Chapter 65: First Quest III

With the Eye of Sage, Leon's vision sharpened, revealing the hidden flows of worldly energy. As he studied the Red Skeleton King, he noticed something peculiar—a thin red line connecting the king to an ornate painting hanging behind the throne.

He is currently suing the passive of Eye of Sage not the Active skill allowing him to see this hidden detail.

"Is this... a necromancy tether?" Leon thought, his eyes narrowing. The line pulsed faintly, hinting that the Skeleton King's power and life force were being sustained by something—or someone—else beyond the painting.

"Roselia, finish him quickly!" Leon commanded, his tone urgent.

Roselia didn't hesitate. She jumped back gracefully, raising her palms as a dense, dark aura began to swirl around her. Concentrating, she molded the void flames into a miniature violet sun that pulsated ominously in her hands. The room grew darker as the intense energy threatened to consume everything nearby.

"Void Ray!" she declared, her voice firm as she unleashed the condensed void energy. A powerful beam shot forward, striking the Red Skeleton King directly in the chest, where its life gem was embedded.

The impact was cataclysmic. The gem shattered instantly, obliterated in a single blow, as the Skeleton King roared in defiance. The flames consumed its form, reducing it to nothing but ashes within moments.

Leon, however, kept his gaze locked on the painting. The red line snapped, and the glow behind the artwork flickered violently.

"Something's not right," Leon muttered, taking a cautious step closer to the ornate painting.

While Roselia picked up the Red Crown from the remains of the Skeleton King, she tucked it into her Spatial Ring before turning to follow Leon. She noticed his intense focus on the painting.

"Do you like paintings?" she asked tilting her head, seeing how deeply he was staring at it.

Leon didn't respond immediately. Instead, his gaze remained sharp, analyzing every detail of the frame and the strange energy radiating from it. Without a word, he brought his hand up, channeling Aether Magic. Concentrating the energy into a sharp blade of light, he slashed cleanly across the painting.

The canvas tore, revealing a hidden doorway behind it. A faint hum emanated from the uncovered entrance as ancient runes flickered to life.

Roselia's eyes lit up with excitement. "This is a hidden room! If no one else knows about it, we might find something really valuable inside," she said, her voice brimming with anticipation.

Leon nodded, his expression serious. "Back with the Red Skeleton King, if the boss was left undefeated for more than a month, rewards would regenerate for the next challengers. In this case, though, it's a 'Daily' quest. The Skeleton King's death would've led to nothing but destruction of the area, with no treasures left behind."

"But now that we've found this hidden place…" Roselia continued his thought, "it means this wasn't just an A-Rank quest. There might be something rare—a weapon, skill tomes, or unique artifacts—waiting for us inside."

Leon stepped forward cautiously, his Eye of Sage scanning for any signs of traps or hidden mechanisms. "Let's tread carefully," he warned, glancing at Roselia. "This could be the real treasure the quest was hiding."

Roselia nodded in agreement, her hand resting lightly on the hilt of her weapon. As they crossed the threshold, Leon suddenly felt a shift in the atmosphere. The air thickened, and an invisible energy pulsed around them. Roselia stopped, her eyes narrowing as she took in the surroundings.

"A secret realm," she said, her voice steady but alert. Leon nodded, confirming her observation.

"Let's hope it's not a powerful one," he muttered, scanning the strange new environment for clues.

Roselia shrugged nonchalantly. "The first floor's limit is supposed to be Level 80," she replied, her tone calm but laced with caution.

Leon shook his head, a faint frown appearing on his face. "That may be true, but there could be Legendary monsters here. Even on the first floor, they can possess strength equivalent to Level 180 common monsters," he said, his voice firm, reminding her of the potential danger.

Roselia gave a slight nod, understanding the gravity of his words. They were now in uncharted territory, where the rewards could be immense, but the risks even greater.

The narrow hallway stretched ahead, its dark cobblestones slick with an unsettling dampness. Leon squinted as his Eye of Sage scanned the corridor. "No traps?" he muttered, confusion evident in his tone. Normally, a long, foreboding corridor like this would be rife with danger, yet there was nothing.

"Let's move," he said, glancing at Roselia, who nodded. They proceeded cautiously. After five minutes of walking in eerie silence, they emerged into a vast, well-lit chamber.

