Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Targeting the Gedo Statue

"Don't even think about it!" Akira wasted no time. Activating his intangibility, he dove toward the Eight-Tails bound to the ground.

"Don't even think about it!" Nagato roared, controlling the wooden figure to intercept him, determined to stop the attack.

"Fire Style: Hiding in Ash and Dust Technique!" Hanzo opened his mouth and unleashed a dense cloud of ash, rapidly spreading and enveloping the battlefield in thick smoke.

Meanwhile, Nagato's wooden arms relentlessly attacked.

In his intangible state, Uchiha Akira's fully formed Susanoo could not affect the physical world. He plunged into the swirling smoke, disappearing into the haze.

"He's gone! Is Akira still unable to attack while intangible?"

Nagato's heart tensed as his wooden figure's punch struck nothing but air. This was a carefully calculated move—if Akira had tried to harm the Eight-Tails, the wooden figure's strike would have hit his Susanoo directly.

But now, the wooden figure's attack had missed, leaving Nagato on high alert.

The thick ash cloud obstructed not just the Sharingan and Byakugan but also Nagato's Rinnegan. He could see nothing.

Suddenly, an agonizing howl pierced through the smoke—a desperate cry from the Eight-Tails, as if it were in its final throes.

The ash cloud churned violently, and the clanging of chains echoed amidst the chaos. It was clear the Eight-Tails was thrashing wildly inside.

"Not good! Akira has dispelled his Susanoo!" Nagato's face twisted in realization. He understood what had happened.

It was obvious—Akira had deactivated his Susanoo and was using some sort of space-time ninjutsu to attempt to kill the Eight-Tails.

Nagato's guess was spot-on. After entering the ash cloud, Akira had dispelled his Susanoo and moved directly beside the Eight-Tails.

Bound by the Gedo Statue's chains, the Eight-Tails resisted Akira's attempts to absorb it.

No, "resistance" wasn't the right word—the absorption process was slow. To fully absorb the Eight-Tails, Akira would have to take the Gedo Statue along with it.

Realizing this, Akira changed tactics. Without hesitation, he unleashed a blade of Kamui-infused lightning, slashing through the chains binding the Eight-Tails and severing it from the Gedo Statue in one strike.

Akira then wasted no time. Activating Kamui, he absorbed half of the Eight-Tails into his personal dimension.

The other half, however, was swallowed by the Gedo Statue, its chains rattling as it devoured the remains.

"Shinra Tensei!" Nagato's deep voice echoed.

An invisible force erupted, dispersing the ash cloud in an instant and revealing the battlefield.

Nagato's heart sank at the sight. On the ground below were four identical Akiras. Two of them, wielding blades of black lightning, had already closed in on the Gedo Statue.

"Not good! Is he using that eye technique again?" Nagato's mind raced, panic setting in as he quickly formed hand seals to release the summoning jutsu.

The Gedo Statue could only remain on the battlefield for a limited time. If the summoning wasn't canceled before its limit, it would need to be dispelled actively—either by the summoner or the summoned being itself.

Theoretically, those four Akiras could all be Shadow Clones, but Nagato couldn't take that chance.

Hanzo, standing nearby, raised his hands.

"Shinra Tensei!" he shouted.

Boom! Boom!

A wave of crushing force swept across the battlefield, obliterating the four Akiras. They exploded into plumes of white smoke.

"Just Shadow Clones?" Nagato froze in disbelief. The next moment, his face darkened.

Uchiha Akira reappeared—this time on the Gedo Statue's shoulder.

The moment he emerged, space rippled around him in vortex-like waves—a prelude to the Gedo Statue being absorbed into Kamui's dimension.

Before Nagato's eyes, the Gedo Statue's left arm began dissolving into the swirling space-time vortex.

The statue's massive size made it impossible for Kamui to absorb it instantly, requiring a brief delay.

"Kamui!"

Suddenly, another voice echoed across the battlefield.

A second Akira stood at a distance, his crimson Sharingan locked onto the Gedo Statue's head.

"Don't even think about it!"

Nagato commanded the Gedo Statue to roar and charge forward, breaking Kamui's lock. The statue's other hand rose to shield its head, ensuring Akira couldn't get a direct line of sight.

Nagato clenched his fists. He couldn't risk the statue losing its head—it might render the Gedo Statue unusable.

Around the statue, wooden hands sprouted sharp spikes, which shot toward Akira like a hail of spears.

Forced to abandon the absorption process, Akira shifted into his intangible state to avoid the attack.

Even though he halted the absorption, the Gedo Statue wouldn't regain what had already been absorbed. Kamui's space-time passage severed the connection, cutting off the statue's left arm and part of its shoulder entirely.

"Fire Style: Hiding in Ash and Dust Technique!"

Akira's voice echoed near the wounded statue.

This wasn't a technique Nagato could use alone. Now, two Akiras executed it simultaneously, filling the battlefield with another wave of dense smoke.

In the next moment, a black pillar of light pierced through the smoke. A fully formed Susanoo emerged, wings spread wide, enveloping the Gedo Statue like a massive black cocoon.

"It's over," Nagato thought in despair. Breaking through that complete Susanoo would take far too long—enough time for Akira to absorb the statue entirely.

True to Nagato's fears, the Susanoo dissipated on its own moments later, revealing Akira standing triumphantly.

With the Gedo Statue now sealed in his Kamui dimension, Akira looked at Nagato with a smug expression.

"I'd love to see how you plan to recover from this!"

The Gedo Statue was undoubtedly crucial. Without it, the Ten-Tails and the Infinite Tsukuyomi were nothing but fantasies—unrealized dreams.

Now that the statue was gone, Nagato's plans were in shambles.

Nagato clenched his fists. Akira clearly knew too much, seizing even a pivotal object like the Gedo Statue.

For a moment, Nagato felt despair. All his years of effort now seemed utterly wasted.

Suddenly, a voice whispered into his mind—it was Black Zetsu.

"Nagato, don't worry about the statue. As long as you have the Rinnegan, it doesn't matter where he hides it. The Rinnegan can summon the statue anytime. Its loyalty to the Rinnegan is absolute."

Hearing this, Nagato exhaled in relief.

He had almost thought his entire plan was doomed.
