Chapter 1236: First Dawn
None of us spent any time at all sleeping that night, instead focusing on just what we were able to ask the Demoness before she decided that we had been given too much of a leash to run amok freely with, like Anput's much needed question about the correlation between her partner's sexual prowess and the children she sired from said partners...
It was certainly... a question of all time, and while it initially drew a chuckle out of the older Demoness she eventually stared at the Jackalkin quietly as she almost dared her to repeat the question in hopes of receiving an answer.
Lady Fenyras did push the question a little by asking if there was any correlation at all between someone's genetics and how well they performed in bed with an absolute specimen of genetics, which earned her a quick blast of harmless flame to the head for being so crude to a proper Lady.
There were a few other fun questions asked that all managed to get some sort of intriguing reply, like Leone's desire to learn more about the Labyrinthian and the resources we might find within, or her question about the difference between the Fiends of now - as told via our experiences - and the Fiends of her time.
Mom could give us a bit of a look into how different they were over the last few centuries, but Lilith gave us a glimpse into the powers that were as she just pointed at Cali and said "Think about her, but worse."
My pink skinned partner just appeared and shrugged at that, though upon her appearance Lilith also added that she knew who Cali was, and that got the usually peppy Sla Arch Fiend to simmer down even before she could begin being her usual self, which we had only seen back when the Empress and some of her wives had spoken to her.
By the time the sun's rays were beginning to grace the unique landscape that surrounded us, the black skinned Demoness rose to her feet, picked up her gigantic stone weapon, and beckoned for us to gather our things as she pushed all of Anput's walls down with her own magic.
And it wasn't just raw mana, but instead Earth Mana, which at first was acceptable to me since Earth and Fire Mana together formed Metal Mana, something we were all familiar with, but then she doused the campfire with Water Mana...
Before she proceeded to blow the last of the herb's putrid, yet helpful smoke out into the forest with Wind Mana as well, showing off all four of the basic Elemental Magics that we had been taught as being impossible to find all within one person.
After all, your Core could only contain two of the four Elements at once if you were lucky, or it could contain mana of another type of magic, like Light or Dark, but having all four of the basic Elements?!
That should be impossible!
Lilith preemptively glanced over her shoulder and gave us yet another smile, the Demoness' jolly nature confusing me this time around and further shrouding her in an unknowable mist that made it impossible to get a read on her.
"There are always exceptions to the rules~! Just ask the Empress the next time you see her about all the rules she actively breaks simply by being alive..."
Her reveal of being able to utilize all of the Elements even stunned Cali - who had forfeited the idea of drifting around unseen and instead hovered just over my shoulder - the Arch Fiend leaning down to whisper "Uh... Katty Kat, that shouldn't be possible unless you have two Cores, which... is also something that is borderline impossible, so... yeah."
That was something that I could come to a conclusion to on my own, but still, having it spoken by someone who was certainly more versed in what can and can't happen in this world was certainly something that I gave importance to, and hearing that made me look at this mysterious, beautiful and ancient Demoness in yet another new light.
"I gathered as much..."
"Come along now~! We have places to be! And if you have more of those herbs it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep some burning, but be careful; the liquid inside of those leaves is what emits the monster repellant, not the leaf itself.
Now, the monsters are quite the interesting bundles of joy in the Labyrinthian. Stronger, faster, smarter and more resilient than the monsters you are accustomed to, but still, they are monsters, so if you threaten them and they see no benefit to be gained they will run away. But hey! You all need practice anyways, so maybe that's a good thing!"
Now we had even more questions than we had had last night, but there was no time to ask them as she began to walk away, leaving Anput and Jahi to scramble to start pulling the carriage with all of our supplies while the rest of us took up guard around them, protecting them as we followed behind the Demoness. She looked like she was about to take a stroll through a peaceful forest instead of leading us towards the 'center' of the Labyrinthian, into the spattering of dozens of diverse mountains that were probably laden with riches and dangers in extreme abundance, of all kinds.
"If you want, take a few looks back at the entrance and wave it goodbye~! After we lose sight of it, it will no longer be right behind us... oh, but don't worry! While you can't technically map out the Labyrinthian, there are certain... tricks to navigating it. I can get us out, but it might take a little bit depending on the luck the heavens decide to bestow upon us."
With that cheery bit of information thrown back at us rather casually, Lilith resumed her stroll through the most dangerous place this continent had to offer, guiding us into the belly of the beast with even more questions that she had no intention of answering... at least not now.
