Chapter 1235: Midnight Fun
"Anyone else have any sort of guesses on coloration and its importance? Or shall we move on and leave that to be a mystery~?"
The black skinned Demoness seemed to be enjoying this quite a lot as she basked in the warmth of the campfire, relishing the conversations like she hadn't had any contact with mortals in forever; she seemed to crave speech between us to satisfy the itch in her brain that required socialization.
So I decided to just take a crack at it for her sake and to try and quench my own curiosity a little as I asked "Does it have any actual importance at all or is it simply a byproduct of you and whomever you... 'bred' with mixing your skin tone to create a new line of Demons?"
That drew a chuckle from her as she raised a brow, those rubies sparkling with amusement and conveying her enjoyment even more as she asked me a question back, leaving this as 'unanswered' as she could so that we would have to work towards the real answer if we truly desired it.
"That entirely depends on what your definition of importance is, dear. How important is the fur to those Wolfkin at the end of the day? You can argue that it is extremely important or that it is barely noticeable at all...
Heading back to the root of what you want to know and questioning its importance~? Few people do that, and it's not a terrible idea, dear, not at all. To that I can only say that yes, my selective breeding resulted in mixed colorations, but those colorations mattered. They have some sort of actual benefit that is slowly being lost due to the blood dilution over time."
She looked around again and waited for another guess on this topic or another question of any kind at all, with us doing the same as we gauged everyone else before leaving the campsite quiet as we waited for someone to speak up.

"Alright, I'll ask something else this time; the color doesn't really bother me because clearly it has no impact on me in the here and now. And it is certainly not like I am going to try and 'strengthen' the bloodline again with a new batch of children..."
Mom shook her head at that, only to pause and raise a brow as Lilith gave her a sweet smile before saying "Well, we certainly could try if you wanted~! Like I said before, the amount of people connecting you and I is far too numerous to actually matter, so if you wanted... I wouldn't be opposed to reintroducing my blood to the Clans~!"
Even in her amused and relaxed state I could tell that she was serious about that, the glint in her eyes as she just stared at Mom making it as clear as crystal that she meant what she said, and after a few seconds of just staring at her we all turned and glared at the older blue skinned Demoness as she seemingly contemplated it.
"Ahem... no thank you, I am happily married and devoted to my two wives..."
Lilith chuckled quiet as she raised her hands and gave Mom a sly smile, though when she noticed the Demoness was refusing to look her way she just clasped her hands together once more and remained quiet, letting that moment pass by.
"As I was saying, I'll ask something else. I've always been curious and could never get it out of anyone who might know, but... what race is our glorious Empress even from? She's not from any race that I've ever had the luck of encountering, that's for damn sure..."
Another chuckle was followed by another stretch of silence as the older Demoness turned to look at the flames, admiring their beauty from up close before eventually sighing as she said "It technically isn't hidden since there are no records of it and we haven't been told not to say, but it is something for her to say..."
Drumming her fingers on her knee, Lilith continued to stare into the flames as she contemplated what she was going to say before looking up and giving us a wry smile and adding "And I wouldn't want to ruin that surprise either, since I have a feeling she'll remind the world yet again about what she is.
Just know that there truly aren't any others like her alive anymore, partially due to nature itself making it almost impossible for more of her to appear as well as the rest of her race being killed off due to the fear of what they were capable of. She is the last one, and will likely never sire another of her kind, for better or for worse."
"She hasn't even told me what exactly she is, if that helps. I think only the Dragons, you, and her know what she is and what she is truly capable of. Theresa too, of course."
"Of course. Theresa... is she still... rooted?"
The jovial light faded from Lilith as she asked that, and when both Lady Fenyras and Leone nodded she sighed again, but this time it was downtrodden as she slumped slightly, only to perk back up when she asked "Ah, what about all the other Demons? Since we're speaking about being rooted, I imagine they're still adamantly stuck in their ways and in that one spot?"
"Sadly."
"Oho~? Let me guess~! That tone of voice means you went and met your cousins, and if they remained as stuck in their ways as always then the Beliali's tried to manipulate you into accepting a marriage proposal of some kind only to instantly get angry and start sulking after being declined while the Cimeriesa sort of kind of acknowledged your existence while focusing instead on any and all magical things relating to each of you with an uncanny precision?"
She was back to being giddy again, and as we were reminded of our time spent with the other two Demon Clans we resumed passing the time in a warm comfort, waiting for the sun to rise so that we could start whatever it was that Lilith had called us here for.
