Chapter 288- Back In The Tower (Part 12)
The woman stopped and looked up, her eyes were wide in shock and her face was even more pale than ever before.
"No, no, no… Not now… Why is it happening now?" She muttered to herself as she clenched her fists.
"What is happening, Deka?" Arthur asked calmly. He didn't understand what was happening but it was clearly something really bad. They were already in a horrible position and whatever was happening now might make it ten times worse for them.
"I can't explain now. We need to leave this cave now!" Deka said, then hurried back inside the cave.
"..." Arthur blinked in confusion before he looked up again. The rumbling was only getting stronger and stronger by the second but it was still considerably far away. So, with that in mind, Arthur could only go back inside the cave.
There, he found all the mercenaries in complete panic. The entire group was quickly picking up their things as they fumbled on their steps.
"Why is it happening now?!"
"Wasn't it next week?!"
"Damn it! We're screwed!!!"
"Hurry!"
The way they were behaving was the least concerning part as even then, they were able to quickly pick up the stuff. However, what concerned Arthur was the fact he didn't even know what they were afraid of.
"Arthur, can you please help me carry him?" Deka asked, catching the boy's attention.
'Tsk, questions later, let's get out of here first.' He shook his head and quickly went to work. Helping Deka, he carried the injured mercenaries.
"We will head down to the slope and then move near the edge east!" Deka ordered. "Don't fall back and don't stop! We don't have time at all!!"
No mercenary dared to complain or ask as they put on their bags and started walking out of the cave in order.
"AGH! Cold!!"
"The storm is getting stronger!"
Their tattered bodies were immediately hit with the immensely cold weather, almost freezing them to death. But, they clenched their teeth through it and walked outside. Behind them, Deka and Arthur carried the two dangerously injured mercenaries.
Slowly, the group vanished into the white world as the rumbling grew louder and louder behind them, driving them to move even faster. They didn't even dare to look back as they feared the sight would be the last thing they saw before they died.
"Keep moving! We have to make it there quickly before it arrives!!" Deka pushed them to move even faster as she covered her face from the strong wind that was threatening to throw her off.
"Can you tell me what the hell is going on, Deka?! Is there an avalanche or something?!" Arthur asked with a loud voice to break through the whistling wind. At this point, Arthur was starting to shape an idea of what could be approaching them and the best conclusion he could come up with is an avalanche as they were near a snowy mountain so it's natural to expect avalanches to happen on the regular.
"No! it's a water flood! The sound you're hearing is water descending from the peak!" Deka replied.
"Water flood?" Arthur frowned, immediately taken aback by the response. "Why is there water at the peak?"
'The weather is freezing cold… How is there water up there? This makes no sense.' He mused.
"That water isn't actually from this floor… It's a water that descends from the second floor once every month. Normally that should've been happening next week! I don't know why it's now!" Deka replied.
"..." Arthur blinked before his eyes shifted back to the source of the rumbling. "Great… We're about to be fucking drowned to death…"
The boy didn't even know whether to laugh or cry at this realization. Every time, the game would slap him with something new and he couldn't even do anything about it. Water flooding down from the mountain would certainly be disastrous if it reaches them before they escape.
"Well, we gotta hurry then!" Arthur hurried his steps as he lifted the man above his shoulder. Since his body was really strong, he didn't struggle to carry the man as he ran.
The group moved toward the slope as quickly as possible. The wind seemed to get even stronger for some reason and the mercenaries were starting to feel the cold weather slowing them down. Their limbs were freezing quickly and their injured bodies were losing heat very rapidly.
However, they didn't dare to stop for even a second. Some stumbled, and some fell, but they still stood up and continued moving.
"If we can move far enough east, we can make it!!" Deka yelled, trying to make the mercenaries move even faster. 'At this rate, we won't make it in time! Dammit!!' She cursed inwardly, trying to hide her fear as much as possible.
The sound of the rumbling had reached a level where it was hard to hear other things now. They knew that it was a matter of minutes at most before the water flooded the entire slope and descended to the forest.
"AGH!"
"Don't fall behind! Move!"
"I can see it! The edge!" One mercenary yelled as he pointed ahead. There, through the thick shroud, the group finally took a glimpse at the slope's edge.
"Turn east! We have to make it around the other side and then descend!" Deka yelled.
Taking a sharp turn, the group started trailing the edge, moving slowly across the path. Their hearts raced as they hoped they could reach the destination in time.
However, the rumbling only became louder, to the point where their ears were ringing loudly. The sound of waves of water clashing against one another.
"Deka… We are really not making any progress." Arthur said as he looked in the direction of the flood. His eyes pierced through the storm, finally seeing a glimpse of the catastrophe approaching them at a rapid pace.
Just that small look sent a chill down Arthur's spine. The flood was immensely huge, to the point where he couldn't even see the peak of the waves.
'That's not even flood… That's an entire ocean descending upon our heads!' Arthur clenched his teeth.
Deka didn't respond to him as she rummaged through her bag, seemingly searching for something. Eventually, the floods finally became visible to the rest of the group and their hearts sunk in.
"We're ruined…"
"Why is it so big…"
"Fuck! FUCK!!!!"
"Don't panic and continue moving!" Deka yelled as she pulled her arms together, clasping something between her fists. Explore stories at My Virtual Library Empire
'I guess I should do something about this.' Arthur clenched his teeth as he looked at Deka. "Hey, can you hold this man? I have an idea!"
"What?"
"Just hold him for a second! I will be back!" He yelled before he threw the man to Deka.
Then, Arthur dashed forward, getting closer and closer to the flooding water. He didn't feel any fear at all as he stared directly at the colossal waves rushing toward him like raging beasts.
"Dying from drowning wasn't on my bucket list for today… Oh well…" He muttered to himself.
Then, when Arthur reached a certain distance, he stopped and pulled his sword out. "I need to hurry."
In his head, Arthur had some sort of idea but he wasn't certain it would work. In fact, he was certain it was only going to buy them a few seconds at most if it worked. Still, every second counted and each moment increased their survival rate.
"Time to work, Oblivion." He muttered to his sword as he channeled all the mana in his body into the sword. The weapon immediately activated, shining brightly like a star in the darkness. The cold aura of the sword dominated the area, shrouding even the strong storm raging around them.
Then, Arthur stabbed the sword into the ground as he exhaled a long breath. "Let's see how much I can do with this mode… Freeze."
The moment he said that word, the entire around him was shrouded in ice. The hard ground beneath his feet was covered with a thick layer of it. A few seconds passed before a large area around him was turned into glistening ice.
That was when Arthur pulled the sword out. Then…
*Swish*
With a swift move, he created a large arc of ice around him. The ice arc was embedded into the ice, fusing with it in an instant.
"Good!" Arthur stared at his creation for a moment before he turned to the side and then dashed forward. As he ran, he swung his sword quickly and precisely, creating large arcs, sticking to one another.
The arcs were large, towering over Arthur and slowly forming a large wall, sticking into the ice itself.
"What the hell…"
"What is he doing?"
Meanwhile, the group noticed the large ice wall forming at a rapid pace in parallel with them.
"Arthur…" Deka blinked in shock. "He's creating an ice wall to deflect the waves as much as possible!"
