Chapter 72: Chapter 72: BIG MOM’s Extreme Sweet Tooth

King Loz let out a deep sigh and began explaining the situation.

"Our Loz Kingdom may not be a major power, but our citizens enjoy a comfortable life comparable to those of larger nations. This is because our country has one unique trait—we are masters of confectionery.

Almost every citizen here is skilled in making desserts, and thanks to our creativity, many nations purchase sweets from us. We even have an efficient distribution system to support our people in selling them."

"This would normally be a good thing… but it attracted the attention of the BIG MOM Pirates.

They demanded that our country pay a yearly tribute of a massive portion of our sweets—or else they would destroy us."

"We couldn't possibly resist the BIG MOM Pirates, so we sent a request for Marine assistance. But we never expected that the only response we'd get would be… you."

"They gave us half a month to decide. Tomorrow is the deadline. If nothing changes, Loz will be finished."

As King Loz spoke, his expression grew more and more dejected. It was obvious—he had no faith in Jon's squad.

"Sweets? That's it? All this over desserts?"

The Marines except for Jon were completely dumbfounded.

None of them truly understood the nature of the BIG MOM Pirates or Charlotte Linlin herself.

To most people, destroying an entire country over desserts sounded ridiculous.

But Jon knew better.

BIG MOM was no ordinary pirate—she was a lunatic.

In the anime, she once went on a rampage over a single missing cake, nearly destroying her own kingdom in the process.

This was exactly the kind of thing she would do.

Jon's voice was serious as he said, "Charlotte Linlin has an extreme addiction to sweets. If it's about desserts, she absolutely would attack a country."

King Loz frowned in dissatisfaction. "If you already know how dangerous she is, then why did the Marines only send a handful of men?"

Jon replied coldly, "The Marines have our own difficulties. Sending us was already the best option available. But since we are here, we will do everything necessary to resolve this issue."

King Loz still didn't believe him. "I don't think you can do it. You should contact your Marine higher-ups immediately—preferably send for Admiral Sengoku. He would definitely be able to stop BIG MOM."

Jon stared at the king in shock.

This guy sure has high expectations…

He actually wanted Sengoku himself to intervene?

Currently, the Marine Headquarters only had two active Admirals—one of whom, Zephyr, was semi-retired.

The entire burden of leading the Marines fell on Sengoku, who was already preoccupied with Shiki the Golden Lion's growing power.

There was no way Sengoku would have time for this.

"Admiral Sengoku is busy. He has no time."

"You Marines are irresponsible! The World Government doesn't care about us affiliated nations at all!"

The prince of Loz, who was still bound by Jon's powers, shouted in anger.

Jon's expression darkened.

"The New World is in complete chaos right now. There are many nations facing threats like yours.

Admiral Sengoku is only one man—he can't be everywhere at once."

"Enough."

King Loz interrupted.

Although his eyes were filled with doubt, he knew he had no other options.

Tomorrow was the deadline—even if Sengoku were free, it would already be too late for him to arrive.

"If you're claiming you can deal with the BIG MOM Pirates, you better not fail.

Otherwise, don't blame me for filing a complaint with the Marines."

At this point, King Loz was treating them like a last resort.

His worst-case scenario was still giving in to BIG MOM's demands—they would suffer, but at least the country wouldn't be destroyed.

After all, Charlotte Linlin valued sweets above all else.

Jon shrugged indifferently.

"Do whatever you want. The deadline is tomorrow, right?

Then tomorrow, we'll face the BIG MOM Pirates."

He didn't care about complaints.

Even if a king filed a report, it wouldn't affect the Marine system at all.

"Your Majesty, there's no need to arrange accommodations for us.

We will stay on our warship.

If the BIG MOM Pirates arrive tomorrow, inform us immediately."

Jon didn't want to waste any more time arguing, so after saying his piece, he turned and left with his squad.

"Hey! Let me go! You bastard, let me go!"

Jon had completely forgotten about the prince, who was still bound by the tree vines.

"Oh, right—I forgot about you. My bad."

Jon waved his hand lazily.

The vines slowly unwrapped, finally freeing the prince.

As they watched Jon leave, the prince gritted his teeth in frustration.

"Father, those Marines can't be trusted. We should prepare for the worst."

King Loz let out a heavy sigh.

Although his son's words were harsh, he agreed.

Those Marines were just kids—he couldn't place his trust in them.

"If we have no choice, we will surrender to the BIG MOM Pirates.

If we raise their flag, then even the World Government won't be able to retaliate against us.

It's their fault for sending such useless reinforcements."

"The Heavenly Tribute we pay every four years is already a heavy burden.

But compared to BIG MOM's outrageous demands, what we stand to lose is far worse."

"Those Marines brag about being the strongest military force on the seas, but they can't even protect us from a pirate crew.

What a joke." The prince scoffed coldly.

At that moment, a loud rustling sound echoed through the throne room.

The prince stumbled forward, nearly falling over.

Annoyed, he turned around, ready to curse—but then he froze in shock.

The same tree that had bound him was now growing at an unnatural speed—expanding far beyond normal biology.

The entire palace shook as the tree's massive trunk pierced through the ceiling, continuing to grow skyward.

The king and his guards watched in awe as the tree towered over the palace.

It was so thick that it would take several people holding hands to wrap around it.

Only trees that had grown for centuries should have been this massive.

The prince finally snapped out of his shock and yelled in rage.

"It's him! That Marine did this! He's getting back at us!"

And he was right.

Jon had heard every word of their mockery—so he sped up the tree's growth just to teach them a lesson.

King Loz was also shaken by what he had just witnessed.

As a king, he understood Devil Fruits.

He could now confirm that Jon was a Devil Fruit user.

For the first time, he felt a flicker of hope.

"That young Commander… he might actually have some skill.

But… will it be enough against the BIG MOM Pirates?"
