Chapter 289- Back In The Tower (Part 13)
Like a flash of lightning, Arthur cut through the snow path, forming the ice wall piece by piece. In a few seconds, he created several dozen meters of ice across the entire path. He didn't stop to really look if his wall was as sturdy as possible or not as he had no time. Enjoy exclusive content from My Virtual Library Empire
Even as he was moving, the floods were approaching at a horrifying speed. The large waves started looming over the group, threatening to swallow them at any given second. However, Arthur didn't stop.
'If I can somehow make the water diverge its path a little to the side! I can definitely save us some time! Please don't break immediately!'
Arthur knew that he was asking for too much. As strong as the ice his sword creates is, it was far from strong enough to hold back a flood of that size. It was like trying to stop a rushing train with a piece of paper.
But, enough pieces of paper can perhaps buy a precious second for the group.
"Move, move!!" Meanwhile, Deka kept pushing her group to move as fast as they could. She didn't care if they were exhausted or injured, they had to run as fast as they could. At least if they can make it out of this disaster, they will have time to recover.
In a matter of seconds, the floods became the only thing they could see as it finally reached them. The sound alone was enough to deafen the ears and shake the earth beneath their feet. Nobody could comprehend the scale of this flood and they frankly didn't even want to know. The fear of it was enough of an indication for them.
At that moment, Arthur formed the last line of defense before he turned around and dashed toward the group. The ground kept rumbling beneath his feet and the water spread everywhere, covering the entire area in a matter of seconds as it reached Arthur's ice wall.
*BOOOOOOOM*
The clash made a loud explosion that made Arthur squint. Looking over his shoulders, Arthur saw the ice wall stop the first layer of water. But, at the same time, the hit had made it crack visibly.
'Already?! Dammit!' He cursed. Reaching the group, he ran with them. At the same time, the water kept clashing with the ice wall, breaking it piece by piece.
"How long do we have, Arthur?!" Deka asked in a hurry.
"A few seconds at most! That wall won't hold on for long!"
"That's good enough! I still have something I can do!" Deka replied.
"What?"
*BANG*
At that moment, Arthur's attention was caught by the sudden burst. Looking to the side again, he realized that one of the walls had already burst and the water basically exploded through it endlessly. The high pressure of the water made it launch far into the air, falling on their heads in the form of rain.
"Ugh! I can't see! The water is freezing cold!"
Each drop of water was quickly cooling down to terrifying degrees, almost freezing mid-air. It felt as if cold needles were poking at their bodies with each passing second.
But, the worst didn't even come yet. A second later, the second wall burst and even more water flooded the area. Then, the third, fourth, and fifth burst simultaneously. The ice was quickly getting destroyed as if it was relentlessly being attacked with each passing second.
Before anyone could even react, large waves found their path toward the group. Staring up, all they could see were large walls of water descending upon them. What made it even worse was that there was no sign of them finding a way out of the flood.
"Get closer to me!!" At that moment, Deka yelled to her group. Then, she lifted her hand in the air, revealing a large red crystal shining ominously with a dark hue.
'Huh?' Arthur frowned. He noticed how the group immediately got closer to one another almost becoming one lump so he did the same without asking.
"Hold on!!" Saying that, Deka clenched her hand around the crystal, making it burst. Then, her expression changed immediately as if she was in great pain.
The shards of the crystal were immediately absorbed by her hand, making her veins turn a weird red color.
"AGH!!!" She groaned loudly as she kept her hand clenched. At the same time, out of nowhere, a large, transparent red barrier formed all around the group. The barrier was completely see through so everyone could see what was happening outside.
A split second later, the large waves finally reached them, slamming into the barrier with immense weight. The group almost fell to the ground from the sheer power of the hit. However, surprisingly, the barrier held on, taking the relentless power of nature head-on.
"Go! Go! We can't stop now! This barrier won't hold on for long!!" Against all the pain, Deka forced those words out of her mouth. Her hand seemed to pulsate with burning pain from the red crystal. 'This hurts!'
She felt as if someone was peeling her skin inch by inch with each passing second and when the water hit the barrier, the pain got ten times worse. But, she didn't let it take over her mind and focused on running as fast as she can.
'This is crazy.' Arthur blinked. 'Didn't know these types of crystals existed… Useful.' He mused.
With that, the group navigated their path through the blinding flood. Their vision was completely nullified due to the huge amount of water flooding the slope. All they can do is run ahead and wish they don't end up falling down to their death.
However, that fear, as simple as it was, proved to be very justified. What the group didn't know or perhaps tried to ignore was that the floods of water was pushing them slowly closer and closer to the edge.
Even with the barrier protecting them, the sheer pressure of the water kept pushing them to the side, and with their lack of vision, nobody even realized what was happening.
"How much time do you have left in it, Deka?" Arthur asked.
"... 20… No… 30… Seconds…" She replied through her gritted teeth.
'Only 30 seconds? This is really bad… Are we even close to getting out?' Arthur asked himself.
The group was running quickly and they were cutting considerably large distances. Still, this flood was unimaginably massive on a different scale. They could as well be still in the heart of it, and the moment that barrier bursts…
Arthur immediately shook his head and focused on running. Time ticked down very slowly, almost killing the group with relentless tension.
"Are we close yet?!"
"Just keep on running goddammit!"
At that very moment, Deka suddenly stumbled over her steps, almost falling to the ground.
"Are you ok, Deka?" Sergi approached his friend and grabbed her shoulder. The woman slowly lifted her head and looked at him. However, when she did, the man's eyes widened.
"Deka… You…"
Blood was leaking out of her eyes.
