, the green sword lashing out again, forced to stay on the defensive as a spear was thrust at her back, scratching her side, grains of sands brushing past her wound.
The sensation was awful, but she did not forget to stop those grains from finding their way in through that bloody injury, the spider woman had not persevered after launching that slash of red energy, turning her attention to the mages, the poor fools did not stand a chance, the suddenness of the situation had thrown them into disarray, barely managing to weave any spells before being cut down.
'Fucking hell… How many soldiers did they infect with that substance? Are their puppets on other fronts as well?
I need to warn the others-' that was easier said than done however, the spear and sword were not allowing her a second to breath, her soldiers were being cut down one after the other, the vampire and brainwashed people were heading for the soldiers fighting outside, although the undead could not traverse the barrier, that was not her intention, bringing her two blades together, wrapping them into layers of blood, extending the reach of her blade, striking at the barrier from within.
"Don't move!" screaming those words, Antieeld's lips were tainted with blood, exerting her talent as commandant against people not under her orders was rather straining, but it worked, both the Tochian and Pezerxian ceased movements, meanwhile, a green hue gathered around the red-haired woman's sabre, twisting her foot against the ground, twisting the grass and dirt beneath, launching her army slash in record time, swinging her arm so hard that she almost dislocated it at the shoulder.
Falling to one knee with her sudden momentum, she got a hold of the communication item.
"Alizée is amidst our ranks" she did not need to elaborate further for her fellows to understand, and neither could she, the two were already upon her, a strong storm of sand went right over her, flaking her skin.
A flash of green, spitting out sand that had mingled with the blood inside of her mouth, Antieeld did not stand still, and guarded, her hilt of the enemy striking into the commandant's wrist.
An upward slash, Antieeld could see it coming, but her posture made it impossible to avoid effectively.
Her head was certain to be split in two, cursing inside of her mind, she still reinforced herself in hope that it would somehow function, the blade digging into the skin, hitting the bones, a mixture of blood and hair flew up, Antieeld's face staring straight up.
"Huh?"
Half of her vision gone, a soaring pain coming from her left eye, but somehow, she was not dead.
"Commandant! What should we do?!" one of her soldiers had pulled her back at the perfect moment, just barely avoiding death.
Looking back forward, Antieeld, rose one hand up, the soldier helping her get back to her feet.
Seeing something like never before.
Bringing her sabre up to her one good eye.
"You did good soldier, take a step back"
the stampeding of countless feet in unison, the brave war cries of countless.
A unified force, sounding from all around and nowhere at the same time, a light shine coming from the ground, an unknown emblem taking root.
