One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Future Admiral Candidate

After a moment of reflection, Tsuru finally explained the details of the mission.

"Jon, this time, you're not dealing with an ordinary pirate crew—it's the BIG MOM Pirates."

Hearing this, Jon's expression changed. The BIG MOM Pirates? He had heard of them long ago.

Not only in this world, but even in his previous life, Jon was very familiar with this pirate crew.

The future Yonko BIG MOM, Charlotte Linlin, leads this group. With her immense power, she rules over Totland and commands a massive pirate empire.

Though in the anime Charlotte Linlin may not have initially seemed as terrifying as Whitebeard, in reality, she is a monstrous presence.

Currently, the BIG MOM Pirates have yet to reach their peak. Linlin's vast "family business" is still in its early stages, and it's far from the dozens of children she will have in thirty years.

Even so, the BIG MOM Pirates are already a force to be reckoned with. They are a renowned and powerful crew in the New World.

Charlotte Linlin may only be in her thirties now, but she has been a pirate for almost as long. She was once a prominent officer in the Rocks Pirates, even more senior than Kaido.

Jon hadn't expected the mission to involve the BIG MOM Pirates, which made him feel a bit uneasy.

Although he had confidence in his abilities, Charlotte Linlin's fearsome reputation was undeniable. His current strength likely fell far short of hers.

"Will I have to face Charlotte Linlin directly?" Jon asked Tsuru.

Tsuru responded seriously, "It's uncertain, but it's highly unlikely that Charlotte Linlin will personally act. If she had, the country requesting help wouldn't have lasted this long."

Charlotte Linlin's destructive power was beyond doubt. If she had taken the field herself, the island nation would have been obliterated long before they could send a request for aid.

Hearing this, Jon felt relieved. While the BIG MOM Pirates were undeniably powerful, they were largely reliant on Linlin herself. At this point, her children were likely only in their twenties and hadn't yet grown into the threats they would later become.

As long as they didn't encounter Charlotte Linlin directly, Jon felt confident in handling the mission.

But Tsuru's next words made his face fall.

"If you do encounter Charlotte Linlin, you have permission to abandon the mission. Right now, she is not someone you can handle."

The Navy Headquarters had amassed extensive intelligence on Charlotte Linlin. She was one of the most brutal pirates on the seas, and even in the New World, her strength ranked among the very top.

Jon and the other young Marines might have potential and respectable strength, but they were far from being her match at the moment. If they encountered her, retreating would be the only sensible option.

"Alright, go prepare," Tsuru said.

After Jon left, Tsuru's expression turned serious as she gave further instructions to Gion.

"Gion, your task this time won't be easy either. Keep a close eye on Jon. That boy has a strong adventurous spirit, and I'm worried he might mishandle certain situations. Take a Den Den Mushi with you, and if anything goes wrong, contact me immediately."

Gion nodded without hesitation. "Yes, Vice Admiral."

Back at the dormitory, Jon immediately went to find Pebberton.

"Pebberton, I'm heading out to lead a mission this afternoon. Want to come with me?"

"You're going out to sea? And you're leading?"

Pebberton was shocked. What was going on? Just yesterday, Jon had been complaining about being a hero with no opportunities, and now he was leading a mission?

Jon smiled faintly. "Yes, Vice Admiral Tsuru assigned me to help a nation deal with a pirate problem. I'm asking if you want to join me."

He wanted Pebberton to come along because they were good friends. Pebberton was also a capable fighter, and having him on the team would be a great asset.

"This..."

Pebberton hesitated. His uncle had warned him to stay at the base to avoid danger. If he joined Jon, it would be hard to explain to his uncle.

But on the other hand, if he stayed behind, he'd be bored out of his mind. He trusted Jon, and if Jon left, there'd be no one to talk to at the G1 base.

"Is it dangerous?" Pebberton asked after thinking for a while.

Jon rolled his eyes. "Seriously, brother? You're that cautious?"

"I can't guarantee it won't be dangerous. We'll likely be dealing with the BIG MOM Pirates. If you want to come, I'll have Vice Admiral Tsuru transfer you to my team. If you're too scared, then forget it."

"BIG MOM? That's a monster of a pirate!"

Hearing the name BIG MOM Pirates, Pebberton hesitated even more. He had been in the New World long enough to know how terrifying BIG MOM was.

"Forget whether she's a monster or not. We might not even run into her. It'll probably be one of her subordinates. Stop overthinking it. Are you in or not? I don't have time to waste—I'm leaving this afternoon."

Jon urged him impatiently.

"… Fine! I'll go with you."

After a long pause, Pebberton finally made up his mind. He couldn't stand the idea of staying behind alone while Jon was gone.

"That's more like it."

Jon grinned. He was glad Pebberton decided to come along. After all, he didn't have many close friends at the base. Pebberton was one of the few, and the others, like Borsalino, had already left.

"Pack your things quickly. We might be gone for a while."

According to Tsuru, the nation requesting help was far from the G1 base. The trip there and back, plus the time spent dealing with the pirates, would likely take at least a month or longer.

"Got it. Let me know when it's time to leave," Pebberton said as he disappeared into his room to pack.

3 PM, G1 Base Port

"Jon, you're late!"

Gion shouted angrily at Jon, startling him. What was with this woman? Did she eat gunpowder for lunch?

He checked the time—it was exactly 3 PM. He wasn't late at all. Jon was confused.

After being stood up by Garp a few times, Jon had grown used to arriving precisely on time. Tsuru had said 3 PM, so he came exactly at 3 PM.

While he was still puzzled, a man in a tea-colored outfit, wearing geta sandals and a matching hat, approached. The man had a cigar in his mouth and wore a Marine justice cloak.

"Commander Jon, Captain Kaji reporting for duty," the man said.

With his hands in his pockets, the man walked up to Jon lazily, gave a casual salute, and spoke in an unhurried manner.

Jon was stunned. "You're the deputy Vice Admiral Tsuru assigned to me?"

"Yes," Kaji replied, taking a drag of his cigar.

Jon's lips twitched. Damn, this lineup was ridiculous. The commanding officer was himself, a commander, and the deputy was just a captain. On top of that, Kaji had this smug, laid-back attitude. Was this really the "strong newcomer" Tsuru had mentioned?
