Chapter 41: My Hero
Having successfully formed 'The Clones' and netted a 'big fish' like Midnight, Clone Himaru basked in the euphoria of a true Fishing King's victory. However, the ocean of his ambition was still vast and deep, and his 'fishing' instincts continued to surge, never feeling satisfied. Now, his gaze turned to two 'special fish' who were very popular among fans: Uraraka Ochako and Toga Himiko.
"Uraraka Ochako and Toga Himiko, huh…" Clone Himaru murmured slowly, his eyes fixed on the smartphone screen of his original body, displaying the profile pictures of the two girls. Compared to Midnight who was relatively 'easy' to lure, this time the challenge he faced increased drastically, jumping to a much more difficult level.
The success rate of 'fishing' these two girls was estimated to be much lower. Uraraka, with her innocence and high idealism, seemed like a reef fish that was difficult to trap with nets of sweet nothings and false flattery. Toga, with her 'yandere' side and hidden madness, was more like an electric eel that could shock the fisherman back with a deadly jolt.
"But it is precisely because it is difficult that it becomes interesting and challenging," Clone Himaru's sly grin slowly bloomed on his handsome face, his eyes gleaming with enthusiasm and burning ambition. He was not an ordinary fisherman who only sought anchovies or sardines. He was a Fishing King who was hunting legendary sea monsters, mythical creatures sought after by the greatest fishermen of all time!
The first question that arose in Clone Himaru's mind was: how to approach Uraraka Ochako? They had never met before, there was no interaction or personal connection that he could exploit. Information about Uraraka was also minimal, just snippets of data and vague memories from his original body's limited and irrelevant memory.
"Fortunately, I have Touma," Clone Himaru smiled gratefully at his original body's loyal subordinate who could always be relied on. From the beginning, the original Himaru had ordered Touma to collect information as detailed as possible about various important characters from 'this world' based on memories from a previous life.
The aim was to 'be prepared,' preparation for the worst possible scenario, but now it was Clone Himaru who reaped the rewards of his original body's hard work. Complete information about Uraraka Ochako's background, daily habits, home address, school, parents' workplace, favorite food, to the walking routes that the girl often took was clearly displayed on the smartphone screen.
"Good job, original body! This information is very useful!" Clone Himaru praised himself, even though the original body would never know or hear this praise. "I will make the most of this information, maximizing every detail available."
Armed with valuable information from Touma and some memory 'leaks' from the original body, Clone Himaru began to formulate a more mature and detailed plan. He recalled one key characteristic of Uraraka: her kindness and her tendency to always help others in need. In addition, there was one unique thought of Uraraka's that caught his attention, "When heroes are in trouble, who will save them?" This thought would become the main 'bait' in his love net this time, the key to opening the heart of the reef fish named Ochako.
Clone Himaru decided to execute his plan in Uraraka's hometown, the place where the girl was raised and spent most of her life. He took an early morning train, heading to a neighboring city with the main goal of 'fishing' for the reef fish named Ochako. So, he asked for leave from school.
Arriving in the destination city, Clone Himaru went straight to the street that Uraraka often passed, according to data from Touma. He waited patiently by the roadside, while adjusting his appearance to look 'weak' and 'pathetic,' a poor young man in need of help.
Not long after, the figure he had been waiting for finally appeared in the distance. Uraraka Ochako, in her typical school uniform that was slightly oversized and with cheerful footsteps, walked along the crowded sidewalk. Clone Himaru's heart beat a little faster, adrenaline pumping back into his blood rapidly. Here she was, the reef fish that would soon be trapped in his net, prey that would become his latest collection.
As Uraraka got closer, Clone Himaru began to act, executing the first phase of his cunning plan. He pretended to stagger, his steps faltering and unbalanced, his face paled, his breath made to sound heavy and panting. "Ugh… excuse me… sorry…" Clone Himaru groaned softly, as if holding back extraordinary pain. He deliberately walked with unsteady steps, swaying to the right and left, heading towards Uraraka who was walking in the opposite direction.
As he had predicted, Uraraka reacted quickly and nimbly, hooked by the bait he had provided. Her eyes widened perfectly round, filled with worry as she saw Clone Himaru's miserable condition. "Eh? Are you alright?" Uraraka exclaimed in panic, her footsteps stopping suddenly, concerned about the condition of the young man who looked in pain in front of her.
Clone Himaru slowed his steps further, pretending to lose his balance completely, his body teetering and almost falling to the ground. "Ugh… seems like… travel sickness… really bad…" he groaned again, this time in a more dramatic and heartbreaking tone, as if his pain was unbearable. He deliberately let his body lean forward slightly, as if he was about to faint and kiss the asphalt road.
And sure enough, Uraraka moved with a hero's reflex, her heroic instinct instantly called upon when she saw someone in need of help. With a quick and agile movement, she caught Clone Himaru's body that was almost falling, holding the young man's body weight with her soft hands.
