Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Enemy Retreats
"Hahaha… this is exactly what I've been waiting for!" Hikaru's triumphant laughter echoed from within her majestic Susanoo.
In the next instant, the Tailed Beast Bombs, fused with Amaterasu's black flames, reversed their course and launched straight toward Akira's twin Susanoo avatars.
"Explode for me!"
Even before the Tailed Beast Bombs could fully detach from Hikaru's Susanoo, they detonated violently.
In a flash, searing light and scorching heat engulfed both Akira and Hikaru.
From the initial battlefield, the surviving Konoha shinobi stood frozen, staring in disbelief at the cataclysmic explosion in the distance.
The shockwave alone rivaled the destructive force of a large-scale Wind Release jutsu!
As the smoke and dust gradually cleared, only Hikaru's heavily damaged Susanoo remained standing.
Even with the unparalleled defense of her armored Susanoo, it was impossible to emerge unscathed from such an explosion.
The Five-Tails, Kokuō, wasn't in much better shape. All five tails were severed, and its massive frame bore gruesome injuries. Blood flowed freely, pooling beneath it into a crimson lake.
Perched atop Kokuō's head, Uchiha Hikaru scanned her surroundings with crimson Sharingan eyes, her expression wary.
Her own condition was dire—blood streamed from her eyes, and her once flawless face was marred with scars. Despite her injuries, she remained alert, refusing to let her guard down.
After a tense silence, with no sign of Akira, Hikaru's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
"Hahaha… finally dead!"
But before her smile could fully form, a streak of black lightning charged toward her from behind—Kamui!
However, as if anticipating this, Hikaru's figure blurred, evading the sneak attack with ease.
"As expected, someone with space-time ninjutsu isn't so easy to kill." Her voice was icy as she locked eyes with Akira, who had reappeared behind Kokuō.
Before Akira could respond, the sharp whistle of another attack pierced the air—a black-flame arrow shot straight toward him.
Forced to activate intangibility, Akira phased through the attack.
Meanwhile, Hikaru's bloodied eyes bled further as her Susanoo began to reform around Kokuō. This time, Amaterasu flames spread with the armor, adding a deadly black inferno to its already formidable defense.
"This lunatic…" Akira muttered under his breath, retreating swiftly.
Seeing Akira withdraw, Hikaru knew she couldn't maintain the upper hand.
"I can't defeat him in my current state. I'll have to retreat for now," she thought grimly.
Her decision made, Kokuō, clad in the blackened Susanoo, bolted across the battlefield, covering thousands of meters in moments.
Under Hikaru's control, the beast scooped up a chunk of the Four-Tails' remains and disappeared into the distant mountains in mere seconds.
Akira could only watch helplessly—Kamui wasn't fast enough to lock onto her at that speed.
Though she hadn't achieved her primary goal, Hikaru managed to secure enough of the tailed beasts to further her ambitions toward the power of the Ten-Tails.
Akira's gaze was heavy as he watched her retreat. Her unexpected appearance had thrown everything into disarray.
After gathering the scattered remains of the Four-Tails and Five-Tails, Akira began to clean up the battlefield. Not long after, Fugaku and Shisui arrived with a group of uninjured Konoha shinobi.
Fugaku approached quickly, a hint of urgency in his voice. "Akira, what happened?"
Shisui and the others, including elite jonin like Nara Shikaku and Yamanaka Inoichi, also looked over with questioning eyes.
"I killed the Four-Tails. She escaped with the Five-Tails," Akira replied evenly.
Hearing this, the gathered Konoha shinobi sighed in relief, though regret lingered in their expressions.
Not being able to eliminate such a dangerous foe meant future trouble for Konoha.
"Who exactly was that woman? Do you know?" Fugaku hesitated briefly before voicing the question. It was better to address such matters openly.
"She's a relic of our Uchiha clan's past sins," Akira began, his voice calm yet somber. "Long ago, in our struggle against the Senju, our ancestors created a weapon…"
As Akira recounted the tale, understanding dawned on Fugaku's face. What had initially slipped his mind now became clear through Akira's explanation.
The other Konoha shinobi exchanged uneasy glances. While the root of the issue stemmed from the Uchiha's actions, blaming the current generation felt unfair.
"It's a complicated matter," Fugaku said after a moment. "For now, let's leave it at that. What's the situation with Iwagakure?"
Fugaku's tone turned grim. "Onoki fled amidst the chaos, but we managed to capture his son, Kitsuchi. The Iwa forces suffered heavy casualties—over half are dead or injured, and we've taken nearly a thousand prisoners."
"The old fox slipped away… not surprising. Capturing Kitsuchi is a decent consolation," Akira remarked, seemingly unbothered.
"How did things go on your side?" Nara Shikaku asked.
"There were some unexpected developments," Akira admitted, "but nothing critical. We captured the Fourth Raikage, and Kumogakure's forces are effectively annihilated."
At this, the shinobi present couldn't hide their joy.
"This is fantastic news! Konoha has achieved a decisive victory!"
"Haha, as expected of the Uchiha clan! Without Akira, we'd have faced total defeat!"
"Indeed! Akira's timely intervention saved us all!"
Amid the murmurs of celebration, Akira's voice cut through.
"What are our casualties?"
The atmosphere instantly grew somber.
Nara Shikaku spoke with a heavy heart. "We've confirmed 654 dead and over 700 injured to varying degrees. More than half of our forces have fallen or been wounded."
Akira nodded solemnly. "A heavy toll indeed. We can't continue the fight in this state. Let's hold our position for now."
The others agreed—despite their victories, the cost had been steep.
Konoha had crippled Iwagakure and Kumogakure. With their jinchūriki gone, and even Onoki's son captured, both villages were effectively paralyzed.
