The fire crackled in the distance, remnants of the battle still smouldering in the air. The Straw Hats gathered around Buggy, eyes locked on him. Even Franky, who usually had little patience for storytelling, was listening intently.
Buggy took a deep breath. "Alright… you wanna hear the truth? Fine. But don't blame me if it breaks your mind."
Zoro scoffed. "Just get on with it."
Buggy's smirk faded. "Long before Roger, before the World Government even existed—there was a man. A pirate who ruled the seas. A man who challenged the gods themselves."
He clenched his fist.
"He was the first King of the Pirates… and the one who found the true One Piece."
Luffy leaned forward. "The true One Piece?"
Buggy nodded. "What you're looking for at Laugh Tale? That's not the real treasure. It's only a part of it. The actual One Piece? It was something much bigger… something that even Roger couldn't obtain."
Robin's eyes narrowed. "And this so-called first Pirate King… what happened to him?"
Buggy's expression darkened. "He vanished. His name was erased, his crew wiped from history. And the ones who did it? The ones who betrayed him?"
He met their gazes.
"They became the World Government."
The air grew heavy.
Franky's jaw dropped. "Wait, WHAT?!"
Sanji flicked his cigarette. "So you're saying the people running the world today… were PIRATES?"
"Not just pirates," Buggy corrected. "They were the strongest crew to ever sail the seas. And their captain… he wasn't just any pirate. He was the original wielder of the Ring."
Silence.
Luffy looked down at the ring in Buggy's hand. "So this belonged to him?"
Buggy nodded. "The Ring was his proof of kingship. The one thing that could control the ancient power hidden in Mordor."
Zoro crossed his arms. "And let me guess—Imu stole it?"
Buggy's smirk returned. "Not exactly. The Ring was lost after the final war. Some say the first Pirate King threw it into the depths of the Grand Line, hoping no one would ever find it again." He lifted the Ring. "But guess what? It was never lost."
Robin took a step forward. "Then why hasn't Imu used it?"
Buggy's expression turned grim. "Because Imu CAN'T. The Ring only obeys its true master. That's why Imu has been searching for it for centuries—because whoever controls the Ring…"
He met Luffy's gaze.
"Controls the fate of the world."
Luffy grinned. "Then I guess it's mine now, huh?"
Buggy stared at him. Then—he burst into laughter.
"BAHAHAHAHA! You really are insane!" He wiped a tear from his eye. "But yeah… if you can master it, you might just become the next King of the Pirates."
Luffy held out his hand. "Then gimme."
Buggy's smirk widened. "Not so fast, Straw Hat. This isn't just some toy. If you wanna claim it… you gotta prove you're worthy."
Luffy tilted his head. "How?"
Buggy pointed to the horizon.
"By surviving what's coming next."
Lightning crackled in the sky.
And then—
A shadow loomed over them.
A monstrous, hulking figure clad in black armour emerged from the storm. His glowing red eyes burned like fire. The air around him shimmered with power.
Usopp gulped. "W-Who the hell is THAT?!"
Buggy grinned.
"Meet your first real challenge, Straw Hat."
The figure raised a massive sword.
And then—he charged.