Uraraka's hands supported Clone Himaru's shoulders firmly, preventing him from kissing the ground and worsening his condition. "Oh! Be careful!" Uraraka exclaimed in panic, looking at Clone Himaru's face with a sincere expression of worry and anxiety. "Are you really alright? Your face is so pale!"
'Bingo!' Clone Himaru cheered happily in his heart, celebrating the success of the first phase of his plan that went smoothly without a hitch. Uraraka Ochako, the angel-hearted girl, had been hooked by the 'weak person in need of help' bait he had cast. His love net began to tighten, ensnaring the prey he was after.
"Th-thank… you…" whispered Clone Himaru weakly, his face deliberately brought closer to Uraraka's face, creating an intimate and seductive distance. The sweet scent of Uraraka's shampoo and bath soap was faintly smelled by him, making Clone Himaru even more excited, his hunting passion burning even more fiercely.
Clone Himaru continued his cunning plan, moving on to the next phase. In a weak and pleading tone, he asked Uraraka to help him find the nearest park bench, a place where he could rest and recover his 'weak' condition. "C-could you… help me… to a park bench… nearby…" he pleaded in a soft and pitiful voice, touching Uraraka's compassionate side.
He took out his wallet from his pants pocket with trembling movements, offering the wallet to Uraraka as 'transport money' or 'pocket money.' "And… could you… buy me a drink… with this money… my throat is so dry…"
Uraraka, who was still filled with worry and pity, immediately agreed without the slightest hesitation. Her heroic instinct drove her to help the young man who seemed to be suffering in front of her. "Of course! Let me help you!" Quickly, Uraraka supported Clone Himaru towards the nearest park which happened to be not far from where they were, seating the young man carefully on a shady park bench under a large tree.
"Wait here for a moment, okay? I'll go buy a drink first!" Uraraka took the wallet offered by Clone Himaru with a friendly smile, hurrying towards a vending machine located not far from the park.
Clone Himaru smirked cynically as Uraraka ran away, leaving him alone on the park bench. 'Such a kind-hearted girl,' he thought again, in a condescending but also slightly impressed tone. 'Really the ideal type to be a wife… I mean, a loyal and reliable sailing partner.'
Uraraka returned quickly, carrying a can of cold drink and a bottle of mineral water. She gave the cold drink to Clone Himaru, and opened the mineral water bottle cap for him with a deft movement. "Drink this first, you must be very thirsty," Uraraka said in a caring tone, offering the drink to Clone Himaru.
Uraraka did not leave immediately after giving the drink, but remained standing in front of Clone Himaru, looking at him with a worried expression that had not completely disappeared from her face. "Do you feel better now?" she asked again, returning Himaru's wallet.
Clone Himaru, feeling his plan was going smoother and smoother, immediately moved on to the next stage. He sipped the drink Uraraka gave him, pretending to feel a little refreshed and energetic again. "So-somewhat… a little better," Clone Himaru replied in a weak but slightly brighter tone than before, showing a significant improvement in his condition thanks to Uraraka's help.
He extended his hand to take the wallet he had given to Uraraka earlier, and sincerely thanked her. "Thank you so much… you are truly my savior."
Uraraka reciprocated Clone Himaru's handshake with a sweet little smile as a response to his gratitude. "What matters is that you feel better." She smiled sincerely, a smile that somehow made Clone Himaru feel 'something' strange in his chest. Whether it was guilt for lying to such a kind girl, or… other feelings that were more complex and difficult to explain.
"Oh yes, I haven't introduced myself yet," said Clone Himaru, changing the topic of conversation to break the ice that might feel a little awkward. He extended his hand again to Uraraka, a friendly and polite gesture. "My name is Yūsha Himaru. Nice to meet you, my savior hero."
Uraraka accepted Clone Himaru's handshake, returning his smile wider and brighter. "I'm Uraraka Ochako. Nice to meet you too, Yūsha-san. But I'm not a savior hero, I just helped a little bit." Uraraka blushed slightly hearing Clone Himaru's praise that sounded sincere and full of admiration.
"No, to me you are still a hero," Clone Himaru countered in a convincing tone, looking intently into Uraraka's eyes. "You helped me when I was in trouble. That's more than enough to be called a hero. You must be a very kind person."
Uraraka blushed even more, but this time she began to feel comfortable and familiar with Clone Himaru. They began to chat intimately, discussing light topics such as the sunny weather, the beautiful park, and the cold drink that Uraraka had just bought. The atmosphere between them became more relaxed and warm, forging a familiarity that felt natural and pleasant.
After chatting for quite a while, Uraraka glanced at her watch, her eyes widening slightly in surprise. "Wow, it's getting late! I'm sorry, Yūsha-san, I think I have to go now." Uraraka prepared to say goodbye, but Clone Himaru did not let her go just like that. 'My love net is not perfect yet!' he thought quickly, his brain spinning to find a way to extend their time together.
