Chapter 69: Plague King 2

The zombie staggered, its movements slowing as its corrupted life force began to fade. It tried to swing its axe one last time, but Leon intercepted it with another spell—Force Barrier. The shimmering shield of energy halted the axe mid-swing, giving Roselia the opening she needed to finish it off.

With a swift, powerful strike, she severed the creature's head. The massive zombie collapsed to the ground with a resounding crash, its dark energy dispersing into the air like smoke.

Leon let out a breath of relief, lowering his staff. "That was tougher than expected. Guess we really are getting closer to the Plague King."

Roselia wiped her blades clean and nodded. "If his guard was this strong, the Plague King himself will be on another level. We'll need to be at our best."

Leon nodded, as he said " It will be okay as long as we do it with perfect strategy."

Roselia nodded hearing him.

They stood over the defeated armored zombie, the flickering torchlight casting long shadows on the stone walls. After a brief moment to catch their breath, they continued deeper into the castle.

The corridors grew darker, the oppressive atmosphere thickening with every step. Strange whispers echoed around them, the faint sound of chains rattling in the distance.

Finally, they reached a massive set of double doors adorned with grotesque carvings of undead creatures. A sickly green light seeped through the cracks, and an aura of malevolence radiated from beyond.

"This is it," Roselia said, her voice steady.

Leon stepped forward, his staff glowing faintly as he prepared himself. "The Plague King is waiting for us. Let's make this quick and clean."

With a nod, Roselia pushed open the doors, and the two stepped into the throne room of the Plague King.

The sight before them was grotesque—a massive, decaying figure sat on a throne of bones, surrounded by writhing undead creatures. The Plague King's glowing green eyes locked onto them, and a sinister grin spread across his rotting face.

"Intruders," the Plague King rasped, his voice echoing with dark power. "You dare enter my domain? You will join my legion of the dead."

Leon and Roselia exchanged glances before Roselia rolled her eyes and muttered, "How is it that they all have the same overused dialogue?"

Leon chuckled. "Beats me," he said with a shrug. Then, with a mischievous grin, he flicked her forehead lightly. "Let's focus on the battle."

Roselia glared at him, rubbing her forehead. "You're lucky I'm not aiming my blades at you," she muttered, nodding reluctantly.

The Plague King, clearly unimpressed with their banter, raised his decaying foot and stomped it against the ground. The floor shook as a thick, greenish-black gas began to seep into the room, spreading rapidly.

Leon narrowed his eyes, already recognizing the tactic. "Plague Domain," he muttered. "Figures."

He had studied the Plague King's patterns before. The fight always started with the summoning of this domain, designed to weaken enemies by poisoning the air and limiting visibility. After that, the Plague King would unleash hordes of undead minions to wear his opponents down. Only when his enemies showed signs of exhaustion would the Plague King join the fray, delivering devastating blows with his enhanced necromantic powers.

"Smart for a monster," Leon admitted. "But predictable."

Roselia drew her blades, their edges gleaming faintly in the sickly green light. "Then let's disrupt his little routine, shall we?"

Leon grinned. "Let's."

With that, the battle began.

The air grew heavier, the toxic fog biting at their lungs and sapping their strength. However, Leon countered immediately by casting Purification Aura, a holy spell designed to neutralize harmful effects. A shimmering golden light spread out from him, pushing back the fog slightly and creating a small safe zone around them.

"Stay close to me," he said, his voice steady.

Roselia nodded, her movements fluid as she positioned herself at Leon's side.

As he casted the spells so did Plague King sending hordes of Zombies and their variants.

The ground trembled, and the sound of shuffling feet filled the chamber. The Plague King raised his bony hand, and dozens of undead creatures emerged from the shadows. Their hollow eyes glowed with an eerie green light, and their decayed bodies moved with unnatural speed.

Roselia smirked. "Finally, some action."

She leapt into the fray, her blades a blur as she sliced through the approaching horde. Each strike was precise, her agility allowing her to weave between attacks with ease. Meanwhile, Leon remained in the center, channeling spells.

