Chapter 518: Chapter 518: Evil God Religion!
Reiki's diligence and friendly demeanor quickly won over the people in the village. Not only did they accept him as one of their own, but they also gifted him seeds—a treasure in a poor village like this. He now had a small plot of land to his name, further cementing his cover as part of the community.
"Brother Reiki is here? My arm's dislocated again. Can I trouble you?" called a familiar voice.
Reiki had been using shadow clones to scan the surrounding area for signs of ninja activity. For a week, the effort yielded no results—no tracks, no signs of chakra use, no clues. Yet, Reiki persisted, expanding his search radius while maintaining his daily presence in the village.
"Here I am," Reiki greeted Dao Chi as he stepped into the house. "Brother Dao Chi, you really need to be more careful. You're making dislocating your arm a habit at this point."
Dao Chi chuckled nervously. "What can I do? I'm the only man in the family. The women can't do the heavy lifting."
Reiki sighed, finishing his treatment. "It's healed now, but you've got to rest. No more heavy work for a while."
Dao Chi scratched his head. "I'll try, but there's so much to do—"
Suddenly, Reiki stiffened. His chakra barrier, set up to detect ninja activity, had been triggered.
"Brother Dao Chi, I can't join you for work today. Something urgent has come up." Reiki darted out the door, heading toward the village entrance.
At the entrance, four ninjas stood with smug, arrogant expressions.
"I'm tired of this village," one of them muttered. "Let's just take everyone this time and be done with it."
"But we need auxiliary sacrifices," another replied. "The rest of the villagers should suffice."
The young ninja sneered, impatience clear in his tone. "This is getting boring. Picking one village at a time—it's a waste."
"Careful," the older, middle-aged ninja warned. "The Ninja Alliance has started investigating. We've been lucky so far, but if you want to fight them, you're on your own."
The group entered the village, the middle-aged ninja heading directly for his favorite victim, muttering, "This will probably be my last time here."
Before the young ninja could voice another complaint, a powerful chakra pressure filled the air. The weight of it made all four pause, their instincts screaming danger.
"Who are you?" the middle-aged ninja demanded, turning to see Reiki stepping into view.
"I thought it might be some mysterious organization," Reiki said coldly, his chakra flaring. "Turns out, it's just rats like you, scurrying in the dark."
Reiki's gaze landed on their arm bands, which bore the unmistakable insignia of the Evil God Cult. His lips curled in disdain as he pieced together the truth: these "sacrifices" were for their twisted rituals.
"Reiki, run!" Dao Chi called out, rushing toward the commotion. He'd returned to ask Reiki for help with cultivating a field but now froze in panic. "These ninjas... they'll kill you!"
Reiki turned his head slightly, offering a reassuring smile. "I know, Brother Dao Chi. But I'm not worried about them hurting me. Go back and let me handle this."
In an instant, Reiki disappeared. He reappeared behind the four ninjas, a massive, blood-drenched blade in his hand.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
With three swift swings, three of the ninjas fell lifeless to the ground. Only the middle-aged ninja remained standing, trembling as he realized the gulf between their power.
"Brother Sekiichiro," Reiki said calmly, not even sparing the terrified man another glance. "Tell the villagers to prepare to leave. I've found a safer place for all of you. Stay here no longer—I'll handle the rest."
Sekiichiro hesitated, fear etched on his face. But seeing Reiki's calm confidence, he nodded and rushed back to the village to spread the word.
The remaining ninja stammered, "Who... who are you? You're not from this village. Why interfere with our work? You'll regret crossing the Evil God Cult!"
"Pfft!" Reiki scoffed, swinging his blade again. "Noisy."
The man's words were cut short as the blade struck, blood spraying before he crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
The last two ninjas, who had only been maimed in Reiki's initial attack, writhed on the ground, their legs severed. They were lucky, in a twisted sense—Reiki had other plans for them.
"Now then," Reiki said, kneeling beside one of the wounded. "I have a few questions for you. Don't worry—I'll treat your injuries first. You'll need to be in good shape to answer properly."
As he infused healing chakra into the injured men, his tone turned ominous. "Of course, if you don't cooperate, I can always give you more injuries to fix."
The two men stared at him, their fear mounting. They realized that whatever they had stumbled into was far beyond their control. This was no ordinary ninja.