"Uraraka-san," Clone Himaru called out before Uraraka really moved to leave, his voice slightly restrained. "As a thank you for your help, may I treat you to lunch? The restaurant nearby is said to be very delicious, I happened to see the reviews on the internet."
Initially, Uraraka politely refused Clone Himaru's offer, showing humility and not wanting to trouble him. "No need to go to the trouble, Yūsha-san. I'm happy to help you."
"It's no trouble at all, Uraraka-san," Clone Himaru replied in a pleading and hopeful tone, making Uraraka feel bad for refusing. "On the contrary, I would feel bad if I didn't reciprocate your kindness. Consider this as a thank you from someone who has just been saved by a hero."
Uraraka fell silent for a moment, weighing Clone Himaru's offer. She felt a little shy and awkward, but she saw Clone Himaru's pleading gaze that begged… for some reason, it made her heart melt a little, making it difficult to refuse his request. "Alright," Uraraka finally replied, nodding in agreement with a sweet little smile. "But don't make it too expensive, okay, Yūsha-san."
"Of course not!" exclaimed Clone Himaru cheerfully, rising from the park bench with fabricated enthusiasm. "I know just the right place, a simple restaurant but the food is five-star!"
They both walked together towards the restaurant recommended by Clone Himaru. The restaurant was not luxurious and magnificent, but it looked clean, comfortable, and had a warm atmosphere. As they waited for the food they ordered, Clone Himaru began a deeper conversation with Uraraka, "Uraraka-san," said Clone Himaru in a serious but still friendly tone, looking at Uraraka with a gaze full of interest. "Actually… I aspire to become a pro hero."
"Oh really?" Uraraka looked interested, her eyes sparkling hearing Clone Himaru's confession. "Wow, that's amazing! It must be so cool to be a hero!"
"But… there's one thing that confuses me and worries me a little," Clone Himaru continued, putting on a thoughtful and slightly hesitant face, as if pondering a rather tricky problem. "I often see heroes saving people from danger, protecting the community from villain threats. That's truly noble and admirable. But… when those heroes themselves are in trouble, who will save them?"
Uraraka's eyes widened hearing Clone Himaru's sudden and unexpected question. She was surprised and impressed by Clone Himaru's thinking which she thought was very deep and touching, because that question had also crossed her own mind, becoming a hidden doubt that she had kept secret all this time. "Eh? That's right…" Uraraka murmured softly, as if just realizing the truth of that question. "I've never thought about that before. But… yeah, if heroes are in danger, who will help them?"
Clone Himaru smiled contentedly seeing Uraraka's reaction which was in line with his expectations. 'The 'hero thought' bait worked! This reef fish is really perfectly hooked!'
"Well, that's what confuses and worries me," Clone Himaru said again, increasingly aggressively launching his 'attack,' digging deeper into the depths of Uraraka's heart. "I want to become a hero who is not only strong and great on the battlefield, but also… has my own 'savior.' Someone who will always be there to support and help me when I'm in trouble, to be a leaning post when I feel tired and down."
Uraraka fell silent, her face slightly blushed, her heart beating faster than usual. Clone Himaru's words sounded so deep, touching the most sensitive side of her soft and empathetic heart. Was this… fate? Meeting a man who had the same thoughts as her about the meaning of a hero? A meeting that felt coincidental but meaningful, as if it had been ordained by the heavens.
The atmosphere between them became more intimate, warm, and full of familiarity. They enjoyed eating while continuing to chat, finding many similarities in their views on life, interests, and things they liked. Time passed so quickly unnoticed, dissolving into a conversation that flowed fast and full of intimacy. When Uraraka was about to say goodbye and go home, Clone Himaru proactively asked for Uraraka's social media account, taking advantage of this moment of togetherness to further tighten his love net.
"Uraraka-san, if you don't mind, may I ask for your 'spontagram' account? Who knows, we can stay connected and… maybe we can have lunch together again sometime," Clone Himaru said with a charming smile that made Uraraka's heart flutter slightly, giving hope for their next meeting.
Uraraka, who was completely captivated by Clone Himaru's charm and thoughts that aligned with her idealism, agreed without the slightest hesitation. She felt comfortable and happy being near the young man, as if they had known each other for a long time. They exchanged 'spontagram' accounts and promised to 'follow' each other and keep in touch.
That night, Clone Himaru returned to his house by 'therm,' feeling joyful and victorious. He lay down on his narrow bed, opened his 'spontagram' account and saw a notification 'Uraraka Ochako has followed you.'
"This net casting mission… 90% successful!" Clone Himaru whispered contentedly, holding back his laughter from exploding too loudly. 'Only 10% left, which is to make sure this reef fish is completely trapped in my net, unable to escape. And for that… I have prepared the next plan. Hehehe…' A sly grin returned to adorn Clone Himaru's handsome face, his eyes radiating unlimited ambition. His journey to become the Fishing King had just begun, and the ocean of his dreams was getting closer and closer, waiting to be conquered.