"Burn them down—Flame Tempest!" Leon chanted, summoning a whirlwind of fire that engulfed several undead at once. The creatures screeched as they were reduced to ash.

Despite their efforts, more undead kept coming, summoned endlessly by the Plague King.

"This isn't going to stop," Roselia said, landing beside Leon after cutting down another wave.

"I know," Leon replied. "We need to disrupt his summoning."

The Plague King, now fully enveloped in his toxic aura, laughed darkly. "You think you can stop me? Foolish mortals!"

Leon ignored the taunt, focusing instead on a new spell. He raised his staff, its tip glowing with intense light. "Let's see how you like this—Lightburst Barrage!"

Bolts of radiant energy shot from the staff, targeting the Plague King directly. The undead minions in the path of the attack were vaporized instantly. The Plague King raised his skeletal hands, forming a barrier of dark energy to deflect the incoming assault.

"Keep him busy!" Leon called to Roselia.

"On it!" she shouted, dashing toward the Plague King.

While Roselia engaged the Plague King in close combat, dodging his strikes and retaliating with her own, Leon began preparing a high-tier spell, two at a time, knowing one wouln't be enough to pierce the defense of the Plague King, combining their powers into a single, devastating attack.

"By raging fire and light fury, let all be undone—Heaven's Inferno!" Leon roared, slamming his staff into the ground.

A massive column of fire and light erupted in the center of the chamber, engulfing the Plague King. The force of the spell shook the ground, cracks forming in the stone walls as the ground quaked violently.

When the light faded, the Plague King remained standing, but the damage was evident on its decayed form. Pieces of its flesh were missing, exposing bones and torn sinews.

"Hmm, 20%," Leon muttered as he glanced at the glowing health bar hovering over the Plague King.

"Good enough," he said to himself, but his satisfaction quickly turned into a frown when he saw the Plague King absorbing the corpses of nearby zombies, his health bar climbing back up.

"Undead really are a pain to deal with," Leon murmured. His mind briefly wandered to his unused Origin Conjure ability. This unique skill allowed him to summon three entities of his current rank, two of a rank above, and one two ranks higher. It also had the powerful feature of binding one chosen entity, enabling him to summon it at will permanently.

However, Leon had refrained from using it. Unlike the Trial World, where everything reset upon returning, this was the real world. Every decision he made here had long-term consequences. He wasn't going to waste such a rare ability on a random bind—he wanted the best option possible.

"You know," he mumbled as he conjured a Force Barrier to block the incoming Plague Arrow, a spell the Plague King had aimed at him with surprising accuracy. "Seeing this fight almost makes me want an undead ally. They're durable, persistent, and damn annoying."

The Plague Arrow exploded against the barrier with a sickly green glow, sending ripples of energy outward.

"BASTARD!" Roselia's furious voice echoed across the hall. "You dare to ignore me?!"

Her twin blades began to glow with a purple-black aura, the power of her Battle Magic: Dual Aura Slicer radiating off of her. With a fierce cry, she dashed toward the Plague King, unleashing a flurry of attacks. Her glowing blades arced through the air, sending energy slashes directly at the undead monstrosity.

The Plague King let out a guttural snarl, summoning another wave of poisonous fog to shield himself. Roselia's attacks cut through the fog, forcing the Plague King to retreat as her relentless assault began chipping away at his defenses.

Leon watched her, a knowing smirk on his face. "She's definitely more aggressive when ignored," he muttered.

As Roselia pressed the attack, Leon began to channel another spell, his staff glowing faintly with golden light. "Let's see how you like this one," he said, ready to unleash his next move while the Plague King was distracted.

Leon began his chant, combining two potent holy spells into a devastating fusion. The first, Holy Heal, typically cured allies of negative states and restored vitality, but for the undead, it acted as a deadly poison. The second, Holy Spear, was a piercing attack imbued with divine energy, ideal for combating evil entities.

His staff glowed brighter with golden and white energy as the two spells fused into one. The resulting power coalesced into a radiant spear, its surface adorned with intricate golden patterns that seemed to pulsate with divine wrath.
