Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 313: Fear The Night : Do It Yourself

To the east, two main fronts were raging, one was plentiful of death hunters, as this was where their leaders had decided to station themselves, as such, the situation here should have been less desperate, thinking this way would be a mistake.

Undeads not working under minor lords and gravelords, but directly under the king himself were rampaging, death knights and dullahans, the latter, accompanied by their loyal steeds, had ran right through the ranks of the living and inflicted severe damage, quickly leaving and allowing tightly packed death knights to step in, these were all truthful knights, this sort of undead could only be recognised as such when personally appointed by King Nitok, their knighthood sanctioned by The Prince Of Death.

As such, they wielded power far above that the basic trooper, and yet, they were flooding the area as though they were naught but lowest of minions, Abraham, Rummy, Échalas, Tappduur and Latir-e-se had not waited for orders or demands of reinforcements were given to step in, weapons clashing against the sturdy armours of the knights.

The elite undeads were not acting on their own, they moved as one, all wielded spears and were in possession of two side arms, a sword and dagger, thanks to their kings blessing, death was smiling upon them, allowing their weapons to carry some aggressive death force, nothing like Loimos's festering death, but to the living, it was dangerous nonetheless.

This was a gift of death itself, whilst the life imbued and used by the living were forcefully brought out using arts, which were also in use amongst the undeads, all working together, they made themselves as tough as nail, Tappduur unleashed streams of demonic flames enhanced with life arts upon them, two common weaknesses of the dead brought together, and propelled by his powerful physique, coating his warhammer in the same fire, he charged forth to strike through the infernal curtain, it would not remain for long.

Spears came right through anyways, the demon did not stop his charge, from behind his back, Latir-e-se swooped in, her whip-blade lashing out, wrapping around each of the spears, pulling them off track, only scraping against the stronger areas of the Tappduur's armour.

His weapon slammed into the chestplate of one, pushing him back, but not very far as it was caught by another knight, the one that was hit kicked with both legs whilst held up, making the death hunter back off, a line of life-infused bolts came crashing down, concentrated mostly on the knight that had been pushed off balanced, managing to pierce its chestplate.

"Well shit" grabbing the ghoul huntress, the demon stepped well away as he spit another stream of flames, trapped within the armour of the death knights were the souls of the unworthy, the living slayed by their blades that did not deserve to be made into undead, and those souls were under their command, lashing out at the death hunters.

Although technically unworthy, they were still touched by death and susceptible to life force, allowing the life infused flames to be effective against them, following this attempt at breaching the ranks of the death knights, an artillery spell was shot out from behind, result of the work of multiple mages and death hunters, it exploded within the formation of the death knights, destroying none completely, but throwing it all in disarray.

The warriors of life charged as a whole, multiple of the same spells flying soaring through the air accompanied by the flaming boulders, many of the previously shot one had been extinguished, and only few could sense the death knights when they were submerged in their liege's night and miasma.

"Remember, engage and back off! Don't face them for any prolonged period of time!" the general of the front shouted, only the leaders of the hunters could engage a death knight in combat, and considering the amount present here, no one could just fight by themselves here.

Carelessness, a single instant of misjudgement was all that it took for one to be grasp by death, and even as the soldiers heeded the orders, many of them received crippling wounds and were felled by the spears of the death knights, their armour providing basically no protection against direct hits.

On the other eastern front, soldiers were surrounding a singular minor lord, Herlbe hadn't even brought his personal soldiers alongside with him, slaughtering all on his own, the metal claw affixed to his wrist brutally tore apart soldiers by the handful, his weapon not even very sharp, it had been forged by Atsalinopalo alongside the chains, made to incorporate exceptionally durability, forsaking offensive power as the minor lord did not require any help for his strikes to be mortal.

Amongst all of the minor lords, no other could compare to him in terms of durability and regeneration, the revenant was nigh indestructible, the life-infused blades might allow the pesky soldiers of Tamaris to land a few scratches here and there, but they never remained for long.

Instead, they only got cleaved apart as he unwrapped part of the chain tied around his other arm, swinging it around into a circle, luckily for the soldiers, Herlbe was not the swiftest, and his movements were rather easy to read even for a rookie, the goliath was not subtle with it, so many were able of throwing themselves to the ground, feeling the dreadful displacing of her above them, following by hushed cries, tearing of flesh and the familiar sound of rain, only that the instrument was not water here.

"Stay still! Fire!" a single spell struck Herlbe in the chest, work of all mages under this general's command, stacking up damage was utterly ineffective here, so he moved to focus on taking the revenant out in one go.

He gritted his teeth, the bulky corpse did not even show bones after taking it head-on, pumping his chest, howling out with all of his strength, the soundwave carrying the presence of the death tongue, even as the soldiers tried to stand back up, they could not, their entire bodies becoming slack under the dread.

"Cover them!" the general made an assumption, one that was completely wrong, Herlbe did not pick out the vulnerable soldiers, what for after all? They were no threat, and paralysed outside, the royal miasma would eventually overcome their nifty tools.

No, he launched himself directly at the barrier, all took a step back or fell on their butts, the revenant's shoulder tightly pressed against the pyramid, obviously, the surface was not perfectly flat, part of the strength behind his charge was lost, but it did not matter much, cracks still appeared for a moment.

The efforts of Nitok's burrowing and airborne forces were pulling their weight completely as they could not be stopped at all, the barrier was fragilised, and bringing his full might against it was certain to leave marks.

"Dammit! Get him off of here!" the general felt cold sweat crawling on his back, the sight of cracks upon the barrier almost made him swallow his own words, grasping his halberd, circulating his mana, he was going to step in.

"Mages! Cast your spells on me! Soldiers here, prepare to venture outside and get your comrades back! I'll be taking the big guy's attention…"
