Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Intercepting the Ōtsutsuki of the Moon
Akira turned to Fugaku and Shisui, saying, "Let's clean up the battlefield first. After that, drive the Iwagakure and Kumogakure forces out of the border. I'll try to use the Spirit Transformation Technique to track the enemies from earlier."
"Shisui, you handle it. I'll stay and guard Akira," Fugaku replied, glancing at Shisui.
As Shisui departed, Akira swiftly formed hand seals, and a semi-transparent spiritual form stepped out of his body.
The moment his spirit form emerged, Akira's face revealed astonishment.
But it wasn't because he had found Uchiha Hikaru or Nagato. What surprised him was the presence of ten familiar chakra signatures within Konohagakure—specifically, in the Hyūga Clan's compound.
"The Ōtsutsuki Clan of the Moon sure knows how to pick their timing..." Akira thought grimly.
After a brief contemplation, he deduced their plan. It was obvious—they were here to steal Byakugan from the Hyūga, enabling Toneri to awaken the Tenseigan.
Sensing their movements, Akira frowned. "Looks like they've succeeded!"
From his perception, the Ōtsutsuki of the Moon were already retreating from Konoha, with the village's shinobi chasing them on the ground.
The Byakugan was far too important to let them take it away so easily.
Aside from detecting the Ōtsutsuki's chakra, Akira couldn't sense the chakra of the Five-Tails or Hikaru. It was evident that the Akatsuki had moved swiftly.
Akira turned to Fugaku, his voice low and serious. "Something's happened in the village. I need to head back immediately."
Before Fugaku could respond, Akira vanished into thin air.
"The village is in trouble?" Fugaku muttered, startled. He hadn't even had time to speak when Akira disappeared.
"Just like Minato back in the day... coming and going like a ghost. Space-Time Ninjutsu truly is unfathomable," Fugaku mused with a wry smile. But his expression soon turned grave.
"What could have happened in the village? Did the Akatsuki launch a surprise attack on our defenseless forces?" The thought made Fugaku's face darken.
At this moment, Konoha was more vulnerable than ever, with only a thousand shinobi stationed—mostly genin, with only a handful of chunin and jonin remaining.
"If the village is attacked now, it could be disastrous..." Fugaku muttered, his expression heavy.
...
Several kilometers away from Konoha...
Ten carts soared through the air, each carrying a person, accompanied by several figures moving alongside them. It was the Ōtsutsuki Clan from the Moon.
Ōtsutsuki Mari glanced at Ōtsutsuki Shefei, her face brimming with joy.
"Clan Leader, this went perfectly!"
Shefei nodded, equally pleased. "Who would've thought Konoha would be so defenseless? Such a large village, yet barely any guards... Ha!"
Hearing his laughter, Mari chuckled disdainfully. "The Hyūga Clan's main family in the shinobi world has grown far too complacent. They've lived in peace for so long that even their combat instincts have dulled. Truly pathetic. It seems our decision to annihilate the main family back then was the right one."
Shefei spoke with pride, "Of course, it was the right decision. They never could have unleashed the true potential of the Byakugan. Only we are capable of that."
"The Tenseigan... The Tenseigan is the ultimate destiny of the Byakugan!" Shefei's voice was filled with fervor.
Suddenly, a sharp ripping sound echoed. One of the airborne carts was sliced cleanly in half, along with the person inside, by a blade of light that appeared out of nowhere.
The driver of the cart was instantly killed, and the three puppets guarding it lost power, plummeting to the ground.
The Ōtsutsuki barely had time to react to Akira's ambush.
"So, even in the shinobi world, they can still tap into the Tenseigan's power... That eye is far stronger than I imagined," Akira thought to himself.
These Moon Ōtsutsuki were not pure-blooded, and their ability to fly in the shinobi world relied entirely on the borrowed power of the Tenseigan.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Akira propelled himself off the wreckage of the destroyed cart, flashing to the side of another target.
A gleaming blade flashed, and the second target fell to Akira's swift attack.
Shefei's expression grew grim, and he shouted, "Retreat! This one is too strong! Don't get bogged down in a fight. Shinobi in this world rarely have the ability to fly. Let's move quickly!"
Utilizing the power of the Tenseigan, he had already observed Akira's formidable strength.
This man was nothing like the shinobi they had encountered in Konoha. The chakra coursing through him rivaled even that of the figure who had once caused havoc on the Moon—a truly terrifying force.
Shefei knew with certainty that if they stayed to fight, they would all perish.
Hearing his command, the remaining Ōtsutsuki hesitated no further, immediately piloting their carts to escape at full speed. The puppets surrounding them surged toward Akira, aiming to stall him.
These puppets, imbued with Tenseigan's energy and capable of independent thought, were far superior to the lifeless constructs of the shinobi world.
Watching the puppets rush toward him, Akira frowned, his chakra flaring black.
In an instant, the half-body form of his Susanoo, clad in tengu-like armor, manifested around him.
"Yasaka Magatama!"
(T/N: Yasaka Magatama is a technique that Susanoo users can use from any of its hands. Due to its structure, it acts in a similar manner to that of a shuriken when thrown by Susanoo — rapidly spinning towards the intended target — and results in an explosion upon impact.)
Moments later, pitch-black Magatama beads, linked like a chain, shot forward.
The beads sliced through the air like living projectiles, carving through the attacking puppets with precision. Each impact turned them to dust.
But the brief delay allowed the fleeing Ōtsutsuki to shrink into the distance, nearing the edge of Akira's vision.
"Damn it! Not being able to fly is such a pain!" Akira cursed under his breath. His Mangekyō Sharingan flared, and his Susano'o grew to its colossal, fully-armored form.
"A sledgehammer for a fly..." Akira muttered with a hint of self-mockery as he launched himself skyward, pursuing the escaping enemies.
"What the—!? How does Konoha have such a monster!?" Shefei exclaimed, his face ashen as he sensed the immense power surging behind them.
The other Ōtsutsuki were equally stricken with panic. The overwhelming presence behind them was enough to make their blood run cold.
Using the Tenseigan's power, they saw a figure of godlike proportions closing in—an unstoppable titan.
"No choice... I'll stop him. The rest of you, keep going!" Shefei roared, his body erupting with a brilliant green glow.
He channeled more power from the Tenseigan than ever before, bracing for the fight of his life.