The room looked ancient yet functional, with walls lined by dusty bookshelves and tools arranged meticulously. In the center stood a massive forging table, flanked by an alchemy bench, its design more advanced than anything Leon had seen before.

"This alchemy bench..." Roselia murmured, inspecting it closely. "It's incredibly sophisticated. Whoever set this place up must've been a genius." Stay updated with My Virtual Library Empire

Suddenly, a creaky voice broke the silence.

"Well now, I didn't expect visitors."

They turned sharply to see an old man stepping out from the shadows. He was garbed in a stately, though slightly tattered, robe, holding a black tome in his hands. His eyes were sharp, betraying a keen intellect.

"Welcome to my humble abode," the man said with a faint smile.

Leon kept his hand on his weapon. "Who are you?" he asked bluntly.

"My name is Theodore William Stefan," the man replied. "Perhaps you've heard of me."

Leon's eyes widened slightly. "The Alchemist King?"

Theodore nodded. "Indeed. This is one of my secret laboratories, scattered across the floors of this realm."

Leon narrowed his eyes. "Aren't you supposed to be dead? The Alchemist King of the human race was declared dead centuries ago."

The old man chuckled. "That's correct. This body isn't alive. It's an Alchemy Construct, what you might call an android or homunculus. I designed it to hold my memories up until the 100th floor."

Roselia tilted her head. "Why would you create such a thing?"

Theodore's expression grew somber. "To aid me in alchemical research... and to seek a way to revive my original body. You see, my main body perished 117 years ago, leaving these constructs behind to carry on my work."

"Revive yourself?" Leon asked, suspicion flickering in his gaze.

"Yes." Theodore gestured at them with an amused smirk. "I sense no malice from you, so I'll share some of my secrets. "

"Also don't think of me as an pushover, if you guys had even a bit , tiny little bit of malice, you guys won't had made it alive here" he added.

Leon frowned. "What are you implying?"

Theodore chuckled again. "The corridor you walked through wasn't unguarded. It contained 999 traps."

Leon stiffened. "What? My Eye of Sage detected nothing."

"Ah, the first trap," Theodore said, stroking his beard. "It's a mana-sealing ward. The moment you entered this secret realm, all external skills and mana detection were rendered useless. Without realizing it, you were stripped of your tools."

"Also the second trap, it make people think they are still using their skills and abilities, which in fact is sealed" Old Man said scaring the hell out of them.

Both Leon and Roselia instinctively checked their mana reserves, only to realize they couldn't access them.

Theodore continued, "Had you been malicious, you would've triggered the traps immediately. But as you are not, I allowed you to reach me."

Leon gritted his teeth but nodded slowly. "Alright. What do you want from us?"

The old alchemist's eyes gleamed. "Knowledge. I need aid in my research to unlock the secrets of true revival. Help me, and you may gain alchemical secrets beyond your imagination. Refuse, and... well, let's just say the way out will be far more perilous than the way in."

Roselia glanced at Leon, her expression unreadable. "What's your call?"

Leon sighed, his mind racing. Despite his skepticism, he knew an opportunity like this could not be ignored. "Alright, old man. You've got our attention. Let's hear what you need."

Theodore's smile widened, and for a moment, the room seemed to hum with latent energy.

Theodore's calm expression didn't waver as he explained, "This body of mine is researching the secrets of the undead. To further my studies, I require the bones of all the Skeleton Kings present on this floor."

"What?" Leon blinked, his voice rising in disbelief. "Are you crazy?"

"Do you hear yourself?" Roselia added, crossing her arms. "That's a ridiculous task!"

Their reaction was justified. Each floor of this dungeon was an enormous, sprawling space—over 10,000 kilometers in size. The sheer scale was mind-boggling, and there was no telling how many undead creatures—or Skeleton Kings—inhabited it. Undertaking this quest would mean spending centuries scouring the floor.

Theodore chuckled at their protests. "Ah, you misunderstand. I'm not asking you to gather them all in one go. That would indeed be madness. I merely need the bones of the True Skeleton King, the strongest on this floor. He holds the essence of all other Skeleton Kings. His defeat will yield the unique core I require."

Leon's frown deepened. "The True Skeleton King? And where exactly do we find this so-called ultimate undead?"

Theodore's smile turned mysterious. "Ah, he is hidden within another secret realm—one that only those with sufficient strength and wit can uncover. However, be warned: he is of Legendary Grade, far above the ordinary foes you've faced thus far."
