Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Gekko Hayate
After leaving the Konoha Police Force headquarters, Uchiha Mirai headed straight to the Hokage Tower.
Inside the Hokage's office, the atmosphere was heavy with change. Ever since Sarutobi Hiruzen's arrest, the influence of the Sarutobi faction had crumbled entirely.
The coup had gone smoother than anyone could have anticipated, with almost no resistance. In a matter of days, Uchiha Mirai had seized control of every facet of Konoha's administration.
While Mirai's own formidable strength played a critical role, the support of the clan leaders had been invaluable. Now, all that remained was to wait for the right moment to utterly discredit Hiruzen. When that time came, Mirai could officially claim the title of Hokage without challenge.
As for Namikaze Minato...
Once Mirai unified the entire shinobi world under one banner, he planned to pass the mantle of Hokage to Minato. That way, he could fulfill the man's long-held dream.
Seated in the Hokage's spacious and comfortable chair, Mirai idly flipped through the stack of documents piled on the desk. Most were mundane reports about the village's daily operations, and he quickly lost interest.
The current Hokage system, in Mirai's opinion, was deeply flawed.
Why should a single person, no matter how capable, be expected to make decisions on everything, from trivial disputes to major policies? Even someone with Naruto Uzumaki's boundless energy had been worn down to exhaustion by the job.
The thought of enduring such a grind made Mirai's head ache.
Once he took over as Hokage, the first order of business would be to establish a team of elite secretaries. They would handle the grunt work, leaving him free to focus on key decisions. Efficiency and elegance—just as it should be.
Just as Mirai was about to leave the office, a personnel scroll from the ANBU division caught his eye.
"Uzuki Yugao…"
The name stirred a memory—a young woman with striking violet hair. Mirai murmured her name under his breath. It had been a while since he last saw her, yet the image of her flustered expression during their last training session remained vivid.
Since he had free time today, why not pay her a visit and offer some swordsmanship guidance?
With a faint smile, Mirai activated his sensory techniques—Kagura's Mind Eye and Byakugan. In seconds, he pinpointed Yugao's location. With a flicker of movement, his figure vanished from the office.
When he reappeared, Mirai stood in the training grounds where Uzuki Yugao was practicing.
"Mirai-senpai?!"
Yugao froze mid-swing, her face a mix of surprise and nervous excitement. But as Mirai's gaze fell on the bone-hilted blade in her hand, realization dawned on her.
"I had some free time," Mirai explained casually, "and it's been a while since our last session. Thought I'd check in and see how your progress is coming along."
A surge of warmth filled Yugao's heart at his words.
She never expected someone like Uchiha Mirai—a towering figure in the shinobi world—to take the time to remember her, let alone seek her out.
And his willingness to personally mentor her could only mean one thing: she had earned his recognition.
A spark of pride lit within her. To be acknowledged by a ninja widely regarded as the strongest in the world… it was an indescribable honor.
Before she could respond, another figure approached—pale-skinned, dark circles under his eyes, and carrying an air of tension.
"You're Uchiha Mirai, aren't you?"
The boy's tone carried a hint of challenge.
"I heard you're planning to teach Yugao swordsmanship. Is that true?"
Mirai ignored the boy's pointed stare and turned to Yugao. "Who is this?"
"Gekko Hayate," Yugao replied quickly. "We've been training partners since childhood. We often practice together."
Mirai's brow furrowed slightly. Thinking back to the original timeline, he recalled their close bond.
"That's unnecessary," he said flatly. "From now on, I'll handle Yugao's training. You don't need to involve yourself anymore."
Hayate clenched his fists, anger flashing across his face. "And what gives you the right to decide that?"
Mirai cast him an indifferent glance, his tone calm but cutting: "Because you're not worthy."
The blunt dismissal was like a slap across Hayate's face. He staggered under the weight of those words, his usual composure crumbling.
"I won't let you insult me like that!" Hayate shouted, unsheathing the katana strapped to his back. A sharp gleam reflected off the blade as he pointed it at Mirai.
"I know you're strong, but when it comes to swordsmanship, I won't lose to you!"
Mirai chuckled softly at the boy's bravado. "Ah, youthful recklessness—so quick to act without thinking."
His expression turned cold, the air around him growing heavy with an oppressive killing intent.
"But if you draw your blade against me, you'd better be prepared to die."
The intensity of Mirai's presence hit Hayate like a wave. His body froze, trembling uncontrollably, sweat pouring down his face. He tried to speak but couldn't force out a single word.
The tension in the training ground was suffocating. Even Yugao paled, unsure of how to defuse the situation.
Mirai extended his hand, and the bone-hilted blade at Yugao's waist flew into his grasp as though it had a will of its own.
The handle was intricately wrapped in silk cord, enhancing its grip and beauty. Clearly, Yugao had taken great care of the weapon.
With a flick of his wrist, Mirai infused the blade with Wind Release chakra, a sharp aura forming around its edge.
"Mirai-senpai, don't!" Yugao cried out.
But Mirai had already swung.
A blade of wind surged forward, slicing cleanly through the ground at Hayate's feet. The shockwave cut through several thick wooden training posts and even shattered a massive boulder at the field's edge.
Hayate stood frozen, the icy sting of wind grazing his skin. Slowly, his eyes followed the destruction left in the attack's wake.
His legs gave out beneath him, and he collapsed, gasping for air.
The realization of how close he had come to death left him paralyzed. If the strike had been even slightly off… he would've been nothing more than a memory.
