Chapter 78: Chapter 78
Arrows rained down like a storm, their sharp tips glinting ominously as they descended upon the trio.
Neji Hyuga reacted instantly, spinning gracefully as he activated his Eight Trigrams Palm Rotation. The powerful chakra shield deflected the incoming arrows, sending them scattering harmlessly to the ground.
Naruto stood firm, his body enveloped in the fiery red chakra of the Nine-Tails. The arrows bounced off his defense with a metallic clang, unable to penetrate.
Tsunade, ever practical, relied on her monstrous strength to smash through the arrows mid-flight. Any damage to the surroundings was immediately repaired with a single touch, her chakra restoring the broken stonework with ease.
When the rain of arrows ceased, the three stood unscathed amidst the debris.
The captain of the Daimyo's escort team smirked. He had anticipated that such an attack wouldn't faze the trio. The arrows were merely a distraction. As soon as the barrage ended, he launched his own assault.
Swish!
His ninja blade moved with lightning speed, nearly invisible even in broad daylight. Neji's Byakugan caught the faintest trace of movement, and yet the blade still grazed his arm. A sharp pain followed as his flesh and clothing were sliced open, and a dark green toxin seeped into the wound.
The venom spread quickly, making Neji's head spin. It felt as though countless tailed beasts were rampaging inside his mind.
The captain of the escort team laughed heartily. "You're poisoned now! There's no escape. Your Byakugan will become the most valuable treasure of the Land of Lightning."
He eyed Neji with a predatory grin, convinced that he had neutralized the strongest member of the trio. In his mind, Neji's white eyes signified noble lineage and unparalleled power, marking him as the leader of the group.
But Neji's expression remained calm, almost mocking. "You want to take my Byakugan?" he said coldly. "Let's see if you're worthy."
With a sudden burst of energy, Neji struck forward. His fist, infused with chakra, collided with the captain's abdomen.
Gentle Fist Technique!
Neji poured all his remaining chakra into the strike, sending it coursing through the captain's body. The devastating energy disrupted the captain's chakra network, creating a violent counterflow that ravaged his internal systems.
"You—" The captain's eyes widened in shock, but he couldn't finish his sentence. His body seized up as his blood surged uncontrollably. Moments later, he collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
The remaining guards froze in terror, their courage shattered. But the Daimyo of the Land of Lightning, undeterred by the sight of his fallen captain, barked his orders.
"Don't retreat! All of you, charge forward! He's poisoned and barely standing. Take him down and bring me his eyes!"
The guards hesitated but ultimately obeyed, driven by fear and greed. Slowly, they advanced on Neji, who was kneeling, his strength visibly waning.
In their arrogance, they ignored Tsunade and Naruto, dismissing them as mere bystanders. The Daimyo, in particular, assumed they were no more than bodyguards or attendants.
"Well, it seems I've been underestimated," Tsunade said with a sigh, cracking her knuckles.
Naruto's eyes narrowed as he observed the Daimyo's greed. "Is the allure of the bloodline limit really worth all this?"
"You don't understand," Tsunade replied, her tone heavy with bitterness. "A ninja with a bloodline limit will always be more powerful than one without it. That truth breeds greed—and disaster."
She refrained from saying the rest: bloodline limits often brought destruction to entire ninja clans. The greed of others had led to countless tragedies in the past.
Tsunade knelt beside Neji, her hands glowing with green chakra as she began to heal him. Her expertise in medical ninjutsu was unparalleled; even the most lethal toxins were no match for her skill. She had survived the poisons of Hanzo the Salamander and the deadly toxins of the Sand Village during the Third Great Ninja War. Compared to those challenges, the poison of the Land of Thunder was almost insulting in its simplicity.
As Neji's breathing steadied and his complexion improved, the Daimyo's confidence wavered. His plan to capture Neji and extract his white eyes was crumbling before his very eyes.
"Kill them all! Don't let him recover!" he shouted, his voice tinged with desperation.
Naruto's gaze darkened as he watched the scene unfold. The Daimyo's unrelenting greed disgusted him. To treat Neji—his comrade and friend—as nothing more than a resource to be exploited was unforgivable.
The red chakra of the Nine-Tails flared around Naruto, and five tails materialized behind him, radiating a terrifying killing intent.
"You dare treat my comrade like livestock?" Naruto growled, his voice low and menacing. "You don't deserve to live."
With blinding speed, Naruto vanished and reappeared among the guards. Each movement was a deadly blur, and with every attack, another life was snuffed out. Whether they were chunin or jonin, it made no difference. Naruto's strikes were merciless and lethal.
He created multiple shadow clones, their numbers overwhelming the guards. Together, they unleashed Rasengans and tore through the opposition with precision and fury. The once-proud defenders of the Daimyo's mansion fell like leaves in a storm, their blood staining the ground.
By the time the carnage ended, only one person remained standing: the Daimyo of the Land of Thunder.
He trembled uncontrollably, his earlier arrogance replaced with sheer terror.
Naruto approached him slowly, a cold smile on his face. "Are you afraid of death now?" he asked softly.
Though his tone was gentle, the words struck the Daimyo like thunder. His knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground, unable to respond.
"I won't kill you," Naruto continued. "Your fate isn't mine to decide." He turned and walked back to Neji's side, leaving the Daimyo to face his fear.
Thanks to Tsunade's healing, Neji had recovered enough to stand. He nodded gratefully to Naruto before stepping toward the Daimyo.
"You wanted my Byakugan," Neji said calmly, his voice devoid of emotion. "The last Daimyo of the Land of Lightning wanted them too. Now I'm here. Take them—if you can."
The Daimyo recoiled, his body shaking uncontrollably under Neji's gaze. The weight of Neji's presence was too much to bear. Overwhelmed, the Daimyo collapsed fully, his heart giving out under the immense pressure.
